Geoff,
I enjoy your articles on Dave's.
I started collecting Cycads 2 years ago, and have over 85 species.

I have successfully moved B. armata from Gary Wood's garden in Fallbrook, CA.
It's been in a 72" box for 3 years now. Hopefully, someone soon will see the investment opportunity;)

I do hope tp plant some of my cycads in my front yard and side of my house. Kid from elementary and high schools always walk by and I would love for them to seem. Any way I can plant a Whitelockii and others in my yard and tie it down making it difficult to steal? Someday I may sell some of them but I want everyone to enjoy them till then.

Some people microchip their cycads... doesn't help keep them from being stolen, but if very large and expensive, a new plant like that will be suspicious to other cycad collectors and they will wonder where it came from... and might suggest to others to have it scanned. A very large cycad of that species would be hard to steal, too, as it would weigh an awful lot. A small one would be impossible to keep from stealing, but would less like to be stolen as few would appreciate its worth. Still not any easy way to tie it down. Some have bored itty bitty holes through their plants and strung a very strong wire through them, but that could be cut by someone with equipment. This question has come up a number of times and not sure what the best answer is.
