I have hiked in various parts of California and to see these amazing plants in bloom 10' plus sticking up into the sky always makes my jaw drop. Where can you obtain seeds for this plant? I lived in the Bay area.
I am not certain where you can buy seeds. You might try the Theodore Payne Foundation (Google it). I gathered seeds from the wild. They seem to be very abundant. Sometimes they fall on the trail and I figure they'll just get trampled if left there.
Great stately looking plant. I don't know what sub species we have but ours are much smaller. I have transplanted some to my yard and I do nothing to care for them. I also have one that has the softer leaves. Not as bad to weed around it. The others, I find it useful to use preen.
I don't like bleeding that much. lol
Don't seem to get many viable seeds though. Nice big pods but don't seem to have any substance to them.
If any happened to have any seed, I would like to try one or two more of the ones with the ( floppier ) leaves. LOL Mostly to see if they would grow here as well. The flower stalks on these are usually 3' to 3&1/2 '.
