Thank you so much Geoff for your article on Strelitzia. We have a couple of species of this beautiful plant in our ganden. I live in the Blue Mountains in NSW, Australia and although the climate in the winter is, at times, bitterly cold this plant is surviving and giving our garden that tropical look all year round. We did plant a couple of Travellers Palms but they couldn't handle the cold weather and, alas, died in their first winter. I have attached a picture of part of our back yard with some of our Strelitzia.
