| I feel like such a dork. This is probably as obvious as the nose on my face but I guess I'm looking cross-eyed today. I have never put together a scrap book, in fact I haven't even used a photo album in 20 years. My pictures are all crammed into a giant tote (and I swear after this project I'm going to organize every last one of them!)
I'm putting together a Christmas gift of a memory album for my best friend. I spent a week sorting through that giant tote finding all the pictures of she and I in our Most Excellent Adventures and now that I'm ready to lay them out I'm puzzled about how the actual album works. The last time I put a photo in an album it was one of those static cling jobbies, and I have no idea how these new-fangled books work.
OK here's the embarrassing part: What's up with the tissue paper glued to the fronts of the pages? My guess is that it's supposed to act as a buffer to protect the photos, but it's such a big hindrance while working on the page that I'm wondering if it's supposed to be removed. Or is it supposed to be attached to the backs of the pages and my album was put together cock-eyed? Before I go any further maybe I should ask if you even know what I'm talking about. I'm guessing this tissue paper is standard on the newer scrapbooks and you pros can tell me how it works...
and the sooner the better. I'm running out of time. Thanks for ANY help. |

| ok lala, I can't tell if on the last picture that the tissue looks plastic
unless thats the way the light is shining on it...
Are the black pages what your going to adhere your pictures to??or
was there only one black page?
do you remember what your album was called?
did it come with page protectors "clear plastic sleeves" to fit
over the pages? |

| Ok, I'll give you my "theory" as I'm not a professional scrapbooker...however I am a professional photographer and I do have experience with professional photo albums. This is just my theory. Most scrapbooks I've seen offer some type of plastic protector to cover each page - just as you said for protection. Professional photo albums come with a rice paper "sheet" at the beginning and ending of the album. It is just another page and is not on each page - have never seen this with scrapbooks though. I'm guessing they don't have plastic protectors for the brand you have and instead have inserted these to add protection to each page. When you open and close an album enough - and some people include memorabilia - it can damage the photos. My conclusion would be the pages are meant to stay there as a page cover. If that brand does not offer some other type of cover, I might leave them in...depending on how it looks when done. If you album is meant to be casual and it bugs you, take them out. By the way, that is the best gift ever! Hugs! HTH |

| La_La, consider them buffers. It appears from the pictures that you are supposed to take apart the front and back covers to assemble your memory photo album. In the old days Photo paper was prone to fading. The Tissue like paper is probably an acid free (archive type) paper that helps protect the photos from fading. The black paper is used for "mounting" the photos. If the tissue like paper still offends you, remove them with a craft knife or razor.
What a sweet and touching tribute to your friend! : )
Hope this is helpful!

| ok I just took another look at the pictures "duh"
You will not need the tissue, thats in there to protect your pictures if your not
going to use page protectors
page protectors are clear plastic sleeves that the page fits into after your done
putting your photo's in on each side. Do you have a local scrapbook store nearby?
I would go there and take your book with you and have them show you just how to
put the sleeves on, they usually have all the sleeves ect at the store to buy and
they can show you exactly how to do it.
I hope this helps...:o)

| I bought the album last year at Hobby Lobby. Actually I bought 4 of them because they were marked down from $30 to $6.
Every black page (they're a thick material, kind of a cross between card stock and matte board) has one of those white "tissue paper protectors" glued to it at the left under the binder.
You're right though...they do have a waxy texture. They are flimsy like tissue paper, but the surface feels rather like wax paper. There are no clear plastic sleeves, only what you see in the photos. That's why I wondered if those tissue pages were meant to be the protection.
What the heck am I supposed to do with them? LOL. |

| Thank you, thank you, thank you all! I am so anal about this kind of thing, and the look of the paper DOES bother me. But I don't want the pictures damaged either. Perhaps if I can manage to work around it I'll leave them in and let Cheryl make the call on whether or not to remove them. |

| detheo, I'm 50 miles from Hobby Lobby and really from any town large enough to have a store with crafting supplies. I'm afraid that given my time limit I'm going to have to work with what I've got.
You guys have been a big help, in re-assuring me if nothing else. Thanks again! |

| Yea! You know I was the one who made the "enjoyed turning 30 because I felt people finally took me serious" comment. You even said I remind you of you! Can't deny it. I bet our baby pictures look similar. :-) I also like to play. A gentlman asked me the other day what was on my wish list...jewelry...etc. I said, nope I'd love dirt over diamonds any day. Just saw a neighbor getting dirt delivered today - I am SO jealous! I would love some good stinky black dirt. Ha ha!

| La_La:
Try folding and paperclipping the tissue page back and under the black page while you are working on them. It should keep them out of your way, and prevent them from tearing or ripping, or you from ripping out your hair.
: )
You'll do fine, and you aren't anal (at least not any more than any one else, just frustrated and flustered)! Hope this helps out!
Chele Dmail me about my Christmas wish list! LOL!

| I had to pop back and tell you what a HUGE success the book was and to thank you all again for your input. I was totally shocked when I took a mental tally of the time I had invested in it (close to 80 hours) but it was soooo worth it.
SW I didn't think to take a picture, but my family has all requested that my GF return with the book for their perusal so I'll grab a snap or 2 then.
Hope you all had a great Christmas! |
