Thanks for this article! Glad to see the CSA movement getting more exposure.

I was thrilled to join a CSA when I first found one I could connect with. This was years ago in Santa Cruz CA and I lucked out that it was an excellent one in every possible way. I continued to subscribe to their online newsletter for years after moving out of the area because Farmer Andy wrote such fabulous articles about vegetable farming in sustainable practice; a very knowledgeable and literate man, he!

I only purchased a half share because I am a singleton and yes, one issue was the sheer amount of produce! However, I managed quite nicely and was able to give things away easily if I could not use them and found the food sufficiently cheaper than grocery store that that was easy to do. I loved the surprise factor also and learning to cook and eat new things. I could tell the quality was far superior to anything available to me otherwise except what I grew myself. The newsletter always contained excellent recipes as well so that resource helped in using the produce.

I was delighted to be able, as a single person living at near poverty level, to support what to my view is one of the most intelligent ways to produce and distribute food -- so I was willing to accept some risk for that purpose. And truly, the quality of the produce was sparkling! Heck, I still miss my old CSA! LOL!

Thanks again!

To find a CSA near you this link is handy:

There is one near where I live now but I have not yet checked them out, though I plan to do so in the spring.

Thanks for writing, Kyla! As I pointed out, though, a popular CSA can be sold out by February!
