Hey Everyone:

Just checking in to see what everyone has on their hooks and needles? I am working on creating a ton of new skirt patterns for both knit and crochet.

What are you guys working on in the colder parts of the country?

Cute! I just bought some baby yarn to make baby blankets to donate for charity. I was going to use my own line of yarn, but they request that you use acrylic yarns for ease of washing for the recipients.

I have a sweater going. Not sure if I have enough yarn though. I'm hand knitting with some machine yarn, don't hae the knitting machine anymore and can't bear to trow the yarn away.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that you have enough yarn, if you don't, maybe you can make it a sleeveless vest.

I joined the raging grannies and need a shawl. The only one I have is too warm and prickly with mohair. So, I've found a crochet pattern that's nice an loopy and I'm working on using up some white and silver sparkly yarn that's been around for awhile.

Trying to finish all of the UFOs (UnFinished Objects). I've finished 3 pairs of socks and started a new one (yup, unending) and have to finish an Elspeth Lavold sweater in handpainted wool (just the sleeves) and a summer sweater(3/4 of the front and sleeves). I saw a pattern in the newest Debbie Bliss magazine and want to make it. I think I have enough Suri Merino in pine green to do it. But I have to finish what I've started first.
or at least, I have to try!

The yarn is Plymouth Suri Merino color #687. Its a little greener than in this photo.http://www.plymouthyarn.com/index.php?nav=cYarn.yarnDetail&yarnid=000183&searchcollection=000012 I have 11 skeins, enough to hopefully do this sweater (see picture). right now I have a huge hole in my left index finger which is making knitting impossible (lunch making accident a few days ago). When that heals though - needles on fire!!!

I always wanted to learn to tat. My friends mom tatted all the lace for her wedding dress and all 5 of our bridesmaid's dresses, hats, gloves, little purses. She could do it in the dark in the movie theatre and not drop a stitch!
I can't find anyone to teach it around here, but I;ve got so many things to do that I'd probably never get a chance to do it anyway...

Something I always wanted to try, I'm retired now, still busy, but a friend asked me to join her in a class at the Adult Activity Center (can't call them senior centers anymore, hehehe) two years ago and I'm still at it. 2 hrs twice a month, I can handle that.

This just came off of my needles. My granddaughter Zoe is wearing it. I think that she'll get a lot of really good use out of it. It goes with everything!

I've started on a sleeveless tunic in a red and white marled yarn. It's got cables and double ribbing up the front.

Thanks kinita - it took me a good 3 months to finish. It has 16 panels and you were supposed to pick up all of the side stitches and do a double needle bind off and then finish the edges around the bottom and the sleeves with icord but I don't think that all of that will be missed.

Thank you. A friend of mine told me about it, they have it at the local senior center. There's a book called "Learn To Tat" by Janette Baker, it has a DVD that is very good. It has all the basics, plus there's tons of places on line that give intructions. I was amazed how much is available. Thread is almost impossible to find here, so I buy everything on line.

This is my first sock, ever. Before this, the only thing I have knitted is a rectangle, about 6" by 4", all in knit stitch. I learned how to purl from a book, in order to progress with the ribbing. I am scared silly about the heel, but I have a ways to go yet...

Since this was my first sock ever (and my second knitted item, ever) I thought that the circulars might be a bit overwhelming, so I decided to try the dpn method first. If this goes OK, I'll probably try circulars next. Baby steps...

it's been such a cool rainy summer, I got started on my fall knitting projects early this year.

Cool enough this morning to wear my shrug! The pattern is one of the free Berroco shrug patterns (Radha) found on their website. I knit my shrug in a navy blue tweed, wool/acrylic blend

Just have the upper fronts left to finish on my long sleeved pullover sweater,

will post pics of both when the sweater is done.

I'm now sewing on the noses and eyes before sewing up the side seam. There's another thread with pics of those I did last year at: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/785361/

That's exactly what I want, but I'm in Canada. Have not yet found a Canadian source for it. A couple of stores sell SOME of the "kids" line, but I have yet to find that colour in "kids" or in anything else unless I go to a sport weight yarn. Needs to be worsted weight. Anyway, I reckon I've got lots to work on w/o that pink while I track it down. I emailed Red Heart last week. No response yet ...

ViolaAnn, as a Canadian living in the US, I feel your pain. ANYTIME you want some yarn that you can't get there, you just let me know and I will order it for you and send it to you. All I will ask is that you send me the yarn cost. Seriously. Do not even think twice about it - just let me know. I would be more than happy to help out my fellow countrywoman! Maybe in exchange you could send me a packet of Hickory Sticks . I am addicted to them and can't get them here. Yeah, crazy.

Anytime!

any tips? oh, where to start, lol.

You should proudly wear what you have knitted. We all have finished those garments, where, while lovely and beautifully done, look like carp on us when we put them on. Where have we gone wrong? Perhaps the size is wrong, the fabric is wrong, the length, drape or shape is wrong. Or what we are wearing them with is not quite right.

We looked at shapes and proportions as they related to our bodies. Using a trace of a full front photo of ourselves and following a few simple 'rules' we cut different sweater shapes from coloured paper to dress our paper doll. Mixing and matching sweater shape (unshaped, shaped, long, short) with different pant/skirt shapes (wide, narrow, tapered, a-line)

Definately gave me a different eye to use when looking in MY closet, lol.

I learned to love my hips, lol.

Sally's books are on my xmas list now!

happy knitting!
