Beautiful bird! Once we had many yellow shafted flickers feeding in our yard. This was the first bird that I identified with a field guide on my own. Hense, I have been "flicker" on the internet ever since I had my first pc. I seldom see them anymore.

They sure are beautiful and the ones around here are very shy. The bird that got me really hooked with bird watching is the Verdin. Plain sparrow-like little bird when seen from the back but when I saw the cute yellow face and red shoulder patches I was hooked. I've kept an orange half in the tree for them ever since.
