My Dad taught me to garden just like your grandfather taught you.
I still garden; can't help myself! But I think I do it more like you do than like they did!

I gardened with my grandpa, too. I remember the preparations, starting with grandpa digging up the whole garden with a fork. He used a string line but no planks. We did have to be very careful where we stepped. His rows were made with the corner of a hoe and I got to help him plant the seeds which he then covered carefully so the rows would still be straight. Every morning we went out to see what had sprouted although I'm sure it was at my insistance that we go to look because I thought seeds should sprout overnight.

Ah, this brought back such memories of planting the vegetable garden each year with my mom! We did the whole thing with the stakes, strings, and planks, as well.

Thanks for sharing your precious memories with us! I could almost see him standing there, staring at the house. . .

I really enjoyed this article. My favorites are those written from the heart and I can feel the love in this one!

I had a grampa too that gardened. He grew some of the best strawberries. But never in a million years would he have let us step foot in it...
