DD is turning 8 in April this year. She was about 2 pounds when born, and I have no birth history as she was adopted from India. She was in an orphanage for 15 months before we got her.
She qualified for speech therapy at a local pre-school and also attended a Head Start Program at age 3. We attend church weekly, she sees grandparents daily, and has a sister 1 year older than her that is quite smart. My husband and I are still married, and we live together lol. (how weird is that anymore?)

SO that is a little history. She has never been held back in school but seems to have struggled from day one. Of course last year is probably the first year she has actually gotten 'letter' grades, as always before it was just S for sufficient, N for needs improvement,,, ect.
She has always had some speech issues, stuttering, repeating phrases over and over, takes forever to 'get it out'. She recently has said some others at school have made fun of her 'brown skin'.
She is also quite a tom boy. She has a terrible and I mean TERRIBLE temper.
She does not always get along well with others because she is stubborn, holds grudges, ect. She is very smart on an 'intuition' basis and hands on learning. She is the child that will volunteer to take out the trash and likes to help daddy mow the yard. She also got glasses this past fall, as the Dr. said she was basically blind to anything that was not smack in front of her. She cannot spell COW. I am not kidding, about 2 months ago, she had cow on her spelling test. (like a second grader should be way past that anyway?) She spelled it for me as CAW. Then when she reads, she cannot tell you anything afterwards. I can talk to her about something very basic, and 5 mins later she will ask me some dumb question. Like I just went over that! And again. I can't explain it, but she just seems so SLOW to me, and sometimes I wonder if she is being serious with me, or just playing. It's that bad. ON one hand, IF she is playing with me, (which I can't see that, because she has ALWAYS been like this... a ditsy airhead) I would like to punish her severely for these things. On the other hand, IF she really has some sort of learning problem, memory problem? then I would feel bad punishing her or expecting something out of her that is out of the limits of her capability. Her grades this year are bad. She brings home LOTS of homework. I think her teacher spends all day preparing a lesson plan to send home LOL.
Since the first of the year (Jan 09) she has been going to a after school tutoring program, at school. I don't think her grades are any better than they were. She is STILL bringing home work. She doesn't get home until 7. I am SOOOOOO tired of this. She came home two days ago with a spelling test to study for, a science test to study for, a math worksheet and a booklet to read, That was AFTER tutoring. I called the principle the next day, and he said since it is Valentine's week, the kids got to make cookies at Tutoring instead of working. OH WELL do you really think the teacher is going to buy that bull? Oh, we didn't do our homework last night, we went fishing!?!HELLO?

OK I am sorry to rant and vent on and on, but I am up to my eyeballs with this IDIOT school. And I don't know where to start with home school or even if I am THAT kind of material LOL> BUT my biggest problem with her is that I don't know what to expect out of her or where to start because she is so uh, intellectually challenged... to put it mildly. I asked the school to do an evaluation on her because I suspect a LD. They did a few tests and said she was fine. In fact, actually I am not even sure they did ANY tests. They said her grades were not that bad yet. AFTER the kid makes bad grades for an extended time, THEN they will look into it. ? Like she is making C's. EVEN after doing all of of Mrs. Slaves homework every night?
Let's not EVEN talk about my other DD it is even a bigger mess with her. She got ISS today for another student tattling on her for supposedly saying that if she had a machine gun she would shoot the teacher because she is mean. She is 8. I know she is not always truthful, but I do not believe she said that. She has also been in trouble for lying, stealing, trying to get another student in trouble, not staying seated on the bus, talking in class and saying cheers in the bathroom. She is also not allowed to use the bathroom if anyone else is in there, because another girl tattled that she looked through he crack in the door at her. DD said she was looking to see if anyone was in the stall. It seems to NEVER end. I am so tired of it. Also the LICE. Thankfully they have only actually had it once and it was caught early. But the bus kids, -translated- neighbor kids have it all the time off and on, and I am so tired of constantly worrying about it.
She came home last summer and said Oh So and So said that movie XYZ was no good, it has sexing in it, mommy. You shouldn't watch it. ?? Like what should an 8 yr old know about 'sexing'?
She was coming down the hall the other day and her sister was in her room crying. I said why is J crying? Oh, replied, N, she is just sad because I have boobies and she doesn't.
I about died. First from laughing. DD most certainly does NOT have a lick of boobies lol
Secondly, I mean I expected this at age 11 or 12 ish> But 8?!
SIGH. Well comments anyone? I know, no one has probably read this far :)
Well, it is therapeutic to get it all out lol
