There is a story behind that picture. Fay and I were walking through Mathison Park and I spotted the kite sitting on dead twigs at the top of a willow beside a dam. It was as close as I have ever been to a Black-shouldered Kite, so I took several photos, and would have been very pleased with the results, despite the fact that the bird was positioned with the sun behind it, so was very hard to photograph.
I then took a chance on circling right round to the other side of the willows so that I had perfect lighting and the bird stayed and allowed me to get just as close if not closer from the other side. My second batch of pictures were so good that when I came to download them I discarded all the shots taken towards the sun pleased though I had been when I took them!
