I have not gotten into these as I read they require 50 F for the winter rest period. My basement is 65 in Aug. So I figured they wouldn't work here as I don't have it cool enough to get winter blooms. I didn't see anything about temps in either of your articles so I'm wondering if 65 will work? How cool is your dormant storage?

LMK maybe I can tack a few bulbs on to an order i placed of lilies...

thx for a well written article with nice pics:)

BTW I think we were discussing hoya incarnata last week. I found a nursery that has it for sale- but he said it was too small to bloom until summer, maybe I'll have blooms for next winter---on both of these plants... dreaming...

My amaryllis do just fine in my basement, and I think it seldom gets down to 50 degrees downstairs (at night in winter, maybe). Give them a try! I don't actually unpot them any more, they just go downstairs to a sunny window and get watered... when one decides it's time to bloom, I bring it upstairs.

H. incarnata? H. carnosa, maybe? I found out a friend of mine has H. lacunosa, which is on my wish list, and she's promised me cuttings. :-)

Have fun with your Hoya... and definitely give amaryllis a try! When they come back bigger and better next year, I always feel I got a real bargain, as their bloom is so spectacular I'd be happy if they only did it once.
