When I settled on a color scheme for this particular area, I didn't realize what a challenge it would be. A big part of the bed gets good sun, and its no problem coming up with plenty of sun lovers in those colors, but most of the area is dappled shade under a pear tree. Its kind of dry there, so my idea of using orange impatiens may not work, and there's still yellow to come up with. I've been adding gold leafed Hostas for some bright color, and already have a good spring show started with lots of daffodils, crocus, tulips, and the forsythia that serves as a backdrop. I'm using white through the area too.
This year I found Nasturtiums to do much better in shade than I expected, so I'll be using a lot more of them in '09.
So, what orange or yellow annuals have you had success with in shade? I'm looking for tall, medium, short, bushy, vining, or whatever, lol.
Thanks,
Neal
