’Potato Top’ SASE offer
offer has been RE-OPENED for a limited number of packs, scroll down for details

I’m hoping my article has you wanting to try this great tomato in your own garden. I’ve got 50+ packets of ‘Potato Top’ tomato seeds ready to go, for postage (15 to 20 seeds per packet).

This offer is limited to US residents. Both DG members and subscribers are eligible.

I will post on this thread when all packs have been claimed.

Since it’s just a single packet, I think I will be able to send the seeds just fine in a regular envelope for 42 cents first class postage.

Here is what I need from you.

First, send me a Dmail with “Potato Top” in the subject line, and I will give you my address. (To send a Dmail, click on “critterologist” to go to my member page, then click on “send critterologist a Dmail.”)

Then, send me an envelope containing the following:

1. 42 cents in loose postage (a first class stamp). No prepaid metered labels, please. Seeds will be returned in a regular envelope. If you would prefer me to use a bubble envelope, please enclose $1.34 in loose postage to cover the cost of a small BE as well as return postage. (Yes, my post office charges $1.17 for a BE.)

Please do not enclose coins. Dmail if you can't get a stamp right out to me for some reason.

2. A label with your address or an envelope with your address printed clearly on the front. I will use this to mail the seeds to you. I can supply an envelope, so just a return label is fine.

3. A note with your DG name and the words “Potato Top.”

Please be quick in sending me your postage & address. I will turn the envelopes around as quickly as I can once I receive them.

Wishing everybody a great garden year, with lots of luscious tomatoes!

With 52 packs claimed now (there's been a run on them this morning), I'm going to have to close this offer soon. I do have a few packs left, so I will try to honor all requests received on:

Monday (2/23/09), by NOON, EST (eastern standard time)

After that time, this offer is closed. But with lots of people growing these out and (hopefully!) saving seeds to share, there should be even more seeds to go around next year.

Happy planting!

If you missed the first round, please click "watch thread" for a possible update. I will see if I can get some additional seeds packed up to offer -- can't make promises at this point, but I will post here if I have more packets to share.

Thanks!

If you reserved a pack of seed, please send your postage etc. as soon as possible. The sooner you send it to me, the sooner you'll get your seeds. If you want your SASE turned around promptly, you must mail it this week or next week. Any later, and there may be a substantial delay in getting your seeds out to you.

I'm posting that reminder because I got 16 envelopes on Saturday and put them back in the mail this morning. Today, I received zero SASE's. Please don't procrastinate. Thanks!

I sent out multiple packs to a DGer who plans to distribute 'Potato Top' and other tomatoes to airfields all over the country (I sent him 'Wisconsin 55' and 'Wild Cherry' too, so the airmen would have more variety).

So my stash of seeds is fairly low now, and I probably will not offer more 'Potato Top' seeds for SASE this year.

However, I've sent out a fair number of packets over the past couple of years, so you may be able to find seeds by posting in the seed trading or tomato forums. Or, you can look for Doug Oster's offer, usually printed in March in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

You know I'll save seeds again next year, and it sounds like others plan to do the same. Hopefully, 'Potato Top' seeds will be easier to find every year, and it'll become a favorite tomato in many more gardens around the country and even around the globe.

Thanks to everybody who expressed an interest in my favorite tomato!

I have a few extra packs that I'll offer in the next post. At the end of next week, I may also post leftover packs from the previous offer. If I reminded you to send SASE, or if you haven't sent yours yet, please do so quickly. I don't want to miss getting seeds out to you, but I also don't want to continue to reserve a pack if you don't want it.

I didn't get any SASEs for several days last week, so there may have been a problem with my mail carrier. If you sent one and I didn't get it, let me know.

Thanks!

more seeds!

I've got another 10 packs available.

If you already got a Dmail response to an earlier inquiry, offering you a pack, you don't need to post here also.

The first 10 people to post here on this thread will have dibs on the seeds. After you post, please Dmail me for my address so you can send postage as detailed in the first post on this thread.

Please do not ask for seeds if you can't get your postage to me this week.

Thanks!

One pack per person, since I'm down to the last of my stash of saved seeds. I'll Dmail you with my address. :-)

got another Dmail request (810mopsey) too, so now we are down to 3 packs.

If I don't hear back from people who said they'd send SASE, I'll have some more seeds to share later in the week. If you got a reminder Dmail, please do me the courtesy of responding!

I'll be happy to send you a pack!

I've got probably a dozen more packs, now, because I am assuming that people who did not send their SASE and have not responded to my Dmails are not interested in the seeds.

Things are getting busy here, and I don't think I'm going to be able to send out seeds after this week, for at least a couple of weeks. I'm guessing that will be too late for planting for most people. Brigitte, I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I'll lose track of your request if you send SASE now. I just need to catch up on things here for a while. Thanks for understanding.

I'll try to post a seed offer earlier next year and have a definite deadline for receiving postage so I'll have enough time to re-home any unclaimed packets.

My apologies, but I think I need to CLOSE this offer for this year.

If your request is in the mail, hopefully I'll be able to turn it around this week.

Thanks to all who participated, especially to those who responded promptly!

:-)

Dear critterogolist,
I did sent the SASE about a month ago and it was returned to me as undeliverable.Don't know if I put the wrong address ( can't locate the envelope on my stacked desk right now) or perhaps I got the address wrong??? Anyway it was fun to think about getting these seeds, perhaps next year, sorry I missed out. Thanks so much for your most generous offer.
God Bless.

I'm sorry about that! Sometimes the postal service gets a little confused. Other times, I'm amazed at what makes it through.

I started a few plants for my garden this year, and I'll be saving seeds... hopefully others will, too!
