Very informative, thank you. I think most people read articles about how fiber is good for you, and extrapolate that to think that their cats need fiber, without really realizing that cats are designed differently than we are. I eat a vegetarian diet, but would never consider feeding one to my cats, because cats are not preferential carnivores, they're just carnivores. What's good for me is not necessarily what's good for them, nutritionally speaking.
Thanks for the article. I, too, had looked for and never found info on this topic. I have wondered whether my cat uses chewing grass to clean his back cutting teeth. He will eat some canned food, then chew some grass then go back to eat some more food alternating grass and food. He will ask for grass if it is running out. I just go outside and dig up a big pot of Johnson grass for him. He actually appears to prefer it dry. Ive never been able to have arrangements of dried flowers and grasses due to this preference. I have another unanswered question about cat behavior. Why do cats bring items and place them in their water bowl? My cat has brot grass stems, rubber bands and also the string that we play with (which is actually a small rope). A friend of mine says her cat brings her empty cigarette packs and places them in the bowl.
