I would like to home school but still send my girls to summer school.
I am in MO if that matters.
Can I do that? I am still in the district of course and still pay taxes to support the PS, so is there any reason my girls would not be able to attend?
I think it would be a great break for me. Keep them in touch with the other kids yearly in case they do end up having to go back. Also it would be a break for them from our usual routine. The summer school program is not for grades. Mostly they do community activities, field trips and outdoor things. They really enjoy it, and it only 3 weeks long. Meals and transportation are provided. There is a minimal cost to cover crafts or outings. But it is reasonable.

My other question is, I am not having a problem with the text books at school, just the social environment and teaching methods. So can I not borrow the basic academic books each year from her school that she would be using if she went? Math, Science, History ect. Each year at the end of the year, I would return the books to them, and pick up the books for the following year. I am thinking also with that, that if the girls ever do need to return, the school would have a hard time not placing her in the grade she is supposed to be in, because she would have been doing the same work as her peers. I am just asking this because for one thing we are broke, and this would eliminate a huge book expense for us, PLUS I have heard of home school families that later tried to enroll the kids, and they wanted to hold them back a grade level than what they should have been.

We have a pretty good public library here, but I know some towns do not, especially in rural areas. I would think that home school students have the right to use the school library if that is the case?
