Today I hung a chandelier by replacing an existing one. It does not turn on. The wires from ceiling outlet seem to work when checked with voltmeter. But when I connect wires from chandelier to these wires, it does not show any activity. Do chandeliers have fuese? What could make the wires not show activity? I am baffled (and quite frustrated that the chandelier does not work).
Thanks for your help.

Since you have a voltmeter, set it for checking resistance (in ohms, with the power OFF, and disconnected from the house wiring) and see if the light works, and check the bulbs, too. Maybe there's a switch on it that you haven't found ?

Thanks, Claypa. I will check that.

What I found from further playing is that,
1) the wires from ceiling are live
2) when connected to chandelier (without any bulbs) the wires are still live
3) as soon as I put buld into the chandelier, the wires are not live.

What am I missing here?

Thanks

By the way I also foung out that there is no fuse in the chandelier.

Have you tested the bulbs?

I connected the chandelier to another outlet (there are wires everywhere!) and it worked. So the issue seems to be with the circuit for the outlet or may be the switch.
Thanks

I'm bet you're over lamping it. It might be a good idea to call in an electrician. :)
