| What a wonderful article. I felt when I read it, that you were personally here with me. It is a bit cold outside at 33 degrees in NYC, but a hot cup of coffee or even tea would warm us up. The mug is very eye catching. Who would not like to have one or two of them on their table?. The words that you wrote are very heartwarming and encouraging. I would love to have you as my neighbor and would fill you up with cheesecakes, poundcakes and apple pies that I baked that is if you like sweets (Otherwise, I would find something that you like so that you could keep up your great writing spirit. Like vegetarian food, lasagna, stew or stuffed red snapper?). That is what my co-workers wait for when I come in on Mondays. We could sit and chat awhile. Add a few more of the DG community and the party is on. I am going to have to catch up with some of your other work. Take care of yourself.
Thanks,

| Hey, you're not just my DG neighbor and friend, you're a fellow "foodie!" Wouldn't it be fun to take turns hosting neighborhood luncheons? We used to do that often on my block, but a couple of gals moved away, another started working... still, when we do cross paths for coffee or TGIF refreshments, food always seems to be involved, LOL.
Thank you for your kind words, here and on other threads. I'm glad to know you! |

| Thank you and nice to know you also. Yes food is a great topic. I travel great distances for food. I will be going on a trip Saturday to a Lobster Fest in Charleston,RI. just to eat seafood and other goodies. A shopping trip is included in this package. Then Sunday I will bake a co-worker a bourbon brown sugar pound cake that I promised her. I think of the great recipes in the food forum and have about 30 plus willing food testers that never give me negative feedback. That is why I said I would bake you something. I am now working on finding recipes for those that can't eat sugar. See, it all goes good with coffee and conversation

| I can eat sugar! LOL I shouldn't, but I can. :-)
A lobster fest sounds lovely. And I hope you'll share that bourbon cake recipe over in the recipe forum... maybe we can start a thread for "spirited cakes," and I'll post the Jack Daniels apple cake that I like from the Cake Mix Doctor's book. |

| I do not have the skills as of yet to post the cake unless I type it out letter for letter. It is a GoodHousekeeping recipe called Kentucky Bourbon Brown-Sugar Pound Cake. I have baked it many times with good results. I won't be able to add it to the recipe forum until maybe a week or so. It is a good idea though . Talk to you soon. Going to work in the am.

| What a great and heart-warming article. Jill I could not have said that better myself and it is soooo true in every way. DG is truly a blessing to me also.
Thanks for a great article.

| Thank you, Cherie. *HUGS*
Ivy, we could probably google the recipe and then copy/paste it so you don't have to type it all out. I'll have to type out the apple cake recipe too, unless I find it online. I don't think there's a big rush, but thought it might be fun to share and gather other "spirited" recipes.
Hey, I found your recipe! It turns out Good Housekeeping has a website... and a recipe archive... :-)
http://www.goodhousekeeping.com/recipefinder/kentucky-bourbo...
I also found the recipe for the Cake Mix Doctor recipe I was talking about (bourbon apple spice cake)... but the baking instructions aren't included. It's made in a 9x13 inch pan, standard baking time/temp (probably 350'F for 35-45 minutes; will try to find my book to check).

| Wonderful article! I feel the very same way you do...and I wouldn't be suprised if I haven't met the most DG'ers of anyone here. I go out of my way to cultivate friendships on here and in my "real" community.

| HMMMM...Truffles are not my favorite...but I could be bribed with Nestle's Dark Chocolate Treasures with Caramel!!!
I am boycotting Hershey's since they moved part of their plants to Mexico...and cut off 3,000 people in PA...or plan to. I saw in the paper that Peppermint Patties will be made in Mexico...there goes some more of our American jobs. Jo |

| How can you like fudge and not truffles? LOL OK, dark chocolate and caramel for you then. I use what I think is better (and darker) chocolate than most Nestles or Hersheys... Ghiradelli, often; sometimes Trader Joe's. :-) |

| All that chocolate could go into a nice double chocolate fudge cake with yummy icing and chocolate slivers as decorations on top. Maybe 3-4 layers, The left over chocolate could then be used to dip strawberries fresh from the garden in it. Nothing would go to waste. Yes?. |

| Ironically, it was a a recipe that first brought me to Dave's Garden. My aunt makes stunning rolls, and when I asked for her recipe, she e-mailed it to me, along with the DG website. I love that there are so many food-lovers here!
Jill, I have to say that you were one of the first people to welcome me to DG, and mail me basil seeds, and yours were some of the first articles I read when I subscribed! You do so much to set the friendly tone here, and I always think of you when I think of DG!
To borrow from Alexander Pope, I think you hit on "what oft was thought but ne'er so well expressed. Thanks for summing up the feelings of so many of us so succcinctly!

| Hi, I kept mentioning the pound cake and it finally showed up today. Kentucky Bourbon Brown Sugar Pound Cake is under Holiday Goodies in the recipe forum. It seems that it was on a few different sites besides Good housekeeping. It must be good because different sites are claiming it as theirs. Try it.
How are you, your family and dear Eliot?. And what are we baking to celebrate Charlie's new home?. Give me an idea. Making believe we are neighbors and bringing treats to your home.
Sending love and hugs. |

| Oh, thanks, Ivy -- I'll look for that recipe.
We're doing fine... even went to PetSmart two days in a row to check out the kitties! (Today's adoption event was postponed to make room for the "photo with Santa" festivities... first time I've been bummed to see Santa, LOL.)
You've got a great idea about making something special to celebrate Charlie's happy ending/beginning. Hmm... I think it needs to be something sweet, and black-and-white. I'm not sure chocolate chip cookies are close enough (although I did post a great recipe for them here http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/561548/)... What if we dipped Oreos halfway into white chocolate?

| Yes that sounds great. I'll bring the chocolate cheesecake with white and dark chocolate drizzle on top. We will need coffee for the adults and hot chocolate for the non-coffee drinkers with whipped cream (hand made) of course.
My ASPCA is having a adoption on 3 year old + cats for the next two weeks. with up to two cats at the same time can be adopted. The tv showed so many needing homes. I can not adopt not even one. Torrie was given to me as a abused kitten and there are still behavior issues that I deal with every day. Since she does not like the human touch, I can brush her with no problem with a battery powered brush, but what would she do if I showed a kitty some affection. I can not walk past her without stopping and letting her pass first. What would happen to a innocent little one that needs a home. So instead of locking up the cat I only have one, but my wish list is two or maybe three.
When I was young 40+ years ago I said "my Prince will come" now we will say " your Kitty will come" and it will be just right. There will be another reason to celebrate the new arrival. Right?. |

| Ooh... cheesecake... something I love but don't even want to learn to make, because I'd eat it every week! Since you're doing the "fancy" dessert, I can take care of the hot cocoa (have some good dutched cocoa from Penzeys, with a splash of vanilla of course). I do have whipping cream, but I'll bring marshmallows too (not homemade, LOL... Martha Stewart I am not!).
Are you sure Torrie would have a problem with other cats? Maybe she just has people-contact issues. I'm sorry she had such a tough kittenhood, and I'm glad she found you. I don't know that a cat who chooses to be more aloof would be so jealous of another cat who wanted to be a lap-kitty. Just a thought... but then again, you may simply have your hands full with Torrie now. :-) |

| I signed up for other sites that have only food and recipes for such goodies as making your own marshmallows along with "how to" videos with loads of food tips as to what to look for when it comes out of the ground and what to do with it when you buy it. I would like to take some courses at the French Culinary Institute so that I can decorate cakes and make gum paste flowers etc. I get asked if I would make grooms and shower cakes and things along that line. I have not accepted those offers yet but all of my co-workers and friends love my baked goods and are on their second and third grandchildren now. Then I could bring a professional looking cake to the party. I still have a recipe that I typed out 50 years ago when I was 9 years old. I baked for my Mom's friends then.
As for Torrie, she hisses when she is startled or I may rub her too long then she will bite and draw blood. So since I am not home to supervise in the day time, no noooo kitty or cat yet. Retirement may bring a change of mind. |

| A cheesecake recipe similar to mine is on the Philadelphia brand creamcheese package. It is not difficult to make. It does taste better in my opinion than the ones that are not baked.
I can share the Kentucky Bourbon that I use for the poundcake. The eggnog will be an added addition to our party.
Welcome!.

Ivy, one of my best friends is a superb cake decorator... she may call herself an amateur, but she's done some lovely (and tasty) wedding cakes! I bought a can of gum paste mix... no idea how to work with it, but I thought I could experiment, LOL. My niece loves Play-Doh, so maybe she can help...
There is a theme week "in the works" for DG articles in February that I know you gals are gonna love! (And I think that's about all the hint I'm allowed to give, so quit poking me. LOL) |

| I will be waiting for it. I want to do the cake decorating so that I can surprise my DS and her hubby for her wedding anniversary. I need to make this cake by next Sept. so I guess that I have time to practice and make sample cakes. Will look for a few cake recipes for the anniversary cake.
I just saw some ginger cookies made with crystalized ginger that would go along with our sweets menu. I think a scoop of vanilla icecream would go well with our warmed cookies. I can just about feel my teeth saying Help!.
Goodnight, work tomorrow and there is no heat in the apartment right now. (22 degrees outside). Torrie is in bed already.

My DS and BIL will be so surprised when I present them with a lovely cake. I would make an excuse to bring it to New Jersey where they live.
