I burn a lot of the little unscented votive candles because they fit into my little holders and are much more inexpensive than the scented ones. Once I lite them, they generally completely melt in a short time and then burn for about 2 hours. Would it be possible to drip a drop or two of scent into the melted wax at that point to have a little scent from these? I would love to be able to have some scent from these. I generally burn several a night when I am at home. I coule even 'stir' a tiny bit if needed...

... also, any suggestions of where the best place to buy some scent.. I am just interested in plain vanilla I think...

Tammie I don't know, but if you d-mail Purpbutfly (Cindy) she could probably answer your question as she makes a lot of candles. Good luck.

Tammie
I know Michael's craft stores sell the scents/oils for candle making. Perhaps those would do the trick.

I don't know about fragrance oils, but Essential Oils are
highly flammable. I'd get some sound advice before
dripping any oil into a pool of burning wax. You don't
want to end up with a big whooosh of flame.

I'd be interested to know what you learn so
keep us posted.

The scents at Michaels are not worth it. I make soy candles and have bought those scents. You pay $2. 50 for a 1/2 ounce.

There are several websites where you can get all kinds of different vanilla scents. I have 3 that I use, French Vanilla, Vanilla Velvet (my fav) and Vanilla.

I use these to sites to order my supplies

If you are going to do this be sure the flame is completely out and the wick is not hot before putting a pure Fragrance Oil (or essential oil) near it. Unfortunately this probably means your wax will be hardening up...

Straight oils are flammable and so are their fumes. I woudn't do it on a bet.

I use one of the potpourri pots (electric and look like mini crock pots) or the candlewarmers (mini hot plate that warms/melts candles to release the scent without "wasting" the candle) with bits of tarts in them or you could even put chips of unscented candles in them and add in a few drops of FO. I buy extra votive glasses at Garden Ridge so I can change out the scents when I'm in the mood.
I also like these metal lightbulb rings that set atop lightbulbs in lamps, you fill with FO and when the bulb warms it releases the fragrance.

My favorite place to buy FO on the web is sweetcakes.com and I'm going to try Brambleberry soon. I've also purchased from saveonscents.com as well and most were good--a few of the designer cologne/perfume ones were off but basics were nice.

I did find some oil and use a candle warmer... as mentioned above.. use a white candle in it and whichever scent I want at the time in the melted oil.. it works out great!
