Author Content APRILMAEMAE San Antonio, TX January 23, 2009 08:24 AM Post #6039639 i have a bar-b-q area that i wanted to build a cedar pergola above. my question is how tall should it be? it will be right over the bar-b-q pit. i want to make sure that when we have the pit on it wont affect the pergola. thanks Bubba_MoCity Missouri City, TX January 23, 2009 03:54 PM Post #6041340 The smoke and odors will be absorbed by the cedar, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. Is it on an attached patio, or in a free standing area? If free standing, suit yourself. I would go with 10-12 ft, but 8 would work.
