Can you tell me which, if any, of these are truly annuals and will drop down dead no matter what at the end of the season? My Cosmos, Zinnias, and Sunflowers have all been killed back by frost, but I've got others on this list that are still living in the garden or in pots. I never questioned keeping something before if it was classified as an annual, but times changes and finances are such now that I may not be able to buy the same next year (if I wasn't able to save seed). If I can save something by covering it or carrying it back and forth to the greenhouse and just keep it for next year, I'll do that, but I've got a horrible fear that I'll do all of the work and then have the plant say "Oops, it's time to go!" and turn black.
I understand that in Florida some of these plants are summer annuals and some are winter annuals. The same situation would apply for the winter flowers (Calendula), except they'd have to go in the house come really hot weather. Thanks.
