I think it sounds like you have a good idea of where your seeds are, with your shoebox and index card method. So I think, do the same thing with your flower seeds, except use a plastic shoebox, like the ones at the dollar store. I have some plastic index card seperators, that I got from wally world. They are the larger size index cards that are meant for the plastic organizer. The problem with this one is I have two completely full and more seeds on the way. : )
So I just need to find a shoebox size one that they fit inside of just right.
I wouldn't be to worried on the airtight part, I haven't had any problems with what I'm using.

Thanks Meredith, I think you're right all around. I need something a little more durable than a cardboard box, so the plastic boxes would be perfect. Plastic index cards would be a great improvement too - do they make ones where you can write on them and then erase?

And, like you, I've had little trouble with poor germination; after a couple of years I tend to toss seeds out anyway, if I haven't used them all up.

Thanks again for the tips - Happy New Year to ya!

The separators have letters already on them, but you could put labels over them with anything you want. I have found labels that come with a permanent ultra fine point sharpie and an erasing tool. They are pretty cool, and are supposed to be dishwasher safe. Just the tool erases them. : )
Thank you for all the great ideas in the article, I especially like the one about storing tools in oily sand : )
Happy New Year to you too. : )

When I collect seeds, I collect seeds!!! I store mine in Clear plastic cups (18oz) as the photo shows I collect alot of seeds per variety. There I have canna, marigold, lillytuff, coneflowers and four o'clocks. This year my cup total is about 18 or so.
I then store them in an outside shed where its cool, the same place I store my tubers and bulbs.
