Sad but so true.

I adopted your dog today
The one you left at the pound
The one you had for seven years
and no longer wanted around.
I adopted your dog today
Do you know he's lost weight?
Do you know he's scared and depressed
and has lost all faith?
I adopted your dog today.
he had fleas and a cold,
but don't worry none.
You've unburdened your load.
I adopted your dog today.
Were you having a baby or moving away?
Did you suddenly develop allergies or was
there no reason he couldn't stay?
I adopted your dog today.
he doesn't play or eat much
He's very depressed, but
he will learn again to trust.
I adopted your dog today.
And here he will stay.
He's found his forever home
and a warm bed on which to lay.
I adopted your dog today.
And I will give him all that he could need.
Patience, love, security, and understanding.
Hopefully he will forget your selfish deed.

Could easily be my Roxy, dropped off at age six because they were expecting a baby.

And you know what- while I hate, hate, hate that she had to sit in that miserable shelter for four months, I am grateful as heck that I found her there because she is an awesome dog!!!
I really couldn't have asked for any better, so their loss is my and her gain.

My first dog when I moved out on my own was a dachshund the vet est to be 5 years. She was a drop off in my neighborhood. I took her in when the owners could not be located. They moved and phone was disconnected.
She had hookworms, tapeworm, was heartworm postive and pregnant. The vet said she was too old to treat for heartworm and probably would not survive delivery. Well she had 2 healthy heartworm free pups and died of cancer at 15 yrs of age. I have had several dogs over the years and yet she was still my all time favorite. She gave me 10 years of unconditional love and happiness. I will always be grateful to her former owners for dumping her.
