Happy New Years to you too!! I still have an hour to go. LOL

It's cold outside and I swear there has to be a window open or a door open cause I have cold air hitting me here and driving me nuts. LOL

Here's a pic of a cardinal and another bird on my barn feeder. The quality is a little off since I was in the house and used my super zoom on them. lol.

It's a brand new year and I think we're all ready for it!

I've gone thru every flower catalogue that's come and made a wish list to be pared down later.

I've gone thru garden books calculating how much I need to grow next year for canning. I have pounds of food and jars needed, written down.

I wrote down all the seeds I have, flower and garden, in alphabetical order.

I have all Christmas decorations down and put away, inside and out! I'm caught up on housework.

I made a large pan of roasted vegetables, and potato salad for dinner. It's a version of stone soup. I'll base the meat around it till it's gone.

Today, it hit 34*, was cloudy and quiet! The wind blew, so it wasn't very nice out.

Pepper, my favorite bird!

Early, you have a beautiful family!

Kwanjin, that's beautiful! I feel the same way!

Happy New Year Sharon!

Ric, beautiful baubles!

Dyson, sun's up and so are you! Happy New Year!

Kelli, Happy new Year! After the snow and ice your pictures are gorgeous!

Kiska, that is much too cold!! I loveyour daughters expression and cold red nose ;o)

Hi Boojum! Welcome from me! Love the snowshoe tracks and your jaunty posture! You look toasty warm!

ROFLOL, Celia! That bush DOES look like a Snuffalufagus!! (I don't know how to spell it either.)

Welcome to the weather thread, Boojum! :-)

That's a fabulous (and cold!!) photo of your daughter, Jackie.

You've gotten a lot done, Sally! I think I'm on the opposite pole from you... My house is still a mess, and my Christmas tree is still up. Charles and the bunnies are out shopping for groceries for dinner. I'm watching football and trying to get the "Christmas" movie done. (It never ever has gotten done before Christmas... I should just call it a New Year's movie. LOL) I'm finishing up adding photos to December, then I need to go back and do some fine tuning and add the music. I'm hoping to get it done tonight, but it depends on how much time I spend turned the other way in my chair staring at the tv. LOL

Thanks for the welcome. I used to visit a lot and then just got hung up in orchids and amaryllis and photos. I am amazed at all the projects folks are accomplishing while I sleep a lot and play with my orchids and grandboys. I work at a school several days a week so I had a 12 day vacation this year! Most of the time I spent too much money and ate a ton. I was pretty cozy. But I should have worn my leggings. My thighs got cold. I forget the name of my bent over tree-it was on the property when I bought it. It would be a bundle to buy it now since it's a rare specimen plant, but I think I will call it Snuffleufagus from now on!!

Hi Boojum!!

It got into the 40s today with some wind and mostly sunny. Now Dyson Dark.

My parents and I went to Nebraska Furniture Mart over in Kansas today and looked around. We went mainly to look at a new flooring they have that's called Snaplock. It's porcelein with a plastic backing on it so you can lay it directly over vinyl or other floors instead of using backerboard and all that. It's pretty neat and my dad likes enough to see if a client of his will try it.

Pepper we had an early form of Snaplock at my old place of employment.
It was vinyl over MDF looked just like Porcelain...sounded like a wood floor when you walked on it.
VERY weird feeling... but it held up like Very well in a high traffic situation.

Kiska that's just TOO COLD!

Boojum Welcome Back!
I miss the winter hiking... just not the same w/o snow.
Beautiful shots!

Billy there's no doubt where the GKids got their smiles!

Kelli thanks for those shots!
I just love the coast there.
THAT's where I want to live.

36 here and just look at Pepper's Weather today for mine tomorrow...lol!

We started back on the FPR today.
Some more beadboard up and the HardiBacker down for the tile on the Window Seat.
Tomorrow will see everything but the Tile done there.
Still working out the design on the Cab/Sewing Station on the West Wall.

High of 36 this afternoon.
17 now.

Lazy day, sat by computer all day. I totaled all my expenses for 2008. Oh, my I'm not shorting the economy!
Finished up the design & estimate for the big entertainment center with fireplace. Sending out the papers by mail tomorrow. Then wait to see what people think. Maybe they will like it or I will have to change some things. Already know we are going to do it, just not sure what it will look like. He gave me some of their ideas & I worked them into the design.

Tomorrow we are going to finish up some small projects. 3 big ones are on the burner, so time to get these little ones out of the way.

Are those Jen-weld windows, Ric. Ours look just like those & boy do they keep the cold & wind out. With that low-E glass, we are raising African Violets in the south windows.
Looks good by the way.

They are Anderson windows. Vinyl, Low E, Argon, Single Hung.

At 20 degrees and 20 MPH wind you couldn't feel a bit of a draft.
A far cry from our last ones.
Nice AV's! Hard to beleive that's a South Window.

Where are all those tons of food going...can't find it on you !LOL You play with your grandsons and take care of your orchids and amaryllis, if this is what makes you feel best, you're doing a great job! I'm finally done with working for a few days...off from work until Monday and off from house work too !LOL It's been a crazy week again, working everyday , writing the article and making preparations for the New Year's Eve dinner too. We were alone, just me and DH, but I still like to have our dinner table look festive ! DS was with his friends, they had a party on New Year's Eve and he came last night . DD was out on the street with her BF, many are doing this in Italy, they have many entertainments there ...they also have this in Romania lately .
Here is our dinner table on New Years Eve...I was at work at noon until 5 p.m and hardly could finish all the decorations until almost midnight ...DH was helping a lot while sleeping on the coach!LOL
Hugs,
Adina

Hi Adina. How nice to wake up to all your pics. I especially like your festive NYE dinner table and Buck with ice! My DD was here for the week but took off for New York City to play on New Years Eve even though she had to ride on a bus all day through a snowstorm. She is very determined to do what she likes!! I would have curled up with my new orchid book for the day! Actually that IS what I did...

Should be a lot warmer today-high of 30 degrees F. But it's 12 now. Off to water the orchids and get my DGS.

Good morning everyone and Happy New Year!!!!

I don't know about you but we're pretty happy to have 2008 behind us ... it was an annus horribilis if there ever was one. Now here's hoping we'll start to see some improvements in 2009 ... although it will be rough going the next few months at least. The festivities will soon be over and it's back to the grim reality of things ... (sigh)

We had a lovely New Year's Eve at home. Wonderful evening although the fireworks weren't quite as extravagant as the past few years ... there are fewer people that can afford to spend big money on fireworks ... Still it was no where close to being dull and I'm sure the tourists got their money's worth ;-) lol The fireworks sales are the main income for the rescue squads around the country so we bought one fireworks "cake" to do our duty of supporting them. This year they offered three new ones : "the politicians", "the money moghuls" and "the public" so people could choose who they wanted to put the blame on and blow up on new years! lol. DH bought the politicians one, it was quite good :-)

Kelli - absolutely wonderful photos from your trip. Very cool to see the elephant seals in person, and yes I've seen photos of that waterfall! How cool to see it person. That's very high on my "want to see" list!

Sally - you are so organised! Christmas won't be over until next Tuesday so we won't be putting our decorations away until next week ;-) Great photo of you and the boys!

Sharon - such sweet photos of Sweet pea and Prissy :-) Nice table! :-)

Joey - JW is so cute!

Adina - great article! Your table looks festive!

Boojum - Hi!

Marylyn - glad your parents made it safely and had a good visit. I know you were all sorry to see them leave.

Ric - very nice moose! Hildur Eva said she'd like to have one ;-) lol

Kiska - beautiful! And the vaporizing coffee is so cool!

It's 46F, slightly breezy and cloudy. Rain yesterday. Could rain today as well.

Have a great day!

"The politicians" going up in smoke! lol

Happy New Year, 2nd day:))
Minus 18F; dark.
Mostly cloudy in the morning then becoming partly cloudy. Areas of fog in the morning. Highs zero to 10 below. Variable wind 10 mph
Fireworks are used here in the winter, too, rann. Being 30 below zero, we didn't even bother to go outdoors to watch the neighbor's display. (Getting lazy I guess)>
Good job with the photos of them. Hope the year will be much better.
Adina~your table looked beautiful; you certainly have had a busy year; nice to have watched your new home, especially.
boojum~welcome, don't you just love winter? Once it gets above zero, we'll go snowshoeing again and I look forward to seeing the familiar in a new way.
ric~you've also had a productive year and one that's been great to follow the projects as you work.
CountryGardens~Seems there's never a dull moment there-bet the new project will be very successful and there'll be happy clients.
Yesterday, while we were outdoors, two moose wandered into the yard. Minus 18 at the time. My DH w/one in the background.

I can't seem to get motivated today. Nothing going on and I'm alone for awhile. DH went off to his sisters so they could all go meet with MILs lawyer. So much to take care of it will probably take all day.

It's warmer outside right now. 45 and the snow is melting off the house. I may go out and see what I can do.

Good thing the moose are so comfortable with you and hubby, Kiska. Great shot!

Adina, that's a lovely table. We still have our tree/table up, too. Buck is so funny! LOL

Rann, fireworks would do wonders for my morale today! Thanks for the pics!

Kiska, your views are so beautiful...love the moose! It's been great for me too to share with you the construction of my house!
Bernie, in Romania fireworks are allowed, but only for the New Year's Eve and they need a special paper to sell it, but only begining with December 30!How scary about your neighbor! Many accidents have happened here too, some have lost their eyes even !
It's been warmer today and sunny again. We had some friends coming over for lunch and it was nice to see them again. I tried to take some pics of the Christmas tree lights on the dark...not so great!

People around here are always blowing fingers off. We had one neighbor, several years ago, who was shooting bottle rockets under cars through the parking lot. What an idiot! He told the police when they arrived, he wanted to see how many cars he could get them to go under at one time. He couldn't figure out what why he was in trouble and why he was getting a ticket!

I suppose people set off fireworks and firecrackers around here since they do every year, but I slept through it. I didn't see any point to staying up to midnight so I went to bed around 10:30, my usual time.

This morning it was so dark and foggy that I slept 1 1/2 hours later than usual. It has been foggy all day, which is highly irregular. We went over to the Arboretum and I'll show you some pictures after I finish the vacation ones.

Kind of weird having a UV index of 0 in the middle of the day.

Since nothing is open on Christmas, we were forced to do something outside even though it was drizzly and windy and maybe 48F. This is Redwood Gulch, the southernmost natural grove of redwoods.

Mostly clear. Patchy fog after midnight
Cold snap continues.
Adina~your table and food show how much you care. The food is picture perfect and so festive.
kelli~the redwoods are beautiful. So rugged and wild. I enjoyed the wild ocean photo, as well.
kwanjin~ "easter island" looks pretty sad; it's easy to understand your mood; take care.

Nice wide window sill for some plants.

Warmed a bit today, 25 this afternoon, then down to 10 & now going back up.
Forecast is for some light snow tomorrow.

Started a butcher block top free standing island today. Mostly soft maple & birch plywood. It will be painted white. The top will be hard maple.

Adina those are some lovely shots!
Yummy!
And Buck, I agree, is turning into a very handsome brute.
And it appears a very alert and curious one too...perfect for defending the Castle!

Rann lovely fireworks!
Kelli I've got to laugh about L.A. and fireworks.
We did a New Year's Party there and the people were scared to death to let them off.
They would light one then run back into the house.
Seems they were afraid, deathly afraid of being arrested.
I took the brick, went outside and banged away... the cops did drive by...
laughed at the others scurrying back into the house... waved and drove off...
Here in Ohio the laws are weird, IN and KY too, you can buy fireworks in many Superstores.
BUT you can't set them off in that State... you have to sign a Non-firing Release first...
then your wallet is the only thing stopping you.

Celia, Boojum and Kiska ...LOVE the snow shots.
We could use a little here!

Love the redwoods shots...well all the shots in that area.
Two places in CA really get to me.
The Redwood Forests and the Bamboo Groves at the Los Angeles County Arboretum.
For some reason the plants there just grab me.

32 (Wind Chill 25)
We might hit 45 but it's very cloudy so... .

MOOSE!
The way we got our two, and the two deer, was really strange.
We not so strange for us as we seem to run into deals all the time.
We went into The HD w/ the intent of buying some beadboard for the room.
Stumbled in to a 75% off post Christmas Sale.

We actually thought it was 50% off at first as the signs were not up yet.
I picked up the grapevine moose at I thought 40 bucks.
Robyn grabbed a box of outdoor ornaments and had them priced.
The girl said everything was 75% as of that day.
So I grabbed two moose (meese) and two deer.
They are animated.
(For some reason this store was still very well stocked.)
So two WAY overflowing carts later we checked out.

Oooo, a butcher block table, Bernie... I'm drooling.

I want to go shopping with you and Robyn, Ric!

I'm really enjoying your vacation photos, as usual, Kelli. :-)

Adina, you make beautiful food! I'm sure it's delicious, too.

Setting off fireworks in the city limits is illegal here (although, of course, people do it anyway), but it is very common outside of the city. We could hear a few going off Wednesday night, which made the bunnies very excited. Firing guns at midnight is also very common, and every year someone gets injured or killed by a stray bullet that someone fired to "celebrate."

-4 Brrrr!
It's been a long winter already. Snow that fell in November is still with us. I'll gladly e-mail it ti WV.

I can't take credit for the African Violets. Those & all house plants are my DW thing. We have lots of houseplants.

Chickens are all cuddling together this morning.
We are getting about 2 dozen eggs a day.
I ran ads in Craig's List trying to sell some.
Where are all these "Organic, Free Range" type people. I think the whole deal is all blow & no go.
I have had 1 call & the guy wanted fertile eggs to hatch.
That's why we don't get concerned about being organic in our garden. Out of the thousands the come to market, we get very few requests for it. A total of 4 last summer.
Farm freshness must not concern people either. Otherwise we would get a lot more people at the market. Mankato has 45,000 people. We get lots from surrounding area, so many Mankato people don't show up.
In 2007, market manager took a count 2 different Saturday's. The high one was just over 2000. That is a small % of total population.

Bernie how much advertising does the Market get?
Could it be that people just don't know?

We took down some of the window trim and reworked it yesterday.
What we saw as a good design in our minds... was a bit too grand for a cottage look.
It is though the first time I've ever done extension jams and they came out perfect.
We used some scrap 1 x 8 material and ripped it down.
Bought some new material for the next two our scrap is running out...lol!

We haven't had a winter w/ snow thru-out in probably 5 years.
Lately it's been snow...heat... cold... snow, heat, cold..etc.
The plants are all confused.
We had Helleborus buds whacked 2 times last winter...
finally got a REAL late bloom that hung on forever.
Don't even bother w/ Daffs out front... they come up around late January then get smacked.
Only the toughest survive out there! LOL!
We're growing zone 7+ plants out there now under heavy mulch.

45 here going for 55 and under a Heavy Fog Advisory.
But you wouldn't know it here.. overcast but not really foggy.
We had a T-Storm move thru about 3 AM.
I kept waking up and couldn't figure out why.
Then the long low rumbles started up again.
Temps will start (well are supposed to start) dropping after today.
Nothing like AK or MN but highs in the 20's.

Here's out Holiday 2008 shots... nothing Grand this year.. we had too much else going on.

Sposta get ice all night and tomorrow morning. Then "a wintery mix"on Wed. But today was beautiful and sunny and we replaced some plastic on our small red barn's windows that had been ripped off by wind. The window panes of this former chicken coop are slowly breaking one by one and the plastic keeps the snow from blowing in on my garden stuff. To celebrate the repair job we went snowshoeing again.

Interesting pictures, Cumulus. I didn't know it stayed cold long enough in Belgium to make ice thick enough to stand on. I heard that it didn't get cold enough anymore for skating on the canals in the Netherlands and thought that the same would apply to Belgium.

Very windy today. I am planting some wildflower seeds. I have not had luck planting them in the ground so I am going to plant them in pots instead. I've got 10 to 12 different kinds.

Boojum needs some little snow shoes!
We used to have problems w/ our collie dog Drake.
He would get ice balls between his toes.
After trying all kinds of hair trimming, etc we finally went to some leather boots.
His claws stuck out for traction but the snow couldn't get in.
Worked well!

Kelli Thanks!
I'll send you a big stick for those Geese!

Cumulus and Celia great winter shots!
Keep the cold for us please!

Well tomorrow it's back to work.
Gonna be a tough week.
I've worked 4 days in two weeks.
Next Holiday is Good Friday... but my vacation time started again Thursday...

We about finished the East wall today.
All the window seat trim is in, nails set and holes filled.
Just a little work on the trim out to go.
Robyn will start sanding and priming tomorrow.
She also got her tile layout done.
So she can start setting tile any time now.

We also got the last of the extension jams done and a bit of the beadboard up on the south wall.
Slowly but surely! LOL!

Fog will continue to establish overnight...with visibilities generally lowering to between 1 and 3 miles. Areas of dense fog will produce visibilities of a quarter mile or less...especially across the Suwannee Valley of northeast Florida extending northward across Echols...Clinch...Atkinson and Ware counties in southeast Georgia. Motorists should be on the lookout for sudden changes in visibility. A dense fog advisory may be required later tonight.

Today
Partly cloudy. Patchy dense fog in the morning. High 76. Southwest winds 5 mph.

Well the party is over and it's back to the old grind today.

Good morning, everyone.

se-eds, I'm sorry you are finally feeling better. The cardiac ward?? Yikes.. (((((((((se_eds)))))))))))))

It's chilly and soon-to-be wet here. The little bunny's school starts up again tomorrow, so the big bunny and I will start homeschool again then, too. Joy's itch is all gone, thanks for asking, Joey. :-) I rewashed all of her clothes and I'll save the Tide for Daddy's work clothes.

Kelli: I have to admit that this weather is very exceptional for my country. Last time I could stand on ice was in 1996/1997 and then I'll have to go back to december 1985. Usually there are two or three days with maximum temperatures below freezing but now it's allready for two weeks. Tomorrow evening I'm supposed to get the coldest night in my whole lifetime with temperatures dropping to 4F. It's very nice with the snow we got this morning but for my tropical greenhouse it's a real disaster. I'm losing plant after plant as the hours go by :(

Adina, no, that isn't my yard. It's the Los Angeles Arboretum. Over 400 of my yard would fit in the Arboretum.

Pepper, make sure the dial on your camera is set for picture taking and not picture reviewing. Sometimes things get turned accidentally.

Since today is the first day back to work for many people, it's fitting that the weather is blah.

High was 31 after 7 this morning.

We had icey rain Saturday. Everything is still coated. Some roads got salt. We went to customers house this morning. Driveway is uphill from either side. We got up ok, but slid to bottom on the way out. It did stop before we hit the road. Good thing, a car was coming.

Sunny all day, but not warm enough to melt ice.

Nice day in Pa. Temps in the mid 30-s, light wind. Warm for this time of the year, here. We are under a winter storm watch for up to 1/4 inch of sleet and freezing rain overnight into Wednesday morning.

I am practically well. Just feel the results of these strange medications yet. (Never had to take any pills before. If you think about it, and this cardiac event had to happen, it was a good time of the year for it. I should be ready to go in the spring. LOL I am desperately grieving the fact that I, a two+ a pack a day smoker, can never smoke again. I feel I have lost my very best friend but understand that will change - someday.
What beautiful pictures from Belgium, Cumulus - and I am enjoying the others as well.

Good morning everyone and belated HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you. I wish each of you a blessed 2009!
I've been away at my daughter's house for several days and I am way too far behind to comment on everything but I have read the posts and I am loving all the pics.
I will say that I am glad you are doing better Se_eds!
Boojum, that "Snuffleupagus" (I'm an expert on Sesame Street thanks to the grandkids when they were younger) is really something. Maybe you could call it "Snuffy" for short! LOL
Adina, you should open a restaurant--everything looks so good---and pretty!
Celia: hope Darrel and his siblings have taken care of the legal things associated with your MIL's passing. I'm still hassle-ling (sp?) with the ins. co. over Buddy's life insurance. Hopefully, the people at the bank will send the ins. co. what they need today.
I'm glad all that frozen precipitation is mainly up in the northern reaches of our world. We had maybe 1/8 inch of ice last night and the schools are closed all over the state!!! That's southerners for you! LOL Traffic is moving quite well on my road but I am sure some of the county roads are still frozen over--which is why the schools are closed--the buses can't get out there on those roads.

We are currently at 33 with a high of 41 forecast. Supposed to get up to 60 by Thursday! This yo-yo weather is hard on everyone!

My "little man Friday" is currently sleeping on his pillow. He is like having a very energetic baby around--plays really hard and then falls out on the floor fast asleep. He puts everything in his mouth that he finds on the floor. I've had to remove all the door stoppers from the baseboards because Friday eats the rubber caps off them. LOL Also, all my house plants are currently living in the whirlpool tub so Friday can't eat them. I have discovered that I gave Friday the wrong name--I should have named him "Stinky"--he is very good at fumigating the house--no bugs around here!!!! LOL

You all have a good day. I'm off to lunch with a friend in a little while.

Mau, very good to hear from you again. We missed you but I was assuming it was computer problems. (How is it, BTW?) No, we don't have the legal issues dealt with. There is WAY too much to handle is a short time. It's will probably be 4 months to a year before things are settled. Maybe longer. Friday sounds like a bundle of fun! I love the schnauzers.

Marylyn, your bunnies probably had the same look Darrell gets when he has to go to work. LOL

Sharon, I'll make deal with you. You send me some heat and I'll send you some snow! Pea is having fun with Jeff. How cute! Cardinals would be welcome here. Could you send some with the warmth?

Kelli, I love your pictures! So pretty and needed right now. Everythings white or grey here.

Adina, LOLing at Buck! They're such helpers, aren't they?

Bernie,..."the big one"...AH HA HA HA That was good.

Kiska, Lots of snow was moved at your house. WOW!!!

Seeds, happy thoughts being sent your way. It's hard quitting, I know. Harder for some than for others. Funny you should say it's liking losing a friend. That's what it felt like for me. Darrell started again after the troubles with his mother. I even slipped after several years and had one the night she passed. Take comfort in knowing it can be done and you'll be better for it.

Cumulus, Love the falling down pic the best! LOL

Cumulus, your -10 makes my 35 sound like a heat wave! BRRRR!!! What kind of heat do they use in the homes in Belgium? Wood, electric, natural gas?

45 deg. below?? Oh wow, kiska - makes this zone feel tropical. Up to 28 deg today and very grey. We are slated to get 1/4" to 1/2" of ice from freezing rain and sleet this evening, tonight and tomorrow morning. Our earth is cooling itself and destroying bugs, fungi and other unwanted pathogens. What a neat thing to do!

Marsue/ mysharona: it was cooling down from 20F to 10F in less than an hour around sunset, but suddenly there were clouds coming from the north sea, causing the temperature to stop falling. We went to 7F in my village (Londerzeel). A few miles more east from my place there were no clouds so the temperature dropped to around -4F overthere. In Germany (not far from here too), it went to -15. Next days will be much hotter again wit temperatures rising to 25-30F. Still very cold for this place, though.

This means that I'm not living in zone 8b, but in a 6a, but does it counts if those temperatures are only reached once in 50 years or so?

Here in Belgium we heat mostly with natural gas, sometimes with kerosene. In my greenhouse I use a soapstone woodstove to keep it above freezing, but it didn't managed that last night. I'll have to buy new plants if I want to see something growing in the garden next spring, I'm affraid...

Good morning!!!

Brrr, Cumulus! I'm so sorry about your plants in the green house. :-(

Assuming our weather is headed for you as usual, Sharon, you will be enjoying some cooler air very shortly. It finally stopped raining last night, and the sky cleared, so it got quite nippy. Nowhere near Kiska cold, of course, but cold enough to pull out the little bunny's thick coat with a hood instead of a little jacket. I'm sure the coat will ride home in her backpack instead of on her back. :-)

Back to school day went fine, Kiska. Thanks for asking. :-) We had a recreational therapist come in yesterday morning and do a preliminary assessment of the big bunny. She's going to be working with her for an hour every week to help her communication and social skills improve. She said several times that she was glad we were homeschooling Joy as she would have trouble coping in a classroom situation. It was nice to get independent affirmation that we are doing the best thing for our bunny. :-) We're going to ask her to assess Katie, too, later this year, just to get another opinion on what to do with her next year... We don't know if she will be home with us or in school in the fall. (Both of the girls are mildly autistic. Katie is in the public school Pre-K program because her speech is delayed. It's a fabulous program, and we've been very happy with her progress there. :-) Next year she would either be in regular kindergarten with speech therapy on the side, or in special ed kindergarten, depending on the school's assessment of where she is. Right now she can read 1st grade level books, can count backwards from 200, can write and spell well above her age level, etc, so she doesn't need special ed for scholastic reasons. She just has trouble turning the words in her head into speech. Our insurance doesn't cover speech therapy for kids over age 6, so it's all very complicated. Prayers are always welcome!!)

We have sunshine today--hooray! It's a welcome sight after several days of overcast skies. Our high today will be in the mid-50's if the weatherman is correct in his predictions. Very welcome after the last couple of days of below freezing temps.

Friday is protesting the fact that I have shut him up in the computer room with me. He wants to get out so he can run through the house or maybe he needs to go outside.
Here is a collage of him "helping" me retrieve something from the printer whereupon he promptly "shredded" it for me! LOL I better go and take him outside.
Have a good day everyone!

Marsue~I've been wanting a shredder, but would have to rethink your "brand":)) pretty cute, from here...
MarylynT_X~It's good to know that the programs are workable and that you have help along the way. Home schooling is certainly the way to go, in many cases, and I think anyone that takes on the job, is to be commended.
MySharona~glad you're looking forward the rain/wind ~ it actually sounds very nice as long the wind is not out of control:) Love the bird/bath.

It's getting warmer here, but they say it's going to get freezing again. There is the danger to have no gas at all because Russia has turned off the gas which was sent to Ukraine and also to us and rest of Easter and Middle Europe. Ukraine has a huge gas bill to pay to Russia and everyone else has to suffer now...I hope it doesn't come to this!

Looks like the plants near the woodstove and those put around the water tank with aquarium heater will make it, but there's still a lot of damage though. Begonia Rex 'pink champaign' some Streptocarpus and desmodium gyrans are definitely lost, most of the Coleus plants too (luckily I moved the rarest ones inside) and the aeschinanthus marmorata, ficus and passiflora are dropping their leaves. Erythrina crista- galli is damaged in stems and branches. The Hoya australis I got from my mother before she passed away looks really bad but maybe theres a small chance it will recover. Outside the greenhouse there seems to be leaf damage on my 'hardy' palms (trachycarpus), arbutus and feijoa plants. That polygala plant I talked about earlier in this thread is still flowering as if it's midsummer though...

Cumulus, I'm sorry to hear that you lost some plants. Don't be in any hurry to get rid of what looks dead, though. We had a freeze a couple years ago and some things looked dead but they did come back and in some cases it took months.

Marylyn, my prayers for the bunnies, that life goes well for them.

Nice day here, though it wouldn't hurt if we got some more rain. Nothing in the forecast, though.

I'm glad you guys like the Arboretum pictures. I've probably been there about 100 times, no exaggeration, so sometimes I think that I shouldn't bother taking my camera, but I always find things to take pictures of for my "peeps". (To DH, I call you guys "the peeps". To those of you outside of the U.S., peeps is short for people. It's a slang term that I think may have come out of rap music. It may be an out-of-date or "uncool" term by now, I don't know. By the time stuff like that gets to me, it usually is.) Anyway, some more Arboretum pictures - mandarin duck.

Kiska, when I saw the thumbnail of your photo I though I was looking at a fruit tree in blossom but was I ever wrong! LOL
Celia: when is Monty going to start giving relaxation classes or is he too relaxed to take on a chore like that?
Adina: I, too, heard about the natural gas crisis over there.
I certainly hope that they don't cut off the supply completely!
Cumulus: you will have to give us a lesson in how to pronounce the names of all your plants! LOL
Kelli: even as a grandmother of teens, I don't pretend to know all the latest slang. That is a beautiful duck!
Sharon: I know that when Friday starts circling it is time to take him out but sometimes he will go and sit in front of the back door. Sometimes he needs to go and other times all he wants to do is play in the grass and chase the leaves.

Today we had a lovely day in the mid-50's and the sun was shining. More of the same tomorrow. :o))

Friday has discovered that he can look out the window in my office.

After reading about all the really cold temps that some of you are experiencing, I am almost ashamed to say that we are heading for a high of 62 with sunshine today! Almost, but not quite! LOL

Sharon, I am confused. Is pea's real name Sweetpea or Peanut? Either way, she is too cute for words but I am afraid I would step on her. I have a hard enough time not stepping on Friday.--he is constantly under my feet!

Adina: Buck is really cute, too, but I imagine he can go through the puppy chow in a hurry! LOL

Kiska: the ice trees and ice bubbles are really neat. Next time it gets below freezing here(which shold be next week), I am going to try the bubbles.

Ric: the window seat is really nice. I like the brightly colored cushions, but you can keep the ice and snow! LOL

Marylyn: it seems that we are experiencing similar temps. I'm not complaining! :o))

Pepper: sorry about the food poisoning--I had it about 15 or so years ago and I thought I was going to die! That stuff is terrible!

Celia: very interesting photo--how did you do it?

The weather people got it wrong--it is only 44F --nowhere near 60 and the sun is not shining at all! :o((
