I am thinking about putting a copper sink in the bathroom we are remodeling. The ones I am looking at are about $250 so I know they are expensive. My question is about cleaning them. I know how awful copper-bottomed pans can look.

Do they water spot? What happens if a chemical such as window cleaner drops on it? What should you use to clean it?

And then the biggest question of all---should I forget it and buy a "normal" sink?

I don't know the answers to your questions (BIG help - huh) but I was thinking about something as I read it.. on overstock.com they sell sinks...maybe you can find a copper there for less and also check ebay. I know I was surprised when I saw that overstock has painted sinks and glass sinks that were very nice. Sorry I am no help to you about your post.

I think the hassle would be too much. Forget it and buy a normal one.

I don't have a copper sink myself, but here are a few links about how to care for them. You might talk with the place you're buying it though, it sounds like there are a few different types of finishes out there and how to care for it may be different depending on the finish.

For me, any sink that requires you to do stuff to maintain it and where you're limited on what you can use to clean it raises a red flag unless it's a bathroom that rarely gets used--if it's one that sees heavy use I would explore other options.

Thanks for the comments. Never thought about trying overstock.com.

It would be a true pain in the neck to have a sinck and be afraid of what it would do if make-up or hairspray got on it.

We were worried about stains on the granite in our kitchen so we paid for a permanent one-time sealer. It was worth it. I can't remember the name of the sealer, but the installer had to do it. It's not something you can do yourself--at least it wasn't two years ago.

Just read the links. The first one said you had to be careful. The next one said it was easy to care for and they have sinks that sell for 99.00. What to do? What to do? I guess I'll have to worry a little more. It always helps.

The glass sinks are easy care and artistically pleasing. Some of the glass patterns are quite nice. Apron sinks are in abundence as are porcelain. Marble too. Check overstock and most stuff they will send a card to get more money off.

I think very durable -- but it doesn't count if he throws a metal fire-engine in it or whacks it with a hammer!!

Seriously, they are made to withstand a lot but - take a peek, there are all sorts of sink/materials on that site.
