I just discovered a new way to kill unwanted bugs on my Coleus plants, and I wanted to share that with all of you.
It should work for all kinds of bugs: aphids, mealy bugs, spider mite, etc.
Just take your infested coleus plants and put them together in an air tight box. Next, put a candle in it and light it. The flame will consume all oxygen in the box untill only carbon dioxide is left, and it will estinguish itself. Then you let the box with Coleus sit overnight. The bugs will die because they cant breathe anymore without oxygen and only carbon dioxide around them. The Coleus will survive because they will even grow better if they get carbon dioxide.
Take the plants out of the box next day and the bugs should be dead. Repeat after one or two weeks to kill remaining bugs from eventual eggs. If you use a big box with many plants, you can use multiple candles to speed up the process, or eventually an alcohol stove or something. Ofcourse you must prevent the box from catching fire.
Success!
