I'm looking for some input about the causes of overfiring on my Vermont Castings Ecore (non catalytic). I have been unable to control the burn rate even when stove is banked down (air control closed) and flue is closed. I checked all my gaskets and found one leaking a good amount of air- fixed this but the stove temp still runs away ( 700deg.). When I cleaned my flue last year, I may have damaged a piece of what I believe is called th Air fountain . This soft material is exposed where the flue collar screws to the stove back and the chimney brush broke a few inch pieceof this off. I dont know if that is enough to affect the stoves air intake/burn pattern. Luckily, I woke up one night and smelled the stove and heard the cast iron expanding (not cracking thank the stars) and was able to put a fireproof glove in the 3" air uptake under the stove which darkned it down. I was getting ready to put a dry chem extinguisher on the fire. As a NYC firefighter, I have seen the devastation repeatedly of house/apt. fires, stoves are great- but be careful they can be real dangers.

I feel that Vermont Castings is one of the finest stove makers out there. I also feel you should be talking with them. Over the years I have had two Vermont Castings stoves both of which operated properly. I've used them for more than thirty years.
