I've always had some confusion between the holiday cactus, and this article helped clear up some of it. Thanks! Where do the Thanksgiving Cactus fit in, and which plants does that common name belong?

that's a Schlumbergera as well, but may not be the same species (the Christmas cactus is a hybrid species of Schlumbergera... not sure about the Thanksgiving cactus)

Thanks! I've never been able to figure out if Christmas Cactus and Thanksgiving Cactus are both common names for Schlumergia truncata. I'll keep trying to figure it out.

"Christmas Cactus" is Schlumbergia x buckleyi ( Hybrid of S. truncata and S. russelliani in 1840.

'Thanksgiving Cactus" is Schlumbergia truncata.

Segments on the Xmas Cactus are much smoother than the Thanksgiving and it is droopier and I think there is a difference in the flowers too.

Almost everything you see in the stores these days is S. truncata.

Thanks! We don't have any Schlumbergia x buckleyi in PlantFiles, but I wonder if some of them aren't incorrect. That's why I asked, and you've been very helpful in giving me some additional characteristics and taxonomy to research. :)

it's Schlumbergera, not Schlumbergia... maybe that's why?
