Love your tradition! My mother used to buy (or save) lovely biscuit tins to use at Christmas for her wonderful cookies. Imagine the recipient's surprise when they reached the bottom of the tin and found a hand-written note that said, "Return this tin for a refill". She always got her tins back!
Oh Toni, that's great! What a chuckle she must have had. Last year I supplied a sheet of paper with the cookie pictures and names of cookies on them with the plates. The guys at my husbands work sent back the list with items circled and a "more please" written on the sheet.
A cookie exchange is where you invite people to your house. Each brings a set amount of cookies for the other attendees, along with paper copies of the recipe. The idea is to learn something new, exchange recipes, etc. I this case, there were 6 participants, each bringing 3 dozen cookies (1/2 doz for each person). The date ball recipe was a family favorite of someone else and now it is one of OUR family favorites!!!
