we have a lovely concrete fountain in the front yard, but the water
blows out from the wind. we are in michigan, and the praraire winds
whip through our farm.

Now I understand why fountains have large catchbasins at their base.
To catch the wind whipped water! Duh!

Can I make a large fountain basin under my fountain? I am thinking
of perhaps 8 to 10 feet across and about 6 inches high at the sides
to hold the water. I can dig up the lawn to bury it if it needs more
support on the sides. But, being a lazy slob, I wish I could just mold
this whole thing by hand little by little.

any ideas on how to make the tufa waterproof and winterproof?
Thank you
Sheri
