That looks great. It's amazing what you can do with an old piece of furniture. I did something similar to an old piece. The kitchen in our 100 yr. old house is large 13' x 13', but lacking in counterspace. For many years I had a table in the middle and used it to supplement counterspace, but it was the wrong height for working and my back would start to hurt from leaning over. My SIL gave me her old Hoosier cabinet that she had no use for in her new, modern condo. It's the perfect height for working and had this great porcelain-finished, metal top. Since I was going to put it in the middle of the room, I had to do something to make the back of the cabinet look decent. I painted it and put the chicken picture and black wooden corner pieces on it. It's been a lifesaver for me. I keep all my kitchen utensils, pots and pans in it. I can put hot dishes on it straight from the oven with no worry of hurting the top. It's not the most beautiful piece of furniture and I may paint the whole thing some day, but it looks okay in my ancient kitchen.
That is awesome and very creative, I just sold a butcher block that had been in the family for a while but had wear and tear, we had it outside at one time, so tiled it with mexican tile, but I like my singer sewing base island better and I had plenty of room for it.
It's funny you should mention a Singer sewing machine base for an island. Went to a meeting last night and this couple invited us over after. Sure enough, she had a old sewing machine base for a kitchen island. Her kitchen was small and it made a nice, useful island for her. What a coincidence!
Here is another pic with a remade tray someone gave me. It had beadboard like my kitchen, but I wanted it protected when I use it, so I found $1.49 placemat at Ross and had hubby cut to fit. Then I repainted it my bead board color and staged it with this cute tea pot and cups a neighbor gave me who is moving. Amazing how it all looks, and the Irises are from my garden.
I want to make one out of cedar for outside, but i want it to look just like a harvest table some people refer to these also as farm tables or tavern type tables. Thanks for any help..
