You will dmail me your preference for colors. I will pair each of you up with a buddy who chooses the same or similar color preferences.
I will tell you which goes first, and you will then send your buddy 12 fat quarters that coordinate in their color preference. When they receive their fat quarters, they will in turn send you 12 coordinating fat quarters, not duplicating any of the prints you sent her.
If you go buy a half yard of fabric, and send your buddy half of that half yard (cut at the fold), and keep the other half for yourself... and your buddy does the same... then in the end you'll have 24 different prints, and enough fabric to make the top for a wonderful lap quilt.
1. All fabrics must be 100% cotton. No poly/cotton blends, please.
2. Should you not be able to meet the deadlines for mailing, please let your buddy know... it's just the courteous thing to do.
3, We want to see pictures of all the fat quarters together... so the 2nd buddy of each pair should post a pic of their new stash.
I will begin taking names today, and will close to new participants on January 18th (next Sunday)... the first buddy will send her fat quarters by January 31st.
Let the games begin.
This swap is closed to new participants.
I WILL HOST FAT QUARTER SWAPS ON A QUARTERLY BASIS. WATCH FOR THE NEXT ONE AROUND THE MIDDLE OF APRIL.
Whew... what a run I've had today... busy busy busy...
If you ladies don't mind... I'll update the list above tomorrow... I'm so bushed, I am almost too tired to get a shower... but if I don't, I'll just smell myself stink all night...
Welcome all my new quilters... it's really good to see you here...
But I need to have an FA meeting soon. How about my house? I am doomed; every time I go anywhere I seem to be looking for fabric. It used to be black and white but now it is anything that catches my eye. I may need an intervention if I don't have an FA meeting. Help a gal out here!
I told you, make the first meeting at my house, as I desparatly need help. Of couse, maybe Pat does since she is the one who went wild at the JoAnn's sale (but a sale is excusable and perfectly understandable). And who was it ordered 60 yards of fabric, on-line? Maybe we should go to her house first! Whatever...
I will have coffee, tea and cocoa and bread squares decorated like quilt blocks when you come and we can all bemoan our fate.
I love the card. Now when do we get them Linda Kay. I nominate Janice for Chairman as she seems to be in the most distressed state at the moment! LOL Bread squares decorated as quilt blocks? Clever indeed!!
By all means, change the meeting dates as Jaye suggested. We can just rotate houses each meeting.
I always have a list of things I need, but always leave with a lot more, and I always have to go to the fabric department, just incase they have received something new! An hour later, my list of three items has turned into $50.00 or more!
Tina I can't believe your telling on me. Shame on you.
I wanted to tell them lol.
It was wonderful. All that new fabric and I get the first pic. I was in fabric heaven. And it was a good price on sale. I just kept putting bolts on the table. I think I finished off with 15 bolts. @ 2 yards a piece. I/2 yard just doesn't get it for me. I have to get enough to get my hand in and really feel. And beside so many went together.
I usually don't have to wait on my meds. But had some new ones I had to wait on. So while I wait!!!!!!!!! $100.00 later. omg I got it bad.
BJ, when does the swap begin? Will we get a dmail? I had one of those anxiety dreams where I didn't mail my fat quarters and was standing naked in a classroom with everyone staring at me ... well, something like that. lol!
Everyone should have their buddy's name now... IF YOU DIDN'T, POKE ME.
Although you and your buddy each got the same dmail... so you know who each other are... and you may communicate with one another concerning your preferences... NOBODY else knows who you're paired up with... so, DO NOT reveal your buddy here on the thread.
We all just have to wait until the pics of all the fabrics together to see what everyone got...
SUCH BEAUTIFUL QUILTS SHOULD BE CREATED BY ALL ON THIS ONE...
Guess I'm first to get goodies!!!! Yayyyy...
Marion you're a DOLL!!!!
When I ripped the box open.. there was another box!! Ladies, she had meticulously folded a piece of fabric to appear as a box, and tied it with a pretty ribbon.
So, Maid M.. you also know the art of Origami?
There was a purple envelope with "Quilt Squad" card that somehow depicts some of us well!! I definitely am the chain piecer!
Then when I untie the fabric box, a "Purple Thang" peeked out! The card that it's attached to says "It pushes, pokes, pull..."
Bless your heart Maid M. You just don't want me to struggle with my old chopsticks!!!
Maid M, our professional :D
Yea, well... Maid M cheated... she asked for her buddy a day or two early while she was in Jacksonville at her committee meeting, and close to the best quilt fabric stores... she also knew she'd be getting really busy pretty quick, and wanted to get this done early...
We don't care... she's a doll anyway, and we love her.
And she really has an eye for the Plum and Purple shades, huh Jaye? Those are beautiful!!!
Yep, she's pretty sure she thought the swap calls for a baker's dozen..
don't make me return that extra!!
Kel brought in two boxes this evening. One is from Virginia Quilters, some fabrics I had ordered online and the other is from Marion.
Guess which one I ripped open first?
Good nite BJ!
Shucks!! It wasn't a Baker's dozen for this swap? Yes, CRS for sure. I enjoyed selecting them for you Jaye and that was a new shop I had never been to--small but oh my what an incredible selection of fabrics. Yes, I go right by it every time I go to Gainesville. Enjoy!!
Fairy1004 that sound heavenly. I never would have thought to put purple with black and white but I can picture it in my head and I love it. I can see an appliqued fairy in purples on the black and white background!!!!
Quilter-my guest room has a shade of plum for the walls and is decorated with Nene Thomas Fairirs, and the otehr colors in the room are Black, Ivory & Silver, so I think a black and white quilt with hints of the shade of purple that is on my walls would be perfect:)
Thanks Auntie M:) Not sure how much mom is gonna like ready this when she gets home!!LOL
Maid M. according to Wiki.. taupe is Grayish-Brown, Brownish-Gray, or Warm Gray color, which we are all familiar with... but there are also Purple taupe, Medium taupe, Mauve taupe, Rose taupe, Sandy taupe and Pale taupe (mouse).
I'm being A.T aren't I?? Just want to know which specific Taupes that you'd be interested in. Well, would you like me to select some Taupe colored fabrics for you instead of the LLPP?? I don't mind using the Taupes with what you got me.. it will be an interesting scrappy quilt...
Beautiful combos of purples and plums! Can't wait to see what Jaye comes up with to add to the collection. And to see how both Jaye and Marion use their fat quarters. Whatever it is, it will be beautiful.
My fabric choices have been purchased, pressed, trimmed, and will cut the fat quarters today. Your package will be mailed out Monday, partner!
Yes, you all are getting me in trouble. I made Stacey a quilt in autumn colors (not her fav), and then the duet in burgundy and jade for her room, now you all want me to do MY (I mean the guest) room, too? Well, since I love to quilt that may be on the burnner, but I'll drag all of you in to help!
Can't wait, can't wait. I've been afraid to post anything on here. I was sworn to secrecy, I think? I am afraid I will slip up. anyway this is me jumping up and down .'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'. now I gota go to the bathroom LOL.
Mom-maybe when I get ready to do the quilt, I can ask all of my aunties and special friends to send me a couple fat quarters-that would be a wonderful way to do my first quilt-does that sound too brazen??
I would want a lot of black and whites with some purples-but plums...when I want to get started I will have to see if anyone would want to send any to me and then go from there-will have to find the shade of purple online to show too...
WOO HOO !!!!
I got my FQ from my buddy... Barb (Quilter5bdsr)... OH, MY... I can't be more pleased... she caught my color combo to a tee...
I wanted sage greens, creams, and muted reds... and she wasn't sure what I meant by "muted reds"... but she hit it right on the head...
I'm so excited now to go shopping...
Oh, btw... since we ended up with an uneven number of participants... Barb and I were in a threesome with another quilting sister... you'll all just have to wait till she posts her selection to find out who that is... LOL
Hello Marion, it is so good to be back home. I got stuck in the Dallas Airport yesterday, because no planes could get to San Antonio because of fog, and today, we are supposed to have freezing rain for tonight, and maybe Wed. also!
Todd is not happy, he thinks the bad Michigan weather followed me home!
I flew from St. Louis, Mo to Detroit on Monday and missed all the mess. I hate this snow but keep thinking that I'd rather have and drive in snow than the ice some of you have. Bad news for your poor trees! Looks pretty, though, if you don't have to go out in it.
Snow again today and then Saturday. A good weekend to stay at home and sew.
I received my fat quarters today. I love them, I love them, I love them. Fleursdefouquet really did a great job with the colors and pattern in the fabric. It will be easy to match up because we have the same mind in fabrics and colors. oh this is fun. yipee.'.'.'.'.'.'.'..'.
We have snow and ice on the ground here. I don't do snow or ice. So when it all melts off I will get your fat quarters mailed to you Fleursdefouquet. Probably by monday. Thank you so much you did a wonderful job. Did I say I LOVE THEM? I do I do.
This is the fat quarters Fleursdefouquet sent to me.
Glad you like them, Darlene. To be honest, I wasn't too thrilled with what I found. Went to two different shops but wasn't finding what I thought I was looking for. These swaps are fun - BJ had a great idea. Stay safe - don't feel rushed on my behalf. Would rather you stay inside and safe until spring than out there on snow and ice risking your life for fat quarters!
Muted Reds are reds that are not bright red... toned down, and darker than bright red. I don't know... that may have been a color my sister made up once, because I heard it from her. I think she does that a lot.
I know she told me she wanted a PUCE rug once... still don't know what color that is.
Debra does have excellent taste in choosing fabrics... Darlene, you really scored. Now, the fun of finding coordinating fabrics when the weather clears.
English term or phrase: puce
English translation: dark red/purplish brown
This is what I found on the oxford dictionary.
Good night eveyone. getting a good nights sleep for my drive tomorrow.
Sleep tight everyone.
Yes I will find ways to use them. already got my thinking cap on. I looked at our fabric for hours last night.
2 of the pieces of fabric I already had. Thats ok we were on the same right track lol. I already have the fat quarters just need to look one more time. The fabric I already have for this swap is really matching nicely. I love the way everything is coming together so good.
PUCE pretty color ulgy name lol.
how do you shop for a certain color such as rusty red or mute red when you don't have anything to go by or compare too?
Don't you love it when your fabric stashes come together like that?
Darlene, I think that muted red would include anything like NOT bright red or lighter... has to be anything from slightly darker to a lot darker from bright red... and rusty red I think would any red that's got some orange in it. I could be wrong, but that's what I would think... anyway.
Got all my fabrics together now... just waiting for the address... she's not in the exchange... so just looking for the dmail reply...
HURRY... heading to the post office today, and hoping to get them in the mail.
Beautiful fabric! I hope I can choose as good with mine!
Girls, it finally got above freezing here! 33* SE Mo. which is about 30 miles from me, has been declared a disaster. The worse ice storm in memory. It's horrible. Millions without power and water. Haven't heard from Wayne this morning, he's supposed to come over and clean up, since he has no water! I know he's OK, his phone was busy at first.
We went thru one of them ice storms last year. Was out of electric for a week no water on nothing it was terrible. Glad I have a fire place a real one. And last year we got a generator. So hopefully we will be prepared. I have been filling my bathtup with water. and pitcures with water. just in case.
ice still melting. thank God.
I got my fat quarters today and they shuld go in the mail this weekend. I too had a hard time with one of the colors. You can picture the color in your mind but when you try and tell someone it gets lost in the shuffle. For the Winter Block I said I wanted stonewashed blue; I had that light sky color blue you get when you have washed blue denim over and over. Not dark but not pastel. We'll how was anyone to KNOW that was what I wanted when all I said was "blue"?
Also, it is hard to know if people like florals, traditional fabrics, bright and wild, batiks, etc. Maybe we have to give some of these preferences when we give BJ our colors next time.
Janice, one of the things I like about the fat quarter swap is getting fabrics I would not have chosen myself. Kind of expanding my horizons, ya know? I need a little push (big kick in the rear, actually) to try things outside of my usual comfort zone. I usually like florals and traditional prints in muted tones but if I get something bright and contemporary it makes me think outside of my box. Guess what I'm saying is, for future reference, I won't be too specific about what I'd like - will be thrilled with whatever my swap partner chooses. Probably happier with their choices than if I'd picked them myself!
I agree with Debra...
In the last swap I did receive some really wild and bright prints... Not to name names here... but Tia Tina sent me those prints... not something I would have chosen... HOWEVER... the more I look at them, the more excited I get about using them... my mind is wrapping around a really fun project ... and now I'm so glad she sent me those...
My horizons have expanded, and I thank her for that.
Get ready Debra I AM Tina's Mom LOL.
Realy I like the surprise of getting something different too. But at same time knowing someone else has same likes of colors as me.
bj you have done this so well. It is fun.
Debra I have all the fat quarters now. I went to hancocks yesterday and found a few more that I (we) couldn't live without LOL. I am really pleased with them.
But I could go on and on with the color selections.
I have them ready to send just have to get into town to get them mailed. I will do that soon. I'll let you know when I send them. Hope you like them.
Tia got them here at my house. She almost didn't make it home with them. LOL. Some of her mail comes here because it is secure.
And then she (Tia) went to shopping at my house for fat quarters!!! She found some then took off home before I could hide her fat quarters.
You did good Cindy.
I think a lot of us don't know how to count LOL. or we don't know when to stop sharring.
I hope my buddy gets her fat quarters soon. I am anxious for her. Hang in there Debra they will be there soon.
This FQ swap all the fabric is going into a baby quilt bumper pads and diaper bag for my daughters baby. My daughter does not want pink for girl or baby blue for boy type things for the baby. I really loved the fabrics and the colors and I think she will like it also. Thanks Cindy. And thanks Brenda for holding this. Looking forward to next one. Cindy yours will go out today.
Darlene, I got your sweet note yesterday. Hope to get the fat quarters today! So excited about the one that came all the way from Switzerland! It's so humbling to be a part of this so very generous group. BJ gave me one from her grandmother's stash and now you are sending one from Switzerland. I'll be at my quilting class until late afternoon but will be anxious to check the mailbox once home.
Audrey's fat quarters went in the mail on Wednesday and now all I have to do is wait to see if she likes them. I hope so as I had fun shopping the large three rooms of SALE fabric at my local quilt hangout.
Would you believe 4 months agao I had only 1-2 pieces of fabric and now I have a whole cabinet full? Between quilt blocks, fat quarters, and T-shirt quilts I now can run my own fabric store!!
I am posting this to the right place I hope, I tried once but didn't see my fat quarters. But I love them!! Thank you and sorry I was so slow to post them. My buddy will get hers tonight if she shows up at quilting!!
Well, after several tries, I see my fabric. Do you have to have a brain to be in this group, because I think I lost mine from being unemployed!! I love all the fabrics everyone is receiving. Have a great day!!
Debra so sorry I forgot to put the card in the package with the FQ so I mailed it seperately. And I mailed them together so you should be receiving the FQ soon. painfully lilbit at a time LOL. OMG I really didn't mean to do this.
Phooey - no fat quarters today either. Darlene was your card just a big tease???? LOL! Just kidding. Don't worry about it. It's twice as much fun to get two things at seperate times!
I worked at quilting class until around 3:00pm then decided to stop as I was brain dead. Wasn't comprehending anymore. Will finish my Friendship Star blocks and Flying Geese blocks here at home before the next class.
I got my FQ from Ladybug last night. They are wonderful. I'll post a picture as soon as the camera is ready. She really did a good job picking fabrics. My buddies and I would have three different quilt looks as none of us have all the same fabrics since there were three of us!! A challenge to be sure.
Whoopee!!! I finally got the camera and these are the fat quarters I received from LadybugNH. They are beautiful and will go very well with what I sent bjwilson. The three way swap worked out just fine. Thanks Brenda and Thanks G.
I don't remember where I got that from, we were on a shop hop or something. Barb I think it was from the shop in Plymouth NH on TennyMountain Rd. I believe she use to Tie groups of fabric, and the tag on it was a Blue house. I'll try and get some more info for you. Ladybug
Darlene - no fat quarters in today's mail either. Not a problem for me, but I'm getting concerned that your package got lost. Is there any way to trace it? If it was mailed the same day is the card it should be here by now. Would hate for you to go to all the trouble then it get lost.
I'm concerned too. I am going to check it out. If you have not received it by wednesday I will remail same fabric. I hate that it hasn't got there by now. I mailed your FQ in the same package you sent mine in. Just put envelope with your address and my return address on it, the misstake I probably made was I just put about 8-- .42 cent stamps on the envelope That is a little more than the last package of that size I sent. post office said it would be ok. My granddaughter put it in the same mail box as card. Trying to save time. This post office is terrible here in Norman. There is only one in town and it is a big college town. so we have to stand in line forever when we go there. And they act like there are the only one in town if you know what I mean.
Debra I am so sorry, but I will get it taken care of. I am dissapointed. Because I was and still am excited about you seeing the fabric I picked out for us. And I think you will really like the fabric from Switzerland. It is special to me. I haven't even let my daught tina have any of it LOL.
Don't feel bad! I don't want you to feel bad about it - just wanted you to know it wasn't here because it should be by now. I would hate to think your fabric from Switzerland would get lost. It probably just got hung up somewhere and will find it's way eventually. No need to send a second package! Really!
I'm a firm believer in the fact that there is this little gnome standing at the state line waiting for our packages to cross... I think sometimes he intercepts them, and tries to deliver them himself... on foot... come rain or shine...
He's probably somewhere around Fort Smith, Arkansas about now, making his way down I40 toward Ferndale... he's running as fast as his little legs will let him... so, please be patient.
Bought my fat quarters today! I had a ball! They'll go out tomorrow by UPS. They'll get there in three days.
BJ, I got just under 12 yards of flannel! I had as much trouble choosing it as I did the fat quarters! I had to explain "fat quarters" to the lady who cut them, she'd never heard of them! I'm going to layer 3 squares, do you think I got enough? For a full size coverlet??
I mailed my box out to my FQ buddy today..This took a job to remember how to mix and match closely..lol..I am getting better at this..
I also found my grandma's wooden quilting frame which can hold up to a kingsize quilt which I can barely remember it hanging from the ceiling in my sewing room..The hooks are still in the ceiling..lol..
You guys (ladies) are to funny. But I have to add, if the gnome is traveling to AR, and that is Arkansas, then you better remember to give him a blanket also, because it has been very cold and icy in Ar lately. Hope I have the right state for AR
Now, can everyone please be sure to post your fq because I am so excited to see them all.
This has been a very fun group to be part of. And Barb, don't take this as a negative, but next time I hope to have a buddy from another part of the country. You have a great eye for colors but I'd like to see what is in the rest of the country or world!!
Lady bug... that's why most of us want to trade with each other ... to get fabrics for other parts of the country... BUT... since I wanted the same colors as Barb, and you were the last join... I grouped you with us... I did notice that you two were close geographically... and I'm sorry about that...
Next time, I'll try to do better for you.
I understand what you said G, I too would like fabric from somewhere else. That being said, I was trying to not make anyone else wait for their FQ since you and I live so close.
I'm the only one who didn't get them from "far away" and I also thought it would save you postage. Yours did come from Texas didn't they?
My fat quarters finally got here! Wonder why it took that package a week longer to get here than the card mailed the same day? Weird.
I am thrilled with them! Thank you Darlene. You did a terrific job of choosing coordinating fabrics. I'm guessing the pretty turqoise with cute flowers came from Switzerland? The whole pack was wrapped in that fabric and was so cute. Wish I'd thought to take a photo before removing it.
The dragonfly print caught my eye too... they're all very pretty... but I do count a baker's dozen again.
I'm telling you all... it's the little gnome that snatches our pressies at the state line that held up your delivery... he hand carried it all the way to your house Debra... his poor little legs must be plum wore out by now.
I'm so relieved you finally received the FQ's
BJ I told you there are a bunch of us on here that don't know how to count, or maybe is the gnome. LOL. (the little booger)
Debra the fabric from Switerland is the white with little red flowers, the one on the far right on bottom. When I saw the dragonfly fabric I (we) couldn't resist. It was something we couldn't live without. and the turqoise is just somethime I wanted to share with you just because.
This has been fun exciting and anxious. I have much enjoyed it.
Debra you have been a good buddy and
BJ you have done an exelent job hosting this and getting our colors right. Thank you.
That dragonfly material caught all of our eyes. It is so different. Maybe we need a swap of blocks or fabric with just little bugs and things; ladybugs, dragonflys, beetles, frogs, that type of thing. I have seen so many cut ones lately and they are just what each garden needs.
lol wouldnt be there today, if it was id fall over with heart failure to the swiftness of our post office. MAYBE just maybe tomorrow. I did do confirmation on EVERYTHING that was mailed yesterday. And will do so on anything I mail out again. I am telling you I dislike our post office here.
I got my fat quarter from Audrey and they are great. She also included the valentine swap with it so I had two surprises in one.
Sorry I can't show a picture right now. I am having computer problems and may not be on for a while. I have to take it to the puter doctor.
Thanks again, Audrey just wanted you to know I got them and liked them all. show as soon as I can.
My FQs from Linda-tater55..this will be the start for my quilt project for my livingroom which is dk gold and blues. I will take these with me and find more FQ to finish this project..THANKS!! so much for the pretty samples to start with..
Linda- you should have gotten yours by now..The lady at a quilt shop picked them out since I couldnt get the hang of the color schemes yet for quilting..
Ladies, one of my neighbors has a machine for sale. I went to look at it and it's an old "New Home" made by the Janome Co.! It's really old, it's straight stitch. They're asking $25.00 for it. It sews good, the bobbin is a little tight, but I know how to fix that. The pressure thingee doesn't work, but I think a good oiling and cleaning would straighten out what few kinks there are. What do you think? Is it worth $25.00? I might could talk them down. I've always wanted one.
I'm doing better! Finally got over the crud! I heard there's an epidemic of it here. Saw my orthopedic guy today about my knee. I have 2 tears in the cartelage, one of them is big. I have options, wait and see, scope repair, partial knee replacement, or total replacement. I'm waiting, since it's a little better. Then I'll go for the scope.
Will just any fusible work for a table runner, or a quilt? I think they're so pretty, I just don't have patience to sew one!
Yes, table runners can use a low loft batting in them. There are fusible ones on the market--have used them in a "quick cathedral window pattern before. I know Joanne's carries them but not sure about WalMart. Great stuff for smaller projects ie: placemants, runners, coasters bags --I think you get the picture.
