Ditto!!! LOL

Hey Jules... I need this Yellow one above, and this Red one...Lemme know what , when , where and how much...LOL

I have been plotting some gardens for this spring...I told Cookie that I see a perfect spot for a Grape arbor down by the pond that will be perfect for my swing...There is a space between the house and garage that is gonna get used real quick, and Cookie had Bro spray off some grass killer by the pond last year that I am going to get tilled up and I have plans for that too... LOL I gotta see what she left here plantwise... Kinda hard to tell at the moment since everything has already gone dormant...I think I've been raided!! LOL
I have some Wisteria coming from a very special friend that will go on the arbor this summer when I get it built...I am not into grapes yet.. Maybe just one, and I know where to get some that I would use if I did grow them...But the Doves love to build nests in an arbor like I am planning, similar to Marcy & Daves swing arbor...

Cookie left 2 pieces to an old fountain that I have appropriated, and will use them to add to my lions head fountain...Ohhhh yessss plans for that Puppys new home... LOL Lot's of plans for the front porch, and the back patio...It is bright and sunny here today, so it seemed like a good day to plot out the Spring and Summer gardens etc... LOL

I hope you all are having a Wonderful Christmas day !!!

LOL Kimberley... Yep it is... At least we don't have to shovel it or wade through it... LOL
I forgot to answer you the other night...Usually when I go to Columbus, I am either picking up or dropping off...I don't often get the wait and return patients because she prefers to keep me running as I hate sitting around, and I don't dilly dally, so I move more people quicker than most of the others...But the next time I know I have a wait, I will let you know...I am usually either at Riverside Hosp, or OSU when I get those...I had one for Tuesday, but she cancelled her appt...

Beautiful and right near freezing here.
72 by Saturday?

Well it was a wild ride up to Dayton yesterday afternoon.
55F or so down here and raining hard when we left.
Dropping FAST as we made the drive.
The winds were terrible. I finally stopped and gassed up the Escort just to add more weight.
Brrrrrrr! down to about 45F already.
About 9 PM I went out to start loading the car.
Two trips went fine... the third trip I slid across the road on the newly forming ice.
We left shortly after...
most of the rain had been evaporated by the wind but there were still a few patches of ice.
By the time we were halfway home it was 36F so we were out of the woods.
It got down to 24F here overnight.
It was 18F up there.
Sadly since Tuesday afternoon at least 3 people have been killed (including a local police chief) from the many icy accidents...

Yeah on the sunshine here, too! 38* and no wind...life is good! :-)

Garden planning underway here, too. The new 110' x 40' market garden is all planned out on graph paper with all kinds of details about what to plant where and with what to deter the bad bugs. As is the old garden, which is prepped and ready for spring planting of cool crops. I've got my list done of what I'm planting and supplies I need, so will be able to start shopping for seeds and transplants as soon as they hit the store shelves.

Looks like we're going to Texarkanna, Tx. after the first of the year. Should be able to get a lot of my seeds and transplants early and growing well in the greenhouse before they get planted in the garden. If all goes as planned (knock on wood) I'll be back home around the first of April and DH sometime in May.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Merry Christmas everyone! We just got back from sis's place - had a great and quiet time, lots of smiles and laughter, and both her kids said they thought this was the best Christmas they'd had :) I thought of y'all yesterday when we left as I ran out of time to get online and wish you a warm and happy Christmas - and thought of y'all again today driving home as the weather was beautiful and the traffic was so thin I was able to peek at people's yard while driving :-) I hope each and every one of you has had a wonderful Christmas, and that it continues into and throughout the New Year.

We went to DH's cousin's house for Christmas dinner, everything was good, and I didn't over eat. She had a to die for dessert, oreo pie, I had 2 bites, off DH's plate, aren't you proud of me?

Anyway, DH is heading out to stand in the Nativity scene, just got the call, someone called in sick. So he will get his shift tonight instead of the one that was cancelled on Tuesday night.

I am officially hammed out. We had it at my MIL's last night, then leftovers cold for lunch today, then more hot ham and all the fixins at my mom's this evening. Like I told someone, we've had so much sodium the last two days, we're retaining water to the point we can probably just kinda roll from room to room. LOL

Post #5928755

Good morning all!
Fell asleep at 7pm and just now woke up. I think the holidays have caught up to me. Christmas went great. Kids loved their presents. I got all new cook/bake ware(think they are hinting) Some really nice pieces. I can now get rid of most of my old stuff. I also got a really cool iron cross and rooster clock from oldest son. I collect both. So all and all a good Christmas. I have been putting together a collection of occupied japan figurines for Jeff for about 6 months now and he was really pleased. I also got him some starter pieces of Moriage dragonware.

This was the easiest Christmas on the pocket book ever. We started buying when we found things on sale about 6 months ago, so we were able to get good stuff and not pay a fortune. One of the sweetest gifts our little girl got was from a friend who helped with "girl" things when she lived with us. She bought Anna her first set of real pearls. Anna just kept looking at them and would look up and say "these are so pretty. I'm going to wear them to my prom" My friend Ria has been a jewel helping us with raising Anna.

One other thing I was happy about was It appears my relationship with the middle son may be on the mend. We talked a lot and he said he loved me many times over the holiday. I even got kissed each night before they went to bed. Of course I had to stand on my tip toes to reach them, but it felt good. That is one thing this family has always done we give "hug, kisses and I love you" every time we go to bed or part. You would think a 17, 16 and 13 year old would get over doing it, but we always get it and I hope it always stays that way.
Well goodnight my little ORV family.
George
Look what I woke up to today. This is an old fashion amaryllis Neal has had for as long as I have known him. When I got sick I passed it to my farm friends and when we moved here got a bulb or 2 back.

Hi, George, and all the ORVers, too, of course,

What a nice Christmas day you had with your family! Sounds like a wonderful way to end the day with hugs and a kiss from your teen agers. You are lucky to have such warmth and love to share in your home.

I can't sleep either (after a lovely Christmas with our kids and my sister's family here at our home) and just spent a little time catching up on the ORV threads. I can't keep up with all the 'goings ons' here, but often think of all of you.

And of course, I wish everyone here lots of happiness and good health in the new year!

Good morning after!! Sprinkling rain here, and the temps are supposed to be in the 60s later on. No wonder everybody in this region suffers colds and sinus stuff.

Will be straightening the house, and putting away gifts and starting to dismantle the Christmas decorations. Don't plan any company between now and New Year's Eve, so I am ready to get back to normal, or as close to normal as possible.

DGD will be returning sometime today to stay all next week, until schools reopen in January. So will still be cooking extra, but it will be a different kind of food, I am ready for some northern beans and cornbread, or a pot of bean soup. Yum.

Merry Happy Day After!!! Or somethin' like that!!!
It was a Merry Christmas here too! Our daughter called from Florida. She was going to the beach with an old friend ..who was taking her out to dinner. (She just broke off a long time relationship...and is very sad). I'm glad she had someone to be with yesterday.
Mike came...Jim, Jeannine, and Ashley and Dawson. We all ate too much...except the kids...they were more interested in toys!
But it was a lovely day...and everyone was nice to each other too! I was pooped by the time they all left...so sat and read my book by the fire until I couldn't hold my eyes open any longer.
Bonnie...come put my decorations away too...will you????? The kids put them up...but they sure don't come to put them away...lol!!
I am ready to get the house back to normal too now...and ready for ham and beans too!!! Got a nice meaty ham bone left to cook with some good beans!!
Well...Dave has to work today...and I am off to...where else????? WALLY WORLD.! Gotta find some saurkraut and beans!!
Enjoy the warm temps coming all!!!

Just popped in for a second to see what everyone is up to.

Joyce - I took the liberty to lighten up your grandchildren - hope you don't mind! They were so dark, I couldn't see them well... thought I would repost the pic. I could do better with the original photo and more time, but need to get out and get some things done today that I have been putting off. Thankfully, they don't involved going near a mall or shopping place!

Everyone have a good day!

I made some split pea soup with the ham bone from our work Christmas. Probably the best I've ever made. Even Bill ate two bowls and he usually won't even eat one. He says the name split pea soup sound icky. Anyway, that's what I'm looking forward to for lunch.

We didn't do our exchange with friends last night, so we'll be going there later in the day (around suppertime) for pizza.

Bertie and I are going in search of the perfect (slimming) jeans in a little while. Then I will take Dusty to get her check. So I will try not to get in any trouble. Bertie and I are going to take the Sebring, so wish us luck. Bill thinks it is fixed, but hasn't let me drive it really far until we see how it acts. So today will be a test. I sure don't want to get stuck on 75 with it in rush hour morning traffic!

I got DS, Mark a coffee grinder for part of his Christmas gift. He had asked for it so when he came yesterday he brought beans from Boston Stoker (Kimberly you will like this story) so he brings these beans from Bali that are aged 5 years (I didn't know you were supposed to age coffee beans) and he says they're white before they roast them. That was probably the best cuppa joe I've ever had. He said that Boston Stoker buys the entire crop (they only have one a year) and it is not that big a crop. He is a "new" coffee drinker and he is a real snob about what he drinks. In this case...I'm GLAD!!!

Okay, rambling now...sorry...hope you all are feeling good!

Evening folks, it has been a busy day here. Didn't even get to touch the house, the decorations nor put away gifts. I remembered that I hadn't made the church deposit for last week, so made a trip to the bank, and then stopped by the grocery to get some eggs, and naturally other things went into the basket too. Got home, and made a pot of chili, and just as I was turning it off, DGD called, and she was ready for me to come pick her up, so off to Frankfort, and then back home. By then it was 2:00, and neither of us had eaten, so a bowl of chili, and I sat down to "rest just a minute" and at 4:00, DH came in and asked about supper, interrupted my nap. So tonight we had breakfast at suppertime.

Looks like everybody had a good Christmas, and I know Joyce's brisket was good by the pic she posted of the empty pan

The stores were wild today, DGD called and said she and her sister was at Walmart, and I could just pick her up there. I parked right in front of the door for about 5 minutes, and I have never seen the like of foot traffic coming out, and people going in. No way was I braving that crowd.

Off to check my email, and catch up on some other forums.

Bertie and I did our thang yesterday. Went to Wallyworld first and I came away with 2 pair of jeans (one Rider, one Levi's) and some 50% off candy...Bertie wasn't quite as lucky..

Then off to the mall for a watch battery for Bertie and dang if the DSW shoestore didn't nab me right off the walkway and pull me in! I bought the most comfortable pair of everyday shoes by naturalizer. Sooo comfy. Had a stop at the Hallmark store and got a couple boxes of Christmas cards at half off. (I didn't even get my cards out this year, but next year that WILL NOT happen!!) Then off to Half Price Books..Bertie had never been, I think she'll be going back. She has lots of books to get rid of so that will be a good place to start.

After that Sam's Club for some fizzy water and some bargains, then home. Popped a cheesecake in the oven and took Dusty for some errands. Then off to friends house for our Christmas celebration with them. All in all a very fun day.

Can't believe that it will be 70* today!! This is December 27th in the Miami Valley, isn't it??????

Well, enjoy yourselves. I think I'll do a little garden cleanup since the weather will be toasty outside!

Yes, Joice and I had a fun day untill on the way home. I won't go into details but we made it home. Went to friends house up at Bevercreek last night and played hand & foot split the games. Took my Maggie but she wasn't a happy camper. She whinned the whole time we were there. I think she had a feeling they don't care for dogs. Or at least Jim doesn't. They are smart creatures they know who are their friends. Going to get outside also and cut my roses down some as they are over 5 feet tall. Enjoy the warm weather for tomorrow might be different.

Golly, it does smell like spring out there! I've got windows open for the house to air out- feels so nice! Took advantage of the mild weather to get some garden tools put away and got my overflowing compost pails emptied in the pile and rinsed out.

I prepared a country ham for the holiday, and did the final glazing step Christmas morning and made biscuits so we could have it for breakfast. It turned out really good! Today I sliced the rest of the tender inside meat for sandwiches and have all the bones and leathery parts cooking with beans :-) I've got baby limas, white beans, and split peas cooking away in separate pots. Now I can enjoy the ham flavor without feeling so guilty about all the sodium and fat- after gorging on rich food for so many days I'm ready for some fiber, LOL.

Good Morning!

I see we all survived Christmas. Yay! I am so glad it's over. I need your help though. Over Christmas my friends here in Cleveland decided they would make it their business for me to not be alone so I ended up having dinner Christmas Eve, breakfast, lunch, and dinner Christmas Day at their homes. Because of all their kindness, I am having 18 people over for New Years dinner. I need help with a menu that won't kill me. LOL.

This is what I have in mind:

Buffet style. Black-eyed peas and rice, Collards from the garden, Fried chicken, hot water corn bread muffins or hushpuppies, cookie tray and maybe a couple cakes.

How's that sound? too much or too little?

I took Neal's comments above to heart and opened some windows... sure feels nice!! Then I got out in the garden to dig up dandelion roots but it's far too muddy and I gave up after doing about 3 feet of just one bed. There's standing water at the far end of my newest no-till beds so I guess I'll need to dig a trench to the creek for drainage. The beds themselves are raised about 5" and the shallot and garlic bulbs are at the high end, so hopefully nothing will rot.

A long tradition among my circle of friends in Atlanta was a late January "Soup Day"... same folks we partied and over-ate with during all the holiday parties. One fellow always hosted it and made gallons of soup in huge pots, and we'd all bring crusty breads. An all-day affair... eat whenever you got there. It was always a welcome gathering after the rich holiday foods! Wish I had friends here to do the same thing...

I'm glad that Christmas is over too. My sister totally ruined it... no gifts (except what I bought for them and hers is still unopened), no tree, no Christmas Dinner... At one point The Kid and I were considering a call to the cops to involuntarily commit her (to dry-out). It has been a very tense 2-1/2 weeks since she promised to quit drinking, and it ain't over yet. (Nor has she quit... she can hide the booze but not her behavior.) I was glad I had the opportunity to spend some of the last 2-3 days with Sunny and Joseph! BTW, they had never eaten trout and thoroughly enjoyed the rainbows I took over with me. We (I) broiled them with sliced lemon, freshly ground pepper and a sprig of fresh rosemary in the cavity, dotted with butter outside. Yummy! The Rose Finn Apple fingerling potatoes I grew were good, too. That's the first of my small crop I've eaten, and I will definitely grow some again.

Ric, great buys on the doors and corner cabinet. That room is coming along nicely... :)

Well, I hear a nap calling my name... must be all that fresh air!

I was Kidnapped!!!! By a Cookie no less!!! and she took me to a MALLL!!!!! GACK!!! I thought I was gonna die before I got out of there!!!

Went to the fish store and I got a new female Swordtail for my lonely male, and some reef food for the salt tank...Went to Lowes and got the clear silicone to repair the terrarium lid, and a few tiny succulents to plant in there, some bird seed and some tintable tiny linen shades for my dining room light fixture...I priced out some post and rail fencing for the yard, and the rails are 11 feet long, so will come out cheaper in the long run for me to do ...I think I will rent an auger to do the post holes when the time comes to do it...

Tomorrow I need to change the filters in the Fluvall pump in the salt tank...They have been working overtime cleaning the sediment from the water when I stir it up...All my water tests are still right on the money, so I'm jazzed about that...

It is starting to get really cloudy to the east of us, and looks like rain may be coming...It was so beautiful here today, and Cookie and I were in our shirtsleeves with no jackets...Really strange weather for 2 days after Christmas in Ohio...LOL

Toni...Ya need a small ham...and Sweet tater pie!!!!! and I want your Mommas recipe for that... Looks like I'm gonna have to make my own...

Traditional NC Tarheel New Years dinner is ham left from Christmas, (We always made a couple Whole Hams that were cured from the previous winters slaughter) Blackeyed peas for luck, and Collards or a mix of Greens...I like Collards, Kale and Beet greens...Turnip greens make it good too if ya add some diced turnips to the pot...Split a slab of Salt pork between the beans and the greens... LOL...I also make Rutabaga and white potato cubes, boiled together in equal parts with salt and pepper till they start to thicken and add butter at the end...Start the rutabaga 10 minutes before you add the taters...You can cook everything cept the cornbread ahead of time and reheat when ready, and slap it all on one end of the table with plates and silverware and nappie on the other end and serve it Buffet style...You ain't got no Butler or maid, so don't be killin yerself...Cover the meat with foil and put it on 200* in the oven a couple hours before serving, and heat the rest in the nuker or baking dishes in the oven...That way you arent tied to the kitchen, and can enjoy yer company...And once you get that mess cleaned up, gas up the Hoopdy, and head south...You gonna need a vacation, and Cookie and I have just the place for you and Oprah...LOL

We played w/ the cabinet layout for 4 hours this afternoon.
(AND we didn't kill each other! LOL!)
Every layout was close but had some flaw we couldn't live w/...
Finally we just walked away...
Then as I walked thru to let Wu out a few minutes ago the perfect layout hit me.
A could see it in my head.
Called Robyn in and explained it to her in about 30 seconds... and we HAVE a winner.
Tomorrow we'll rearrange and start measuring for the cabs we have to get or build.

We had the windows open all day here.
Smells like a spring cleaning in here now!
Rain will be moving in here around 1 AM they say.
Temps will be dropping thru to freezing by Monday morning.

Gorgeous here today!
I did dog detail, raked the paths and rescattered the mulch in the sideyard.
Then raked up a ton'o leaves from the street and heaviky mulched the front beds.
We didn't take up the Canna so I 'may' be needing some tubers come Spring.
We'll see.

George go poke around in the Petasites... our buds are up already.
And the Helleborus are starting to look a little antsy... WAY too early for them!

Hello folks. I got the house dedecorated, and things put away, did some paperwork, and paid some bills, cooked a bit for tomorrow's dinner, and then we went out to eat chinese. Went to Walmart, and I got some Christmas cards, gift wrap and some gift bags. DGD wanted to look at the Nintento DS cartridges, but didn't find anything she wanted. I may have to go back to Walmart, when I have more time, as they seemed to have a lot of christmas stuff.

When we left town at 7:30 it was 66 degrees, and the wind is realing howling right now. I threw open the doors when I got home, as the house felt really stuffy, so the indoor temps are better right now.

DH is staying with his DM tonight, and DGD is off visiting a friend, so I have been sitting and reading a book I started this afternoon, and am just about finished with it. It will be history by mid afternoon tomorrow.

It's called deal with it Charlie...Tomorrow is filter day and move the last few rocks...so you gonna really get torqued...again..sigh...sorry but its gotta be done...

I made beef stroganoff for supper, with a boiled peel and eat shrimp appetizer...I think Jim is stuffed...Creator knows I hope he is...I can come in here with a plastic bag of cat food and he is all over it...I am having just the shrimp...I DOO miss my sojourns to the boats on a Friday to get my weeks supply of monster shrimp, just for helping to unload the boats...I got bait for my fishing over the weekend, and food for the week...The boys were grateful for the help, and I was grateful for the food and the bait to catch red fish or drums or small sharks...or Snook in season...

Hmmmmm.. dun et and am now starving...LOL

Good Morning all.

We had two things to do today, needed to help son get something at IKEA and then dinner with my brother and SIL who are up from Florida. They were traveling over from Indiana for the day and then they will head back south after the 1st. Got a message from son that they are canceling on the IKEA trip and Dad just called and my brother has a TERRIBLE cold and doesn't want to bring it to us. (Thank you very much). So now I have to find some kind of trouble to get in here! :-)

Dusty is making me hungry...

Bonnie is making me want to get my book

Rick is making me want to get into some rearranging stuff

Think I might start to put Christmas decorations away. Not sure how many will show up for New Years Day but it will be better if the tree is down before then no matter how many come.

It was a lovely day to be running around yesterday. Don't let Dusty lead you on...She walked in a door, walked about 10 feet to the place she needed to be and when finished, hightailed it right back outside! She was just BARELY in the mall.

I got my first amaryllis at Lowe's yesterday for cheap and I'm going to set it up here shortly. Should be fun to watch it grow.

That BARELY was more than adequate Sissy dear...I told you in the parking garage that I was gonna have an anxiety attack...I absolutely HATE Malls...and I lied to ya...I counted it up and the last time I was in a Mall was in 1989 in Victorville, CA, so that is more than 15 years ago... The last mall trip before that was in 1979 to go to Neiman Marcus under violent protest to get 2 evening gowns for the Wassail Ball and New Years Eve at the Cherokee Town club in Atlanta...LOL

I have a dumb question...Can I plant daffodil bulbs now? I only have 2 and they are the Peruvian Daffs with the spidery heads...

Cookie...Mixing that seed 50-50 worked...They are attacking the tube again...LOL

Dusty, most Peruvian daffs aren't reliably winter hardy; I believe I'd pot them. Most marginally hardy things are best planted out in spring, that extra time to settle in seems to help survival. I'm right there with ya on malls- I avoid 'em like the plague!

Dusty
I only have a minute before running out the door - well, I don't run anymore, but you know what I mean.

I was out looking yesterday, and my earliest witchazel has color showing on a few of the buds! Once you get settled in somewhere to live where you hopefully won't be moving, we can work on finding a source for witchazels for you. The breeder of JERRY the daylily found my witchazels for me, he is good friends with a big time WH breeder near Cleveland named Tim Bratsman (sp?). He will get them for me, but I don't know about getting them and shipping them to someone, or buying them for someone else. I think the folks on the Tree and Shrub forum have some sources though. The burgundy purple one you LOVE is Diane, and it's pretty common - as witchazels go.

If you end up in Michigan, perhaps there is an arboretum up there you could visit, see what they have growing, and that would let us know what varieties will do well that far north.

Gee thanks Bro!!!!! I love you too!!! You trying to kill me off?????

Neal Baybee... thanks for that info...I gots me a nice pot and lotsa dirt, so I guess I will pot it up...I'd hate for it to die.. it is sooooo pretty...I would like to get more of them but they are pricey, and if they don't over winter well her, then there isn't much point...

I got the valance up over the bathroom shower finally...and my gold mirror hung in the hallway...Made a HUGE dent in the guestroom mess...
I emptied out a huge box that is about to get filled up again with things I can no longer use or have room or a need for...

Since I know I am off this Thursday for New Years, I will take down my tree etc. then and start the cleaning and rearranging on this end of the house...By the time I get to the other end, it will start all over again...LOL

Jules my dear...I am not going to be going to MI, now or in the distant future...My son is unemployed now, so the farmhouse deal fell thru...and to be honest, I just did not want to move back there anyway...but was lonely for family...I have that 2 fold here with Cookie and Bertie, and here is where I will stay...Is the Diane one of the early bloomers??

And now I know the address. Your southern cousin can come up for a winter visit and see more northern cousins. Now don't worry, It will not be a true "southern visit" just a weekend. I always get itchy to get away from the house in the winter and you did offer and I fully plan to take you up on it, Ms. Dusty!

Jeff has already asked if I'm taking a mini vacation this winter. I think I drive the poor man crazy with my sketch book, magazines(which are piling up. I won't look at them just yet) and garden plans for the spring. At least now he knows what a hosta is! LOL

Hey everybody

Happy Sunday!

Menu is a go but I am not doing the dessert. The guest are gonna bring dessert.

Talk later.

Quicky Sweet Potato Pie

1 lb sweet potato
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup milk
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust

Boil sweet potato whole in skin for 40 to 50 minutes, or until done. Run cold water over the sweet potato, and remove the skin.
Break apart sweet potato in a bowl. Add butter, and mix well with mixer. Stir in sugar, milk, eggs, nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla. Beat on medium speed until mixture is smooth. Pour filling into an unbaked pie crust.
Bake at 350 degrees for about an hour or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Pie will puff up like a souffle, and then will sink down as it cools.

Later!

Ooooh, that pie sounds delish! I made one that had cream cheese in it. I need to see if I can track that recipe down here on DG as I'm pretty sure I posted it.

Isn't the sunshine nice today? The winds that came through last night were really something, as was the rain. We went to bed with our windows open, enjoying that fresh air. Sometime during the night, the rain and wind kicked up and we had wet dogs nudging Howie. The poor girls' bed is beneath one of the windows and they received a good sprinkling. There was wetness a good four feet into the room! We definitely need to change the sheets...Wet dogs, ugh!

Sue, I don't remember talking frozen potatoes... but hey, my memory is like swiss cheese... LOL.

I went down almost to Knoxville today, drove a truckload following Sunny & Joseph's also loaded vehicle to their new place. It is an absolutely gorgeous setting. Reminds me a little of this place... house with yard in front sloping down to a will-be garden area, then the creek, and then the road which is on the other side of the creek. But unlike here, you cannot see another house from their place, and I didn't see any cars pass on the road.

When I got home, the Kid had baked the Christmas ham, made mashed potatoes from some of my stash in the root cellar, so the 2 of us had "Christmas Dinner" at the table. Was quite nice. :) We shoulda had some of Toni's sweet tater pie though... yum.

Well, these old bones are tired from all day in the truck fighting strong cross-winds and rain, so I'm gonna get horizontal.

What a nice gesture!

Sorry Sue we're ALL cleaned out.
But if you need any advice tomorrow on the Toy feel frre to call or DMail me.

Mostly today we moved stuff in the room and figured placement and cabs we need to build.
The one 10' of wall will be a bank of counter top height cabs.
This room will be basically a sewing room... doubling as a dining room on occasion.
We need to build in a folding cutting table and sewing machine stand that will be hidden when not in use.
Robyn will also have her computer out there too.
We have already decided to build in a hidden sliding bookcase at the far/door end behind the Pantry.
At some point we will replace the louvered closet doors w/ swinging bookcase doors too.
Interestingly enough we're getting a lot of our ideas from old 50/60's storage and woodworking mags and books.

Hey everybody, I have checked in a time or two today, but didn't post, just read.

Toni, that pie sure sounds good. I have never made one, but have tasted it. Your menu sounds really good, wish you could zap me some of it down here.

Ric, sounds like you are gonna get bunches of storage space, and still have a room that can be a multipurpose room. I never thought to look at old magazines for storage ideas.

Cookie, kidnapping, I would have never thought it, hehe. Sounds like you had a good excursion.

Sue, have you tried the Musinex DM? It breaks up phlem in the chest, allowing you to cough it up easier.

Darius, how far is Knoxville from you? Will you still be able to go visit Sunny? Sounds like the "kid" is growing up. Glad that you were able to enjoy a Christmas meal, at the table no less. Is she worried about her mother and the drinking?

Jules, if you have a source for the witch hazels, I would be interested in them too. I think they are so pretty in the winter time, and just about all of my trees in the yard are flowering varieties

George, if you need a destination for a mini vacation, I ain't that far away!!

Kimberly, have you heard any more on the job? Sure hope that you can get back to work the first of the year. Did you get any scrapbooking stuff for christmas?.

Joyce, boy with an agenda when you woke up, and then quickly deteriorated into not a thing to do, that is a shock to the system.

Dusty, I have all my decorations down, and the house back to normal, or as close to normal as it will get. Feels good too.

DGD was sick last night, and when I woke her up this morning, she was still not feeling good. DH was staying with his DM, so not having anybody to stay with her, and not wanting to leave her by herself, I stayed home from church too. It has been a long day. The meals have not been on schedule, and I have read and worked on the cemetery database, and got the letters to the Board members asking for help identifying living relatives ready to go out in the mail tomorrow. All that and still, after it got dark, I thought it must be 9 pm at least, and looked at the clock and it was only 7. So it has been a long long day here.

Way to Go Toni Sis... Make it as easy on you as you possibly can... Nothing worse than having a terrific party, and then a major cleaning meltdown, especially when its just you with no other help...
Thank you for the recipe!!! I had almost everything in my head from Mammy, but forgot portions...Love Ya Girly!!! You got the Hoopdy loaded yet?? All I gotta do is clean off the bed now...everything else is done!!!

I didn't get my runs until late tonight, but my Wheelie is now in the driveway and ready for my 6am pick up in Mason... Gotta make a quick trip on the way home, or somewhere tomorrow to get 4 short curtain rods...mine are all too long and can't even be sawed off with a hacksaw because they are spring rods... :-((

Smokey, Emmett and Kelly are having a blast in the new clean reef tank water...Dori is a morning person, and has already gone to bed...LOL
I gave the rocks one last blast before cleaning the Fluval.. and it really needed it...The filters were filthy so 75% got changed, and the rest rinsed to maintain the bacteria...Next weekend I will get the skimmer hooked back up...right now, it isn't needed...I am using the pump to circulate the water faster to help blow the rocks and clear it...working great...Smokey seems to be my best barometer for the tank.. if he isn't happy, nobody is...LOL...I am Pickled tink how well it looks now...LOL

Bons...I luv ya dearlin, but you make me tired...How on earth do you go like the Energizer bunny like you do??? I have had 4 days off and I am exhausted, and it all starts over again tomorrow...

Geo my dear son... if Miz Toni ain't sleepin in it, it's all yours...and you KNOW how to get here...I would love to have you come spend a weekend...so would Cookie...we have 3 beds spare between us...Neal needs to come and bring Dave to see this Reef...Hooked??? Oh Yeah!!

Okay y'all...Time for me to play in the rain locker and find my rack...Gotta be up at 4 am...

Love you Cookie, and Thank you again!!! (cept for the MALL) Cringe!!!

Yes, Ma'am...checking in...all's well on the homefront here. Nothing special going on. Just been cleaning seeds that I collected a couple of months ago and finishing up the garden plans for the market garden come spring, rearranged the bedroom and enjoying this last couple of weeks at home. (Hard to believe I've been able to stay home for a full year) Should be getting the phone call some time this week for a new job. Looks like we'll be Texas-bound at this point. That job fits our needs better. Already have good friends there, better pay and a May layoff, so Al can come back and work the CSA garden with me.

Dusty, good thing you like fish tanks! Sure a lot of work getting them cleaned up, but they are so peaceful and relaxing to watch.

Ric, your new room sounds awesome!

Bonnie, hope DGD is feeling better. Wonder if there's some kind of virus going around? Al was feeling pretty puny yesterday, too.

Sue, ditto on the Musinex...wonderful stuff!

Toni, your menu sounds delicious!

Well, Goodmorning to Everyone, hope y'all have a great day!

We did end up at IKEA after all yesterday. They changed their minds again and have bought a closet system that is 8 feet long and wouldn't fit in their car, so Dad to the rescue. Then he fixed their furnace. I had a nice chat with Tina and the dogs are always happy to see Nana and Papaw. 5 pound Chihuahua and 100 pound Giant Alaskan Malamute, now there's a real Mutt and Jeff!

Ric, I asked Dusty about the Outlet mall when we went by it and since those doors will open to the outside she said she could handle that. We'll just have to call it something besides the "m" word!! :-)

Today I'll be off to lunch with a girlfriend then to the last ultrasound for the January GS coming...that should be fun...

Be safe all!

Good Monday Morning!

Aack, I awakened full of Resolve and Vinegar. I dreamed my scales said 175 pounds! I know I am too heavy, but not that much and it really frightened me. So I need to alter my current eating habits, which merely means using the kitchen more. I had moved so much of my stuff out of the kitchen lately (due to the conflict here) that I seldom cook, except to bake for friends.

Speaking of baking... I'm working on developing a couple of savory biscotti recipes to serve with soups or a glass of wine. I made a batch 2 days ago from a recipe I found somewhere (might even have been DG) for Parmesan and Rosemary biscotti. The recipe needs a LOT of work!

Ric, you are so skilled, why not make Robyn a tambour cutting table that looks like a sideboard or a drop-leaf table when it's rolled up? Easy to do, just takes canvas, glue and narrow boards... plus a track/frame of course.

'Good morning everyone! Bright sunshiny day here...but cold. I guess it is supposed to be up into the 40's though...before the day is over! I can handle that!!
We are going to take the tree down today...and put away all the Christmas stuff for another year. I am ready to get back to normal.
Forgot to put my beans to soak last night...but got up early and did a 'fast soak'...so soon will be cooking them for tonight's dinner. They smell good already!
Nothing going on here today except putting things away.
We had a couple of things to return yesterday...so got that done. Now we both have to figure out something else we want...lol!! I told Dave he could spend mine on something from a plant catalog...just haven't found out what yet!
Did you all see there is a new bittersweet that is self fruitful? I think it was in Jungs? but not positive without going to look. I may get one of those!
Well...hope you all have a wonderful day out there!!

Everyone Please read about our fellow Carolyn_Cropper from our last thread , she has had a horrible medical issue with a Dr that is a nut job and i think she could use some extra T&P from us. :)
I hope she comes on over and has the energy to visit with us , she is a wonderful person.
Carolyn i hope your feeling better and wish the best for you. I think some ginger tea would help IMHO :)

Had a fun day today. Went to have lunch with my girlfriend and I was a little early so I stopped at the Frontgate outlet store to see if I could find something for my GFs birthday on the 1st. Well...I didn't find anything for her..actually I found the perfect thing for her a professional jewelry cleaner, but I called her DH and she already has one...shoot. They just got it 6 months ago, too. However, I have been wanting a new artificial Christmas tree that is prelit. I don't mind the decorating, but putting the lights on and taking them off absolutely drive me CRAZY! Well, I looked at Sears the other day when they were having their clearance and they had one that was prelit with 600 lights. It just didn't look like it had much on it at all and it was $129 so more than I wanted to pay, too. So today as I'm browsing the trees, I see a 7.5 foot canaan tree with 1200 lights on it. I look at the price...$445.00. BUT they are having 75% off, so I figure okay around $110.00. Better price twice as many lights. So I find an extension cord and I give it a try...it is beautiful!! So I decide to splurge and get it. I am so happy with this tree! Then when she goes to check me out the price is... drumroll please...$75.00!!!!! Whoohoo!!! Happy dance here!

Then, after lunch I went to see the ultrasound of the new baby that's coming. The tech says he weighs 5 lb. 9 oz right now. So in one more month he should be a nice size. She's a little scared about having it C-section, but I'm sure it will be fine.

Hubby wanted Chinese food for dinner so I got out of cooking too. I've already called Bertie and we're heading to the Kenwood Mall tomorrow. I like this vacation!!!

So did the rest of you stay out of trouble today?

Evening friends. I did a run to the bank, post office, library and dollar store for cleaning stuff. Came home and since I had ingredients for sausage balls and stuffed mushrooms that I never got to cook for Christmas, did that. Cleaned out my pantry cabinet, and rearranged things, and then sat and read awhile this afternoon. DS stopped by early afternoon and visited with him a short while.

Had picked up some steaks the other day, so grilled them for supper, and they were very good. My life in the wintertime is so boring.

Joyce, what a great deal on the tree. I had thought I would look for one, but if I don't in the next day or two, they will all be gone. The most I have seen off on them is 50%. Glad that you enjoyed your day.

Sue, you accomplised a lot. How are you and the kidlets feeling? Did you try the musinex?

I saw Carolyn's post over on the other thread, what a nightmare she has had. Hope that she is able to get it all resolved.

Henygirl, you still keeping up?

Marcy, I have to go look at the recipe forum, what could be added ingredients that would make bean soup that much better?

Ric, now I have to go look up what kind of table you are talking about. I have never heard of them.

Dusty, are you home yet?

I need to Vent here for a quick second...I am going to ask for prayers... I have tried to keep it low keyed, but with the escalation in the Gaza with Israel and the Hamas, I don't think Afghanistan is going to be far behind... and Major Doctor Paul, is now going to be deployed there until June...He leaves Wright Patt on Jan 10th...He is on leave now, to spend with his Family...He was with his Daddy today, and they called me about 40 minutes ago...That was a real treat!! Post #5942680

Well Hello strangers! I posted this on the old thread before I knew it was old lol.

Sorry I have been gone for so long. I have been in the hospital again, then got out and caught that darn stomach flu and gave it to the whole family!

I had one heck of a time in the hospital this time. Went in to pneumonia and bleeding kidneys, stayed a couple days and woke up with a horrific migraine. Asked the nurse to get the dr to give me something for it,...waited and waited like 10 hours. Then demanded medication cause I was at the point I couldnt stand anymore. Dr said no, asked to see another doctor, they said no, asked if my hubby could bring my meds from home, they said no again. So I asked if I could go down the hall to the ER, once again I was told NO. Told the nurse to inform the dr that if I didnt get something from them to kick the migraine I was gonna be forced to leave, He said go ahead and leave then.
So I signed out AMA and went down the hall to the ER. Got me in quick, took my bp was 159/98 which is extremely high for me. Mine is usually like 90/60. Gave me 2 shots and laid me in a dark room for 25 minutes. After that my BP went back to normal and the pain was going away.

The funny part to this whole thing is that they told me to see my doctor the next day at his office so I did. When I got there he accused me of being a drug addict and said he would no longer treat me in his office unless I sought help! I asked him if he thought I faked pneumonia to get into to the hospital, stayed for a couple days just to fake pain to get the same medication that I have sitting on my shelf at home?? He is the one who prescribed it to me in the first place! It was totally insane. Then he said I needed psychological help and asked me to leave. Go figure? at that point I was furious.
Anyhow I am now seeing a new doctor which thinks the other one is nuts and has a medication phobia or something. But the good news is that I found out when I got my records from the hospital that I have a rare form of bacteria in my lungs that has been present for quite some time. Not many antibiotics will kill it but I am on one now that will. Hopefully I will recover from this and not be as sick in the future. I guess my old doctor doesnt prescribe the correct antibiotics either.
So I called my lawyer and we are gonna have some fun with him in the near future. Not sure what we can do yet, but you can bet he will regret leaving me in pain for 14 hours needlessly!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Holliday. I have missed a lot of posts but I plan on catching up when I can.

Any major news I missed out on?

What a roller coaster you've been on, Carolyn! I'm glad you're on an antibiotic that should work now, but so sorry to hear you went through such an ordeal at the hospital and with your doctor. I can't imagine being sick in the hospital then getting a migraine on top of it. That's nuts you had to sign out AMA and go to the ER! I'd be writing some letters to the state medical board.

Thanks to all for your well wishes.

I do enjoy some ginger tea from time to time. My mother tries to get me to eat crystalized ginger straight but it is just too strong for me. I like the tea better.

I am recovering slowly, not as fast as I would like, but a bit better each day. My new doctor put me on some meds to help me sleep...and geez i'm still awake at 1am lol. go figure.
I am being tested for many things to try and figure out why I stay so sick all the time, why all my bones hurt, why I run fever for no reason some days and others its around 95 and the constant lack of energy. We are leading towards either lupus, rhumatoid arthritis, or fibromyalgia.
The doc says though that it might just be that my body has been put to its limits with the cancer last spring and 2 surgeries along with 4 bouts of pneumonia. That makes sense enough I guess. He told me that i'm not superwoman ya know, I laughed and said I didnt agree, He dont know my x-hubbies I delt with for years lol.
I am hopeful now about the new year. My resolution is to stay out of the hospitals and lose the weight I gained while in them! For some reason I dont think my body likes IV's. In may I gained 27lbs in 4 days, july I gained 12lbs in 3 days, September was another 17lbs in 2 days, and this month it was 9. We all know it cant be the hospital food lol. I really dont believe they actually expect people to eat that stuff. I looked at my bill and my breakfast cost $50 for powdered eggs, toast, an orange, and black coffee. Talk about markup! Insane. No wonder insurance costs so much.

I had a great Christmas despite all the rest. This was little Olivia's first real Christmas that she could understand. It was thrilling to see her tearing paper and jumping up and down at the gifts.

She turned 3 on the 23rd as well. She wanted a barbie princess cake for her birthday. I couldnt afford to buy one so I made one myself. It was quite a challenge, but fun. I'm sure a bought one would have looked better but she loved it just the same. It was strawberry creme which is her favorite.
Today was my oldests birthday, she is now 14. she does not like cake or anything so she got a canteloupe filled with ice cream and candles lol. It worked for her.

I am so looking forward to this month and getting my winter sowing started. I cant handle the cold right now it hurts my bones too much so i'm making my dh bring all the soil and stuff I need inside and i'm gonna pot it all in the dining room! That should be fun to clean up. Then he can take them all outside again lol. he is such a good sport even though he hates gardening and is a neat freak. I'm sure this will be horrible for him but I have learned that when it comes to most things he will do whatever I ask. I feel loved :)

Thanks everyone for letting me vent a bit. I will try to be better spirited in the future.

GW I plan on doing that and more. I have already reported him to the insurance panel and my lawyer is getting all the forms I need to file an official complaint with the medical board.
What really ticked me of I guess other than being labeled a druggie was the fact that he told me that " He didnt fight his way into this country to live the American dream just to have some druggie like me to ruin it for him by abusing medications" He is indian. I wish I could get him deported and sent back where he belongs!! This is MY America, not his.

Carolyn that cake is beautiful! I hate that people have abused meds so much that Dr. are scared to prescribe anymore. My sister and best friend are 2 cases of "Dr. shopping" They both got caught and have had to live with pain for over a year and are just now getting regulated again. My friend is doing it right, my sister is up to her old tricks again.
I take one lortab 5 and I'm good to go and then some. She takes 10mg 5 times a day! I have just given up and shut my mouth. She called the other day and now got a Dr. to put her on xanax. She is so excited. I take them too, but have been at the same dose for 4 years.

Also keep the work up about the Dr. being a ^%^&%. They misdiagnosed my gall bladder removal and didn't check my bleeding factors(I'm on thinner's after the heart attack). I left the hospital at 10am the morning after and was back by 5 having a blood transfusion(I had to have one more before I left that hospital).
Long story, short they messed up the drain and I now just have a hole in my liver for enzymes to be released. I went septic and had to be rushed to a bigger hospital(UK) I spent 19 days in the hospital for a gall bladder, 5 for open heart surgery??? I hope they find out whats up with you. Springs just around the corner!!

It has been so nice weather wise for the last few days. I have really needed some garden and critter time. Oldest son is gone for a few days and Jeff is working nights for a few also. I have to admit. I needed some alone and outdoor time. It's been fun planning new plants and rearranging some existing ones. I have been looking long and hard at the seed box. The hellebores look like they are going to be awesome this spring. I joined a coop and got some pinks, doubles and magenta ones. I also noticed the witch hazel are getting ready to do their thing.

Dusty your friends will be in my T&P's. I am very concerned about whats going on right now. My oldest turns 18 in Sept. I am praying for all the peoples of the world right now.

Bonnie I need your energy right now. I just feel zapped after the holidays. That is on my to do list is rearrange all my pantries and do under all the cabinets and sink. I got lots of new cook ware and bake ware. I can finally get rid of some of that old stuff I have used for like 10 years! It will go into the friend recycle box and whats left will head to goodwill. We all hope to get together for New years and thats a great time to "gift" friends. We trade stuff all the time. The last trade I got an oriental piece back I had traded off before 3-4 years ago!

Well need to get some ZZZ's

KyWoods!!! Happy Birthday girlfriend!!! Hope you have an awesome day!

The tree is even better than I thought! It comes in 3 pieces and is a snap to put up. and...it has a remote control to turn the lights on and off! Bonnie if you want, I'll check the next time I'm there to see if they have any left. It's not like I won't see you before you need it! They had a 9 footer, same kind with 1700 lights on it if the taller one would suit better. Let me know.

Beautiful cake Carolyn and I'm sorry that you're having to deal with this cwap. (as Dusty would say).

Carolyn, glad to hear you are on the mend. What a horrible experience! I had a bout months ago with my bones "hurting", something I'd never felt before. Trip the ER, I was told that sometimes fever will cause that. Quit hurting when fever was gone. Go figure! Your cake is/was beautiful!

It was beautiful here yesterday, too, but too muddy to do much outside. Suppose to be even nicer today...WhooHoo!

Dusty, what a coincidence! T&P for all!

Marcy, pot of beans sounds good...thank you!

Sue, so did you get to have the big screen in your bedroom?
LOL!

Still sorting seeds and organizing. Anxious to start growing! (((Bonnie, thanks again for your help!)))

Joyce...it is SOOO beautiful!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Ky Woods!

Joyce thanks for the offer, but honestly I have a 5 foot tree, and didn't even use it this year. Used a 2 foot one placed on a table. I sometimes think I need to buy another tree, but, nope not gonna happen, what I have is good enough, and besides next year by not using the 5 foot tree this year, it will seem like it is a new one!!

Carolyn hope that you get properly diagnosed, and that you can begin to feel better soon.

Since tomorrow is new year's eve, think I will do my grocery/errand thing today.

Oh, did I tell you, another litter of puppies born yesterday, 9, and Jazz, they match your 2 just perfectly!!

Ooh, Cookie, that tree is gorgeous alright. Wow! And that cake is beautiful, Carolyn!

Howie didn't want to fuss with the big tree with all its branches and the thing was so big for our little living room, so we officially downsized this holiday season. The little 4' pre-lit tree really does fit better in our little house and since he is "Mr. Christmas" and does all those outside lights, plus assembles our tree, I acquiesced. It turns out I really like the new little tree after all; he added some LED lights to those already on it, and it's chock full with just our special ornaments on it. With the big trees, we always had to use tons of "filler" ornaments to keep them from looking bare. I still love seeing a big tree all decked out, though!

My friend Jenni came over to the house yesterday at about 3pm and we spent the whole afternoon and evening scrapbooking and visiting. I'm still chugging away on my pets album. The van's at the mechanic's shop, so she took me to my hair appointment, then we came back and scrapbooked some more. Poor thing developed an allergy to cat dander when she had a roommate who had multiple cats and never cleaned.

So, of course Snoopy is Little Miss Social when Jenni's here. Last night, she kept standing on her hind legs and patting Jenni's thigh with a paw, wanting to come up on her lap. And when we had the space heater on, that just stirred everything up in the air. By the time Jenni left at 11:30pm, her throat was scratchy and she wasn't feeling so great. I gave her a couple of Benadryl to take when she got home.

Yet, she says she has no intention of staying away, wants to come visit and scrapbook once a week. She's brave! I just hope each visit doesn't make her more sensitive to the cats. I may have to fit her with a HazMat suit and respirator! LOL

If they turn out anything like the ones I have they will be awesome. They were so socialized from her DGD holding them all the time that they are great when you pick them up.They just sit there quiet as mice when you are holding them. We had them in the house when the temps dropped so low and I was stressing that they would pee. we had them in the crate for the most part but Joel adn ALex kept getting them out and they were very well behaved. I esp watched zeke since i figured those little boys like to pee whether they have to or not but they didn't go inside once. What good puppies. Other than going straight for the couch I couldn't complain about their indoor behavior

I had my baby girl "precious" for 3 years and ended up having to give her away. She was a schnoodle. my best friend ever. She acted more human than dog most of the time. Wouldn't even go out in the rain unless she had her coat and boots on lol. I miss her.

Hey Everyone! Sorry to hear of those being ill and mistreated too! Hospitals and Drs. must be the same everywhere!
Well..it's been no power here again today...until now! Power went out just after breakfast here. The way it dipped and then came back on...and then off...several times...I figured someone hit a pole. Yep...there goes the rescue squad ...there goes the fire truck...oops...there goes the sherriff! After a couple of hours...it came back on. I had just turned on the puter...when zap! gone again!! I called again...and they said they are setting a new pole...so it wouldn't be off long...and it wasn't. It's just that you have to reset so many things in the house!! Water softner timer...microwave...etc. Hopefully it is on to stay now.
I have to go to the library and the little grocery in town...so I will find out what happened. Surely Dave knows by now...LOL!!!
Nothing going on here to really talk about. Msrobin...those different ingredients REALLY made that bean soup taste sooooooooo good!!! I hope you all try it!

Long time no see!

5 day weekend here!
And the new room is officially the cat room.
All 4 cats are curled up out there now.

Well the 8 month ordeal is over.
We finally shipped that 4 gear order this afternoon.
(remember those 13,000 pound giant rings... )
If I never see another one again I'll scream!
Well actually a couple of orders like that a year and we'd be in VERY good shape.
They are going on a new ship the navy is having built.

It's cooler for sure as we haven't hooked up the heat yet.

I bet mama's pretty worn out by now! I was surprised how many various-terrier-beagle puppies there were on Petfinder when I was browsing yesterday for a friend looking for a beagle puppy. Lots of pups needing homes around here...Wish we could get a puppy. :)

Howie's company laid a lot of people off today...122 people between the Illinois and Wisconsin plants, including two people from his office here in Ohio. The good news is, he isn't one of those who lost a job here. Our good friend Mark did, though, along with one of the two women who works in the office. Those left behind are swamped, of course. At least the company is telling everyone they hope this is temporary; Howie's previous employer just said "bye!". It won't do a bit of good to scream about this economy, but I want to.

Mama dog is doing just fine. Very hungry yesterday afternoon and this morning, but we are feeding her canned food, plus the dry, in order for her to take care of feeding the puppies.

If you know of anybody who is wanting a good hunting dog, please let them know of this litter. There is absolutely no way that we can keep any of them. The only expense would be to come pick them up, or to arrange transportation. They gotta go before I get attached!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RENEE` !!!!

Good Evening all...
Made it home to a nearly dark house... No Christmas tree lit and no porch lights on...Jim was sound asleep in his recliner...Dogs woke him up, he came out of his den, said hello and went back in to watch a ball game and promptly fell back asleep...I put on a pot of chili, and it's done, so he can eat when he gets out of the shower... He overdid it today...Big time... Rearranged his Den...I need to rearrange his behind...Grrrr!!!

There was a wonderful treat waiting for me when I got here...Bro Bill was here today and put up the fencing for the dog yard...My Puppers are really happy campers now!! They have access to the big back patio, and a nice big yard...Much easier to clean up now as well...

I have a wait & return tomorrow from Liberty, IN to Richmond, IN at 9:45, so I get to sleep in a bit...Then I have 2 local Daytons at 2 & 3pm...Then hopefully done...The weather is not supposed to be very good, with flurries and high winds again tonight...It's 45* here now...Weird!!!
I would like to be home before the Party Animals take to the roads...I am going to stop at Krogers and get 2 big ham slices and a chunk of salt pork for Thursday so I can have my greens and black eyes...and I am gonna get me some sweet taters, and make me a Sweet Tater Pie...Thank You Toni Sis!!!

If I work Friday, I'm gonna take some to one of my dear ladies...She is 82 and I told her that Toni had posted the recipe for me, and she said none of her family made a Tater pie for her Christmas this year...She has boys, and I guess their wives are not into Family tradition...I may make 2 pies, and take a half each to her on Park Place and another lady in Desoto Bass that is dear to me, and I'll take a tiny lil chunk of mine to ole crotchety Earl in Springfield...Bet I get a smootch for that !!!! He can't have much as he is diabetic...But I sneak him lil slivers of treats that I know won't set his sugar off...I dooo love that onery ole man... :-))

Congrats on the new tribe Bons...Nooo I don't want one...LOL

Thank you all for prayers for Major Dr Paul...He is a bit antsy but he will be fine...6 months in that hole with a new administration here in this country scares me to death...

Sleep well all...I am off to the rain locker...I popped a Zicam tonight, as I felt chilled and still feel that way tonight...so gonna do an early bed.

How are your dinner plans for tomorrow coming along Toni???

I just went out to start the Wheelie and get it warmed up, and that wind is nasty..It is NNW at 16 with gusts so far of 37...and a temp of 26.6...I'll be having a headwind going up US 27, and a crosswind all the way across 725...Guess I had better pack my anchor...LOL

Time to roll, so you all stay warm, and watch out for the drunks...They were already out yesterday...

We camped every Summer for about 10 years at Whitewater State Park just a few miles from there.
We'd trade Families for weeks at a time.

We have no plans for the weekend, too old to party, and don't like to be in drunken crowds. (what did we ever think we saw in those kinds of things?) So will probably just sit at home, and read, may toast the new year, but may be in bed by that time too.

I am cleaning kitchen cabinets, outside, and then straightening and rearranging everything inside. I can sure get them in a mess.

Have a little snow on the ground from last night, but the sun is shining, and unless you stick your head out the door, it looks very warm and pretty outside.

Break is over, so got to get moving.

I don't think we've been out for New Year's Eve since we've been married. One or both of us may have worked but we didn't do anything socially. We also call it amateur drinker's night. It seems to be a night when those that rarely drink, drink because of the occasion, which is worse. No tolerance for alcohol means more idiots at a faster pace. LOL

Howie may have to work tomorrow since they're so swamped with their former coworkers' projects now. We're going to spend the evening with our friends in Canal Winchester. Shawna's making squash soup and steaks. I don't know if we'll stay to midnight or not. It's almost an hour's drive to their place and I'd rather not be out on the road with the crazies after midnight, anyway.

They look pretty cool w/ their little heads waving around.

Usually we head next door to Jon and Terri's for NYE.
But they just got back from their Honeymoon (married last weekend in Gatlinburg) and are heading to Greenville to see her Family.
We're actually in walking distance from the neighborhood bar but I hate Amateur Night.

So we're just hanging...

Well, our celebration is over. We had to take DGD to her sister's house late this afternoon, and decided to eat out, celebrating New Year's Eve and our Anniversary which is Friday. Had a good meal, and it would have been perfect except for a party of 5 who had started their celebration early and were well on the way to drunk, and they were very noisy.

DGD decided that the puppies would be better off (her words) so she moved them into a crate in the garage. They have a blanket in the crate, with straw over that, and 2 blankets that are covering the crate, to keep out any drafts!! She is such a mother hen.

Sue you are close enough that you could zip down here in about 7 weeks and pick up one to take home with you. You know with T gone, you need some protection!!, and just think the kids would have their entertainment, and that would give you plenty of free time, since they would be occupied with a puppy, that you could read, or watch tv, or what ever. A built in baby sitter!! You know you want to do it, wink, wink.

If I don't get back here tonight, just want to wish you all a very prosperous and happy New Year.

Checking in to let you know I made it to 2009! Would not have known it was midnight, except for all the gunshots, firecrackers, fireworks etc. going off outside. Normally it is really quiet where I live. Dog started barking and cat ran for the basement. I was sitting cleaning out old emails. I am on the AHS daylily robin, and all the emails from that go in to a folder. I get around to deleting mail from it about once a year. LOL. I think it had over 7000 messages in it. I lead such an exciting life. Cleaning out my hard drive on New Year's Eve.

My boss gave me a gift card for Best Buy for Christmas so wandered around there yesterday looking for something to spend it on. He does this every year. It's really nice - I have never had a boss give out personal gifts like that before. Not the owner of the company, just my department boss. It's $30. But, I never know what to get with it. One year, he got one for me from Baker's Acres Greenhouse - I had no problem spending that one! But from Best Buy? Everything I want from there is $500 or more! LOL I always end up spending more $$ than the gift is. Most of my co-workers buy CD's with theirs, or computer games. I don't listen to "normal" music - so CD's are usually out. For the most part, I listen to hammered dulcimer music, or musicians I hear at dulcimer festivals, or through the Dulcimer Players News. You don't find that at Best Buy. LOL.

Anyway, I ended up adding some $$ and getting a "RoadTrip" for my iPhone. It plugs into the power supply on the dash, broadcasts what's on the to the car's FM radio. That way you can play CDs, or podcasts over your radio. I knew they had something out that plugged into an auxilliary jack, but I don't have one in my car. I usually listen to books on CD in the car, but have gone through most of the selection at the library.

I do download a lot more audio podcasts than I can listen to. I love them! So, this way, I can listen to podcasts on my commute without having earphones in. I don't think it's safe to drive with earphones on (although I have driven with one in and one out). Or I could listen to music. I think I have close to 70 CD's loaded on my phone so far. I don't listen to music on the radio, again because of my odd music preference - but mostly because of the vibration. Sometimes I listen to talk radio. I didn't really get the RoadTrip for music, I need to use earbuds when I listen to music - instead I got it to listen to Podcasts. I download all kinds of podcasts, from Garrison Keillor (sp?) to A Splendid Table (which is a wonderful cooking related one) Whad Ya' Know, The Gestalt Gardener, Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, MacCast (about Mac computers)... there's so many available! Anyone can get them from iTunes, they are free. I hope this thing works. I stood there in the store, in front of the display, on my iPhone and looked it up on the internet, read the reviews. Some good, some bad. Seems to work well if you are not in a super congested FM area. LOL... I felt like such a "geek"... That iPhone was such a big deal purchase for me. Took me a year to save for it and decide to really get it... but I LOVE it. I use it all the time. LOL about 2 months after I got mine, they came out with a faster one that was half the price. Isn't that the way it always is?

I think the biggest thing about the iPhone was having music back in my life. I never listened to an iPod before I got my iPhone which has an iPod in it. With the nerve disease I have, vibration is very painful. I lost all enjoyment for music because it is painful. I can not tolerate movie theaters, surround sound systems, concerts. Anyway - with the iPod on my phone, I can put the earphones in, and listen to music again! Only my ears feel the vibration, not my whole body, so it doesn't bother my painful nerves. I don't know why I didn't think of it before. When I tried it, I was just overcome. I was 3 years without music. We are allowed to use earbuds at work, so I can listen to music, or podcasts while I work.

Well, Mom is now up, so I better get a move on. Will try to get our tree taken down today. It's a process putting it up, but I detest taking one down. About 2/3 of my ornaments are cats of some sort. It has taken me years and years to collect them. My goal is one day to have a tree with only cats on it. I am a "cat" person... guess you could tell that. I have blown glass ones, handmade cloth ones, wooden ones, feather ones, you name it. even a fish with a cat's head - a "cat fish"...

Wishing everyone a wonderful and prosperous New Year!

Happy New Years everyone! And welcome Ashley - these folks are great, you're gonna love it here,

Jules, I'm so glad the iPod works for you! Those podcasts are truly wonderful things, as are the audio books that you can download from libraries - I'm totally hooked on those things. It's great to be able to listen to music, or even a book, while you're out weeding or gardening. I would love to listen to them while driving, but Nora won't let me - even through the cd player, as she doesn't trust other drivers to the point she wants me paying complete attention. I'm a pretty darned good driver, but since it makes her nervous we usually just chat, or drive in silence. In all the thousands of miles that I've driven, a lot of them have been in silence as I love the scenery and the "down time" to let my mind wander. Sort of like being in the shower - I solve all sorts of problems, but don't remember half the solutions by the time I get to my destination!

I got some great news this morning. I've been waiting for the link - a friend of mine from my volunteer days at the Chicago Botanic Garden is the new blogger for Horticulture magazine. She knows her plants like crazy, and is a lot of fun. If you want a laugh, and some actual good ideas for the garden, take a peek: http://www.hortmag.com/kissmyaster

Good Morning, Good Morning... and Happy New Year!

I've been putzing around this morning, getting ham, collard greens and black-eyed peas ready to cook. The house is quiet, winds are calm, the sun is shining, and it's warming up a bit after a low of 11 overnight. I fell asleep before the ball came down in Times Square, but wakened later to watch drivel on the tube. Such an exciting life, LOL.

Toni, you made me laugh. ::::stay::::

Jules, we love podcasts, too. You mention a lot of them we love on NPR. They're so entertaining and we learn a lot from them. We like tech shows, too, including Leo Laporte and others from TWIT (This Week in Tech). http://twit.tv/ There are lots of good ones from various Christian broadcasts we enjoy, too. Howie listens to a lot of them while he walks to and from work.

We had a low-key new year's eve, spent with Ben and Shawna. Their son went right to bed after dinner, and we grown-ups (I use that term loosely) played Monopoly. I've never played a game of monopoly through, can you believe it?

I've always thought it a tedious, interminable game. Well, I played a whole game with those three and I won! Big! Those of you who really know me can well imagine my clueless self not realizing when someone's landed on my property and owes me rent, being in jail three times *all while having the Get Out of Jail Free card...Yes, it was a struggle for me to pay attention while socializing. LOL I rather like that game now that I realize what it's all about!

All that money, all those deeds, all those hotels along the ritzy side of the board...Mine, mine, mine. All mine!

Wish life were like that...Long as I won. LOL

Evenin Y'all...Balmy 33* here this evening...

Birds have gone to bed, so I refilled my feeders, and carried out a bunch of bagged up trash to go tomorrow...Rearranged the living room, and vacuumed it all...I haven't dusted yet, but there is always tomorrow...LOL
Hush Bons!!

I've done 3 loads of laundry in self defense...2 more to go...Jim tried to help this week, sloshed some bleach on the basement floor trying to pour it in the washer tray, and my good 3 yr old flannel sheets got it, as well as 2 of my tops...one of which was my good grey turtleneck sweater...
I can't be angry because he was only trying to help, but it still didn't do wonders for my attitude when I found it hanging on the pole with the sleeve bleached out to pink...Not to mention pink splotches all over my forest green sheets and pillowcases...

If it warms up any at all tomorrow, I am going to move my Wrought Iron pieces into place where I want them and put down the grass killer, and get the fountain pieces moved into place, but tip them so they don't get any water in them...I have to repair the Lions head again, but that's no biggie...I'll do that this spring in the garage when it warms up...I want to get my arch moved into place, and get the area around the front porch cleaned up and mulched...That will do it until Spring...

My Roses in the tub are doing well under the patio cover, and my Rosemary seems to be still alive in its pot out there too...The Heuchera finally wilted, but is very much alive as are all of my Hens & chicks and other hardy succulents, so I guess I have a good start on Spring planting...I have a ton of seeds to sow, so maybe I will have a garden this year at long last...My Daylilies are thriving under Grow light bulbs in my warm basement, in 2 huge tubs...Our basement is so warm we can leave the door open so the animals can go down there to get their food and water and the Cats sandbox is down there too...Sure makes life easier... ;-))

I'm off to dish up supper... yes, we eat late...Thanks to work, but we eat very lite during the day...

Have a wonderful day tomorrow!!!

Melissa!!! Where are you ?????

Posting from phone. Thoughts and prayers needed for us tonight. Mom called in a panic because dad has had terrible pain in his back today that moved around to his stomach, but refuses to go to the local hospital.

He's a veteran and has to go to a veterans hospital to have coverage. Mom just has medicare. Local hospital is terrible, ER has a bad reputation and has twice sent him home while in the middle of life threatening issues. They just have a really bad rep for trauma.

I finally talked him into going to Mt. Carmel East in Columbus. They're on their way in there and so are we, a little behind them.

Kimberley...Listen to me verrrrry carefully...In an ER situation...he can go to a local, and tell them he is a VA Patient, and they will and MUST BY LAW, stabilize him, and then transport him to the nearest VA APPROVED Facility...In Coronary cases, he may be flown by chopper to Cleveland...That is where they send most of them...Many are treated at OSU...He WILL be covered by the VA no matter where they send him, so calm down, and tell yer Mom to calm down too...Just be certain the center he goes to knows that he is a VA patient, and show them his ID card...I am sending Smoke as we speak...If you all do not understand your Fathers full rights as a VA Patient, and obviously you do not, do not hesitate to ask me...If your Father is over 62 yrs old, he is also covered by Medicare...

Please be calm... and handle the people at the facility gently and not in a panic mode..There is nothing to panic about... he will be covered, no matter what...

Evening folks, it has been a pretty laid back day here. Someone once told me that what you do on New Years Day you will be doing the rest of the year, so I tried to keep it simple. I did clean some windows, but that was out of necessity, in order to see outside. I did clean the bathrooms, just so I wouldn't gross myself out!! But otherwise, it was spent reading and relaxing.

Kimberly keeping you and your family in my t & ps.

Dusty, you may have forced the daylilies from dormancy with the light. I would suspect that they will bloom inside, and you may not have blooms when you transplant them outside. But I am no expert, wish Chele or somebody would comment on that. I am just saying this from something I did last year. I bought a daylily on the auction, and it arrived too late to plant out, so I potted it up and put it with all the other things that I was keeping inside for the winter, I had gorgeous blooms inside, but when I put it out that spring, didn't have a bloom one. Sorry about the ruined clothes, but he was trying to help. Sounds like something my DH would do.

Marcy, finally looked at that bean soup recipe, sounds really good, and when I decide to make some soup, I will use that recipe. Yum.

~~~ at all the rest, not slighting you at all, just have a moment of CRS, even though I have read everything, can't remember what was said.
They got him right into a bed in the ER and are soon going to give him a CT scan with contrast. They seem to be on top of things, offered him painkiller in his IV, but he won't take it. Stubborn!
Dusty, he said he doesn't have full veterans benefits, wasn't wounded in action or ever overseas or something? I am not sure what he's talking about.
Kimberly (((HUGS)))!
Bonnie I hope that New Years Day thing is wrong.
I'm hoping to have that room done in less than 12 months! ;-)
Just a little Thank You to a Lurker here... come in from the cold when you feel ready.
We started back on the FPR today.
Some more beadboard up and the HardiBacker down for the tile on the Window Seat.
Tomorrow will see everything but the Tile done there.
Still working out the design on the Cab/Sewing Station on the West Wall.
Hang tough, Girlfriend. Stay strong.
Love You!
ETA:
I am also a veteran and I don't have a service connected disability. EVERYTHING DUSTY IS SAYING IS RIGHT ON THE MONEY. ::::::: I HAD A very serious surgury AT THE VA and it cost me ZERO.
THE VA WILL TAKE YOUR DAD! He just needs his social and the Vet rep on duty will handle the rest. Worst case scenerio he will have a very small co-pay for meds and such. Let me know if you come to Cleveland and I can meet you at the VA in the morning.
Dmailing you my phone number.
Thanks so much, Toni. I will paste what I Dmailed you:
He has small bowel obstruction and his gallbladder is a culprit too - has stones in it. There is scar tissue up by his stomach and in his small intestines.
He's been able to pass some, but, she said, not nearly enough.
Years ago he was in a bad motorcycle wreck and had feeding tubes. It could be adhesions have slowly constricted the bowels.
He's being admitted, staying here - not good to transport him to another (VA) facility with it being a bowel obstruction.
We'll know more when the surgical consult gets here. Dad's biggest worry is the bills, but the people will just have to accept $5 payments. Since he's being admitted, medicare A and B should cover some, right?
They don't know their plan details and I sure don't.
I don't know about medicare honestly but his care and getting better is what is really important now. At least you know what's going on and that should give you guys a bit of relief. Like GI Joe says, knowing is half the battle :)
Take care of you so you can take care of them, Kim. I'm heading to bed now but will check in on your first thing in the AM.
Kimberly my part A cover hospital I think 80% and part B is 80% for the doctor's. Tell him not to worry a bit. When I had my open heart they didn't even bill me for the 20% I owed. They were just happy to have the other covered. Most hospitals also offer a low payment plan or even no cost for low income. Also Medicaid has a thing called a spend down medical card that will also help cover medical stuff. It will all depend on your parents income, but like the other Vets here have stated the VA should take care of him. The VA here even brought in other Doctor's to care for my dad from UK hospital. Let's just hope he gets relief and get's better! My T&P's going out to you and your family.
Thanks so much, Geo. We are still in the ER bay. The first doc made it sound like the surgical consult would be by later, but now we learn they are still waiting on a bed?!
Dad has a GI tube down to his stomach to siphon out stuff and relirvr pressure. He keeps getting hiccups and has been sick twice, poor guy.
At least the anti-nauseal makes him groggy so he's in and out. What a miserable night for the poor guy. Mom is exhausted and I am finally feeling sleepy. If they don't get a room soon, we may be too tired to drive home. LOL
I was stuck in an ER once for like 7 hours waiting for a bed. I didn't know who the "nurse" was that got me the bed, but was very grateful. I was on the floor and a nurse came in and asked who I was? The "nurse" in the ER turned out to be a cleaning lady and felt sorry for me! She had just finished cleaning a room and put me in the bed. I always wondered if she got into trouble for that.
{{{{Kimberly}}}}} I hope things have a better outlook now in the daylight. The LAST thing he needs to be worrying about is money, and what folks said above about Medicare is correct.
Being on a gurney and doing the waiting thing is no fun whether patient or family... they kept my mother on a gurney almost 48 hours waiting for a bed when she had her stroke. She wasn't even in an ER room but parked out in the hall! If I had been down there (FL), heads would have rolled.
Kimberley... Call the VA Clinic in Columbus...Tell them what is going on and that you need to speak to the Vet Rep...If your Father was honorably discharged from any branch of the service, he is eligible for medical care!!!! Non Service connected disabilities still pay NOTHING for care but an $8 co pay for drugs...Your Father is wrong, and you need to step in...He can go right there to the Columbus Clinic, and they will arrange transport for him to Dayton or Cleveland for any services they do not provide...The Columbus shuttle leaves there at 6:15 every morning coming to Dayton...
Kidney failure resulting from Diabetes is a non service connected disability, and yet the VA pays outside dialysis centers to treat these people...
Please listen to me, and call the VA... It would relieve sooo much stress on all of you...
Add my prayers to your list, Kimberly. Wow, some hospitals do amazing things, huh? Some good and some not so good...
So, Dusty, all this time I've been going without insurance, I could've been seen at the VA? I was under the impression you had to have a service-connected disability, too! I was honorably discharged from the army in '89. Do you know if the Cincinnati VA hopital is a good one?
And since I'm a vet, do you think I would get a better chance at getting a job at the DAV headquarters, just five minutes from me? I have given up on finding a paralegal job, so I'm going to search for clerical work of some kind.
