Those wildly colored cacti - why are they always grafted? How do they grow before they are joined to the rootstock? Thanks for another useful and informative article.

not completely sure, but lacking any sort of chlorophyl whatsoever, they cannot survive much beyond the seedlng stage, so they graft them... however, in my personal experience, they don't last much longer anyway.
