You can go to http://www.thesage.com and calculate the lye, and liquids for those recipes that yafa gave . I prefer making a "Castile" soap which is 75% olive oil in the base, with coconut oil also. An all olive oil soap never lathers for me, and the coconut helps it lather well.

Just don't go over 25% of the coconut or pk oils in your olive oil soap, you can use l00% olive oil, but It's just not lathery . Great for baby's bottoms though .

I tried a 100% olive oil soap and when it was cured, it was hard as a rock! You're right, no lather, just kind of a slime.

I wonder why coconut oil used straight, on the skin, feels so moisturizing - yet too much in a bar of soap makes my skin feel drier?

Good question Here's a link that shows the oil properties and how much to use in your batches of soap and what each oil is good for in soap making, it does say that too much coconut tends to dry out the skin when you look at the coconut oil on this link,

but doesn't say why.

uh - because saponified coconut oil isn't an oil any longer - its soap.
