I had made a cat. purchase of Iris germanica this past spring. What a thrill when the flower stems started growing in Oct. I had fragrant and beautiful flowers in November...certainly not a normal sight...
Hi cynthiausa, I live in northeast Florida and do a cornmaze in the fall. I had no idea irises bloomed in Oct. and Nov. What is the name of them and where can I get some?
The reblooming iris I bought are a German iris mix...several colors come in the collection...Iris germanica...I bought them from Spring Hill Nursery. They were supposed to bloom multiple times during the season from mid spring until frost...this was the first year for them in my yard and they only bloomed in the late fall...hope this helps...
I too have just discovered reblooming iris. Here in northern Illinois some seem to try to bloom just too late and get killed by a hard freeze before they are developed enough to cut and flower inside. My first one was Imortality a snow white that is a good bloomer here. This year Cantina sent up a wonderful stalk that just bloomed on and on. I wish I had had the brains to count the buds. One thing I think the flowers last a bit longer in the cooler weather. I also discovered that squash bugs like iris flowers. I have read that they seem to flower more freely when the clump get larger. Another favorite is Baby Blessed. It is a dwarf yellow that only gets about 8" tall.
