Carrie, sorry you had such a lousy experience. I did too. Twice. First time the cause was poor harvests due to a cold, wet spring. Next time was simply a poolry managed operation. I would try again if I could find a share at one of the highly regarded CSAs in this area, but last time I checked none was offering shares to new members. I'll look on the bright side: there is demand for shares in a well-run CSA, and that's great because it's a great concept, one I want to support. Thanks for the tips on how to sort out the good from the bad. If I find a good candidate, I might just try again.

I'm sorry YOU had a bad time, too. Yes, it is a great concept, and my husband recently agreed to try oatmeal for breakfast (wonders will never cease!), so perhaps by the time there is a good CSA in our area we can join again.

Again, it seems crazy, but for the great CSAs, now is the time to be doing your word-of-mouth research! Yes, January. The best ones will be full by February!
