I recently went to Cyprus for a couple of days and I took some photos of palms I saw. In case you don't know much about Cyprus, it's an island of the southeastern Mediterranean, pretty close to Lebanon and Israel. It's also an independent country, member of the E.U. (although about 40% of the island is still occupied by the turkish army after the 1974 turkish invasion). It's a very pretty island with a really great climate for palms (and almost anything else), somewhat similar to the climate of Southern California except it's a tad cooler during winter and also it's completely frostless, with low temperatures that rarely drop below 40F. From April to November it can be really hot, with highs above 100F ocurring quite often. The only bad thing (for the plant world) is that it doesn't rain much, so gardeners must take care of this accordingly.
There are literally many thousands of palms on the island, most of them being date palms, canary palms, queen palms and washingtonias, but in the city I stayed (Limassol) there were many nice gardens with triangle palms, king palms, livistonas, LOTS of pigmy date palms , kentias, giant strelitzias etc.
Here are some photos that you may find pretty.
This is a really tall kentia growing indoors in the hotel I stayed.
