What annuals did you grow this year, that were new to you that now,you will plant every year?Every year I try some, new to me plants. Some are dissapointing and others are fabulous.I love plants that grow tall, then die and are gone. Not a huge fan of orange in the garden but planted mexican marigolds. They reached 5 and 6 feet tall.A very attractive plant. You know I collected the seeds and will plant again.Largest dissapointed this year nicotiana "only the lonely".Supposed to reach 4 feet tall.Mine got fatter and fatter. No height and never bloomed.I don't give up on a plant, just because it didn't do well one season.Location,location,location.Some plants that have done poorly for me in past seasons. Now I have great success with, just by planting them in a different spot the following season.Examples would be castor bean and four o'clocks.Sometimes you gotta throw in the towel.Tried lions ear,for 2 seasons.Started inside, early and planted out. They get really tall, start forming buds and the growing seasons ends.Just not a long enough growing season for me.Some annuals are worth the risk.I grow pineapple sage (tender perennial, annual for me)every year. Some years its great and some it isn't.It blooms at the end of the season. If we get an early frost, the party is over.I will still try every year with it, because, when you do get blooms, its awesome. What are some of your experiences? My place is under a foot of snow right now.I will still talk gardening 24/7 365.How about you?
