This Coral Bark has been in a pot for four years. I finally cleared a spot in a garden bed for it, but it must live on run-off. Didn't help when we were hit with mandatory water rationing immediately afterwards! Drought conditions make the plants go faster into dormancy, so dryness and a spell of cold weather made the tree think it was time to turn fall gold.
But then we got a weekend of heavy rains - our first and so far, only one - and the weather shot up to 80 degrees! So the poor Coral Bark must have thought it was spring again, and threw out a bunch of bright green new leaves. Right now the confused little tree is probably trying to figure out what it should do next, LOL!
