I love this idea! Many of my ornaments are suitable for year round display. I hadn't considered them as decorations for my houseplants. I tie a ribbon to them and hang them from a suction cup in the window. I'm going to take a second look, though, and see what I might add to my plants.
What an inspiration about burying your fish in the Ficus pot. I keep Bettas and I just don't like the idea of burying them in the yard. Burying them in the houseplant pot is a great idea. Do you wrap them in anything or just set them in the soil?
