Well, I showed a picture sometime back of some greenbroken plates and some flowered plates. So yesterday...I completed a stepping stone for the garden. Like to do these as they are a no-brainer.

so did you make the stepping stone first and then put the bits on it or did you cast it all at once?

Ok, I got these plates marked down to $1.20 at Cracker Barrel today and want to mosaic the top of my old sewing machine base I got, an old singer. I am thinking of using white tile, breaking them up and black grout, the singer base will be repainted black. Any suggestions and how should I arrange the broken plates. This is my first project. How much are tile nippers, do I need them? I have five plates, but only one has the pansies, the others all match.

Thanks for that Idea, I have those tools, most of them. Can you cut with those wire cutters? I would assume you should put a towel over them and smash with hammer first. I am wondering how to get rid of the raised edge on the plate. Maybe it can be knocked off carefully with the hammer without messing up the interior.

Hi I use the wire cutter to hold the broken peice when I chip with the hammer at the sharp corners
Iam saving the raised edges for around the top of pots , I did use a peice of raised edge in a circle put it in the center the statue sits on it.
I find I am learning as I go . ----------Elaine

Ok, I got a piece of wood today for free and hubby has the backer board too. I want to round the edge. So any suggestions on what to do with the edge that will look nice but not cost a lot for the table top to the old singer sewing base? Remember I took the top of this. Today I put a piece of flagstone on top and a mosaic pot I love with a rooster on it. It looked pretty nice. Saw the idea downtown at an old house with a different iron base. But I need a bigger piece of flagstone. Mine barely fit it. I need something 16 by 28 inches. An old iron grate would be wonderful.
