The other thread was taking a long time to load, so here's part 2. ^_^ We're continued from here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/938420/

Pepper, food poisioning for me tends to show up in the car on long road trips. I'll leave the rest to your imaginations.

Cumulus, I hope it doesn't get down to -10F. I've seen temperatures that cold on the thermometer, but I don't think I've ever actually been outside in it.

messing around with the camera - It has a feature where you can keep one color and turn everything else to black and white. I don't know when I would seriously use that, though.

So, Sharon, I can call her Sweet Pea or Peanut and i will be correct, huh?
Celia: great photo of the reflection in the window!
Adina: I like the photo of the shadow of the flower pot on the wall.
Cumulus: such a pretty flower--let us know if it survives the -10 temp.

The clouds rolled away, the sun came out and the temp warmed up--for about two hours. Now it is overcast once again and the temp is falling. Rain forecast for tonight. However, Friday and I enjoyed the nice weather while we were able.

I actually got a good action shot. I used the telephoto lens set on the "sports" setting. It worked! That pink and blue blob to the side of Friday's mouth is his rabies tag and city license which is attached to his collar.

pepper, so sorry about the food poisoning - hope you are not part of that group of people involved in the salmonella outbreak the government is investigating. Have only read snippets about it - the numbers are growing - but no other actual information.

Marsue - what a super picture of Friday - that is a great function ( sports) on my camera too. I do not use it enough.

Slightly overcast today, but had some sunshine. Did not get above the freezing mark. Changed the filter in the furnace today. You can shake them out, wash them and dry them for reuse. It is still frozen to the clothesline.LOL

We are scheduled for a major snowstorm from 8PM tonight until 8AM Sunday morning with totals of 3-6" in our area. (Oh Yeah?) When they told us that last year we go 10" and it drifted!!!

Thanks for the new thread, MarylynY_X, and I'm honored to share the icy forest.
The below zero temps continue ~ the full moon is gorgeous tonight.
pepper~are you feeling better? Sure hope you are.
kelli~the new features are very cool. What a change of appearance in one flower.
Adina~love your cool field, too. Looks very cold.
marsue~that's quite an action shot; cute.
MySharona~hadn't realized how sensitive Peanut is to temperatures, nor Jeff:)
se_eds~ it's now nearly 11pm there; did the snowstorm arrive? Hope it's not as much as before.
kwanjin~can't agree more; just never know where or when.
Cold outside~warmer inside. (Taken a few days ago).

Kiska is sending her weather to us, yipee!
Snowing lightly now after 4" overnight last night.
Forecast is for below zero most of next week. They say it's coming directly from Alaska!

We have lots of places to go tomorrow. First going to stop at a part's house & go over an estimate for a kitchen remodel. Then go and install a countertop on a cabinet we put in a couple weeks ago. Next it's to install a bath vanity. I hope the roads are decent.
After all that we need to pickup some material for more cabinets.
Might be home in time for supper.

Adina The blanket is Care Bears. I think a friend of mine, Michele, wants it for herself LOL! I may have to buy Michele one so Pea can keep hers. I like the snow and shadow pics!
Mau Yep, you can call her either and shell come prancing. She doesnt really run, just prances like a horse or hops LOL! That is a great picture of Friday!

Thanks for the compliments on the action photo of Friday. I do believe that is one of the best photos I have ever taken with my camera!
Kelli: those are certainly some interesting features on your camera.
Se_eds: a frozen filter--that's a first for me--LOL
Bernie: have a great day! Hope the weather doesn't hamper your shopping and cabinet installation efforts.
Kiska: I agree with Sharon--that's a lovely table setting and a great indoor/outdoor shot.
Adina: you can go to my gardening blog here on DG and view the one entitled "garden path progression" to see what was in the corner of the photo you mentioned.

We, too, had icicles on the trees, shrubs and houses here earlier in the week but our warm weather the last three days took care of that in a hurry--LOL However, it is supposed to get colder today and remain so for several days.

Currently overcast with misting rain occasionally-temp is 50F.

Mau a GREAT shot of Friday.
That one needs a Frame!

I've been playing w/ the Zoom Lens/Sport settings also.
That Squirrel shot a few weeks back was done that way.
Wait till your Hummers come back. It's a must for them.
I didn't get many 'usable' shots but I'm trying for non-feeder pics.
My Nikon D40 has a burst setting and so you do get a lot of pics for a small window of opportunity.
I'm going to have a 'high seat' on the FPR roof so I can get them feeding in the Mimosa.

Adina that was quite an ice storm!
How did Buck like it?

Kiska those Ice Bubbles were a hit!
I've directed many of my friends here to see them.
They are all in Awe!
Wonder how the Giant Bubble Wands would do...?

Keli I've played a bit w/ the digital settings myself.
Like you I haven't really seen much that I would use but...
Picasa 3 has some similar ways to play.

Bernie be careful out there!

Well it's 37 and the rain has moved off for a bit.
Should be 47 by late afternoon.
We're dodging a bullet.
It's 32 and still raining up just 30 miles north of us.
They're looking at light ice then snow.
50 miles north 1/4-1/2" of ice and 3" of snow.
Our temps will drop but no freezing until the rain has gone East.

This coming week they are projecting a serious drop.
Day temps in the low 20's and night temps in the single digits.
We'll see... wish we had some snow for insulation!

Well off to the FPR... trimming, painting and pulling wire today.
Got to get the wire pulled so we can finish insulating the ceiling!

Thanks, Ric. I'll look forward to using the sports setting on the hummer shots in the spring--never thought of doing that before--duh! Good luck on the trimming, painting and wire pulling today.

Our temperature is dropping. I was outside with Friday a little bit ago and the wind is blowing which makes it seem colder than the current 43F. Still overcast around here. "They" are now saying that our high today will be 45F.

Cold and cloudy with a dusting of snow in a few places outside.

Turns out I don't have food poisoning. My dad came home early yesterday cause he wasn't feeling good either. Turns out he got whatever I got. We think we all have the stomach flu. It came out of nowhere and hit us. I'm feeling a little bit better today. Can eat and drink more. My neck hurts though so I'm gonna try the massager on it today and see if it helps. I can't tell if the muscles are stiff or if I'm out again. I can't move it too much otherwise I get really dizzy.

Our overnight snow did not materialize. We had about 2 inches today - LOL and some wet drizzle on top of it. Thank goodness. Still roads were a bit icy as temps did not reach above low 20's. It is supposed to clear off, but probably won't melt as we are expecting that arctic cold from the middle of Canada all next week. Hmmm, must be winter.
I had rested for two days and thought maybe I'd go to the local store for a paper today - but didn't due to bad roads.

Probably better for me to stay home a lot and avoid all the sickness everybody around here is experiencing.
Stay safe and warm, all.

Sun morning. Snow, snow and more snow here and the 10 day forecast isn't offering much hope for improvement with 10 days of snow and highs in the low teens and 20's on the horizon. I did some shoveling this morning before I left for the gym and when I returned I had another 6" of fresh snow to contend with. Spring can't come soon enough for me!

I've been lurking and enjoying the posts and photos. Looks like Cumulus is having quite a winter over in Belgium. And of course Kiska is having her "normal" winter.

It was customer appreciation. Usually held just before Christmas, but weather didn't cooperate. One guy cooked up wild game. I tried some elk meat. Very good. I'm not sure what else they had, but think there was some fish.

What a great website, Bernie! I wish I was close enough to take advantage of those wonderful fresh veggies that you grow! The glads are gorgeous, too!
Sharon: woodpeckers of all types are fascinating to watch, I think. I'm glad you asked Bernie what a "munie" was--I had no idea either--thought he was talking about a 'muvie'. LOL
Celia: great sunset shots--in the east and the west.
EB: it is good to see you posting again--love the winter-time scenes but I'm glad the snow is up your way and not down here!

Currently 30F but the sun is shining brightly, which helps. Heading for a high of 47 today and a high of 52 on Monday with a chance of rain. Supposed to get colder in mid-week.

My cabinet web site is;

Weather getting nasty already.
Blizzard warning for Monday.
I went to town, 10 miles away. One car was on it's side. Of course out of state, (they travel to fast all the time), didn't make a curve. Not the way home I drove 45 - 50 & didn't get passed. Wind is drifting snow across & it's making for icy conditions.

Article in Minneapolis paper today about people who hired a contractor to add on & remodel their house. The place is in shambles & contractor has run off with their money.
State here claims you need to be licensed. Apparently it means nothing. The state says they can't do nothing about it! I've always contended the state is only after the license fee money. I guess I am right!

The cold front that you are experiencing is coming our way tomorrow, Bernie, but the snow will fizzle out before it gets to us. At least that is what the weather people are saying! Your winter scenes are great and I am especially fond of photos of big red barns. :o))
Celia, your euonymus certainly is giving you your money's worth! Do euonymus usually keep "blooming" (or whatever they do) in the winter?

Currently 53 and sunny but it feels colder than that to me, due to a light wind. Friday and I went outside and raked up enough leaves to cover the bottom of the rose bushes in anticipation of the cold weather coming this way. It will be the coldest weather we have had this season.

Celia: the euonymus is very pretty and isn't it nice to have something that has color all year round? I like the ornamental cabbage that the nurseries around here use because of the color they add in the winter time--not to forget the pansies, either! I didn't get any pansies set out this past autumn but I certainly enjoyed them all last winter.

I've been cold all day. My thermostat says it is 70 in my house but it certainly feels colder than that to me. I'm going to go have a cup of decaff french vanilla coffee. :o)) That will warm me up!

Yummm... lilacs. LOL They don't grow down here either, Sharon. My grandmother, in Wisconsin, had a huge hedge of old lilac bushes. We called them "the woods" and had a wonderful time playing in the paths between them. I loved being there in the spring when they were in bloom! Mmmmmm... She also had beautiful peonies - they won't grow down here either. (sniff, sniff, sob...) On the other hand, it's only 3 in Beloit right now, and a balmy 41 here. ^_^

Great photos everyone! Love the sunsets and the big "ornament" and the ice trees and the winter scenes and Kelli's currant but especially Adina's freshly baked bread! I could make a meal off hot fresh bread slathered in butter! It's a good thing I don't bake fresh bread because I would be as big around as my kitchen table! I really enjoy eating good food--I just don't enjoy cooking all that much. If I were wealthy, I would hire myself a great cook! LOL

It's all the way up to 1 above zero.

We have pansies make it through winter many years. This should be a good one with all this snow. Another thing about pansies. Keep them well watered in summer & they will not stop blooming.
I have one patch that I set out early spring 2007. They were still blooming last time I saw them before they were covered with snow. I fully expect flowers on them when the snow melts.

Pansies don't make it through the summer here because they can't stand our heat--much too hot for them in our area. They are usually done for by the middle of June.

I went to the P.O. and turned in my application for a passport today. My passport photos are not much better than mug shots! LOL I think I may do some traveling outside the U.S. in the future and I want to be prepared.

Currently 39 and sunny although it feels colder due to a slight wind. Low tonight expected to be in the mid-20's which probably sounds like a heat wave to some of you folks! LOL

84 certainly sounds good to me, Kelli, broken record or not.

No Celia, nothing special in mind except I do have some missionary friends in Mexico and it does require a passport now to get back into the U.S. from Mexico which is a somewhat new requirement. These friends have been down in Puerto Penasco for almost 10 years and have seen their church grow from a handful of people to several hundred. They built a new building a few years back which was entirely paid for by the time it was finished. Puerto Penasco is a small resort city on the Bay of California (Sea of Cortez) and it is just four hours from Phoenix which makes it a very attractive place for American tourists to go. The last time Pau and I were there was in January of 2006. My, my-- I sound like a spokesperson for their Chamber of Commerce! LOL Here's a link to my friends' website for anyone who is interested:

Lee, Thanks for sharing :)
Belgium is not only Flemish though, there's also a French speaking part (Wallon) and a german speaking minority in the east. Unfortunately, because Flemish and Wallon people cannot agree with eachother, which makes it nearly impossible to lead the country. We are suffering a politic crisis because of this, which puts Belgian economy far behind other western European countries as Holland and Germany. Also a bad thing is that Wallon and Flemish is continuous disputing while the German faction is neglected and watching it all from the sideline.
Ofcourse I don't hate wallon or german or so, I only wish they could agree with eachother.
Just like the weather (to keep it ontopic): cold and warm air are continuous fighting against eachother, causing it to be rainy or cloudy all the time while other countries enjoy sunshine ;)

We have an extra bed here. The more bodies around the less heat it will take. LOL!

-7 this morning. Some wind I think. (Haven't stuck my head out yet.)

Stomach flu going around. Grandson was sick over the weekend, daughter on Monday, now granddaughter this morning. DW has been not feeling well for a couple days.

We are finishing up a bunch of small projects in the shop. Flea Market this weekend, so will have 2 items to display there. A display shelf for my antiques at the local Antique Shop & a china hutch we built for my MIL. Both will go to their permanent homes Monday.

Also finishing up odd & ends for the lady that is completely remodeling an old home.
We did kitchen cabinets, a harvest table & a bath vanity. Working on storage units for the bathroom & a pantry unit. Later we will build a desk & bookcase unit & also a fireplace surround.
She has some real neat ideas, so gets to be fun making things look like she is designing.
One of these days I will get some pictures. (Nothing really done yet.)

Good morning!

Sorry I've been MIA for so long, I've just been busy with getting back into the routine ... and Brithday preparations for my Hildur Eva - She's 6 today! We had a party for her last weekend so I was busy baking up a storm last week. lol And getting some perennial seeds planted.

Winter went on an almost 3 week hiatus (while Belgium and the rest of western Europe were freezing as Cumulus mentioned earlier) ... glorious springlike weather, mostly calm, 40's temps but cloudy/foggy/raining. The sun came out for the first time this year on Monday and with it winter came back with 23F. It started snowing yesterday and warmed up a bit, about 30F today. Hildur Eva couldn't have been happier about getting snow on her birthday! :-)

Now I need to start some annuals, pansies among them. They start flowering here when yours give up Marsue ;-) in June and last all summer.

Kiska - Gorgeous photos! Love, love, love the icetrees with the lights :-) So pretty! And how neat to see the frozen bubbles! Hildur Eva's been talking about trying that trick all winter and waiting for it to get cold enough ... I have no idea where she got the idea from, but I told her I didn't think it would get cold enough here ... or if it would even work. I'm sure she'll be pretty excited to see those photos :-) lol

Cumulus - gorgeous frost photos. So sorry about your tropicals :-( It's a bummer when plants are lost. I guess subzero temps are not the norm over there ... actually they're not here either! I don't think the temperature has ever gotten below 0F here ...

Marsue - wonderful action photo of Friday!

Everyone else: Great photos! Darling pets! Loved reading all your posts! Seeds and pepper hope you're feeling well by now!

Now back to getting things done ;-) lol

Hope you all have a GREAT day!

Welcome back, Rann--we've missed you! Happy birthday to Hildur Eva--she is growing up! BTW, you are probably the only person I know who considers the 40's to be "spring-like weather"!! LOL
Lee: all you have to do is read some of our posts and you know that we go off-topic all the time--as Sharon said! LOL If Sharon had an extra bedroom, I think we would all be fighting over it even if it does get cold there at times--she has some beautiful sunsets to enjoy!
Cumulus: I always enjoy hearing about other countries and their history even if it is off-topic. I think we should name this thread the "Weather and Travelogue
Thread" LOL
Marylyn: I would say it is definitely time for a new pair of glasses for you! I need a new pair of lenses myself--these are getting scratched up. I always get the "scratch-proof" lenses but after a year the guarantee is not valid and I have had these for 18 months.
Rusty: my daffodils are peeking through the dirt, too, which is a surprise because they usually don't start coming up until mid-February. I hope they make it through the colder weather we are expecting tomorrow.

Our high today is forecast to be 52F but the high tomorrow is supposed to be 20 degrees colder at 32F. :o(( I'm ready for spring(not Rann's springtime temps but the mid-70's that we have in the spring.) At least the sun is shining.

I'll have to revise the 3 blanket weather remark and make it a 4 or 5 blanket night. I'm thinking of covering the gardenias with sheets and quilts to prevent their being killed. Every now and then, we have temps low enough to kill them but so far I've had success with covering them when the temps fall to near zero. Lee

They used to run "Mud Vacation" here in the spring. Schools would close when dirt roads were to hard to navigate because of thawing & frost heaves.
Oh, yes you southern people don't know what frost heave is, do you?
The ground freezes in the winter, so in the road when the top starts thawing , the frozen ground lower down keeps the water from draining away, so creates a big old mud hole.
Things have been lost in them. Well not quite, but I saw a milk truck stuck in one that they had to use very big equipment to get it out.
Last spring when we had the 90th birthday party for my MIL, we had to change location because you couldn't barely get to our house with a big pick-up truck let alone a car.

We are supposed to get kiska's weather Sunday, high in the 30's. Then stay there for a few days.

pepper, your goldfinch pictures are beautiful. Temps below zero are cold enough without the wind chill!!
We had a normal winter day here - didn't get much above 20 deg, but not windy. We are scheduled to go low - 10 to -10 tonight and again this weekend. Had a period of a dusting of snow but our roads are clear. Coldest it has been since 2004.

Stay safe and warm, all.

All schools in the state are either closed or starting 2 hours late. From history, they will probably all close in the morning.
A number of years ago the governor canceled school for the whole state in an extreme cold spell.

Good morning!

Sheesh it's cold for some of you! I realize I've never actually experienced "bitter cold" ;-) lol

It's about 35F here, it rained last night so the snow got all mushy and then it froze overnight so the streets are a glazed mess ... at least residential streets, they've salted the main roads no doubt. Supposed to get more snow today according to the forecast. A bit breezy or blustery rather ...

Thanks for the birthday wishes for Hildur Eva :-) She had a great day. We went out to dinner at McDonald's -that's her favorite restaurant ;-) lol Couldn't have been happier. Turning 6 is a really big deal when you're 5 ... she's the first one in her class which means she's the only 6 year old in the pre-school right now and will be for the next month or so. There were a number of kids that asked me wide-eyed yesterday morning if Hildur Eva was REALLY 6!??! lol Now she wants to start school! lol I told her she'll have to wait until August ...

Sharon - thanks :-) Love the photo of Sweet Pea nd Prissy ... Prissy's expression is priceless! lol :-)

Mau - thanks for the link - beautiful :-)

Hope you all have a GREAT day!

First time I've ever seen this issued..I have the computer set to alert me to severe weather events. Wind chills are to be well below 0F. Now, I really worry about the creatures. Two of the cats which normally stay our will be in tonight.
All take care and forgive my not being specific as the rest of you. Lee

We are all still alive!
Everybody talks about dogs & cats in the weather. All our cats & one dog live outdoors. Cats all curl up in a pile on some old foam cushions in a shed. Dog lives in one of the greenhouses. He has his blankey. Never know where he will bed down, he drags the blanket around & kind of crawls inside.
As long as the animals get used to the cold they are fine. None of these guys have ever been in the house.
Chickens seem to be doing OK. Still getting plenty of eggs. Their building is tight, but not insulated. Waterers have heaters so that helps. The younger ones are in a 3 room deal. The one room has heat lamp in it. They all are in there for the night.

Supposed to warm up starting Friday afternoon. Will get in 30's next week. That's 50 warmer than this morning.

Morning All! I am hopelessly behind! But we are in the 'deep freeze' here, too. The temp is 21 & wind chill 8. We shouldn't be getting much snow since the temp is going down (36 last night at 11:00). The counties just north of us are scheduled to get 3-6" by 4:00pm today.

Thanks for letting us know that there is a warming trend coming! I'd say all the snow & ice really 'woke' you up! But now, at least, Frank won't have to get it off the roof manually. :) But IMHO it would be easier to get it off the deck. :)
Celia, Pretty Finches! (flipflops!?)
Kelli! LOL (Dyson Dark & Kelli Dry)!! :D
Rann, Tell Hilder Eva Happy Birthday for me!!! LOL Now that she is the ripe old age of 6 she knows what she wants! ;)
Marsue, Thanks so much! :D And how are you doing? No more anxiety attacks I hope...
Cumulus, Hope things warm up for you soon!
Ric, We will have the same temps as you...just a little delayed.
Marylyn, 30 would be BALMY! :D
Bernie, Stay warm! Speaking of chickens. To my knowledge my immediate neighbors have none, but my dog brought me a trophy rooster yesterday! It was huge! I was mortified...he usually just gets squirrels , moles & chipmunks. What kind is (was) it? It was black & white. It was the size of a small turkey.

Well, must get busy.

Hey bilyporter, about a month ago we had large, heavy snow flakes falling and one of the cats, a calico, started running from room to room looking out the windows, meowing loudly, pupils dilated, ears back and fur standing up on her spine. She carried on like that until the snow stopped. Just as soon as it did, she stopped all that strange behavior. I've been around cats all my life and have never seen one act like that. Lee

Is that some of the land that will go up in flame sooner or later ?

Watching "Millionaire". I am beginning to believe people are dumber than a bag of rocks.
The question was, Which town is father north than Seattle ?
Answers were. Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, or Vancouver.
The contestant didn't know!
The audience picked Vancouver by only a couple %.
The phone a friend never heard of Canada the way he talked.
The so-called expert, a magazine editor from New York had no idea.
The contestant walked. She had $16,000 & was going for $25,000.

Now for more dumb!
On Jay Leno show he did the "Jay Walking". He was asking collage kids that had voted. He asked questions about the different candidates. They didn't have a clue.
This is very scary. What has this country come to ?

Warmed all the way to -2 this afternoon.

Edited because I wrote the question wrong.
