Last fall we had a new surface well installed. Our previous well was nearly perfect, clear water, no smell, but insufficient supply. Our new well was fine for the first month, but now we have a yellowish-red residue which stains our porcelain fixtures.
Our cartridge filter has to be serviced every two weeks. Should we consider another type of filter ? Any suggestions!!
About four years ago we built a house and had the well put in. The house would have been perfect if not for the well. We have a lot of iron in the water. I've had to learn a whole new way to launder, clean bathrooms, etc. We use cartridge filters also. We checked into a whole filter system, but the cost is more than we want to spend. What I have found is a number of items to clean with. If you have problems iwth the whites in your laundry, try Iron-Out. Your whites will be whiter than ever... If you haven't already discoverd this, don't use bleach. The chemical combination is a recipe for REAL YELLOW! Again, you can check into other filters, but truly filtering out the iron is very costly.
Marmared, thanks for your advise. As you said, everything would have been perfect if not foe the well...
It is a bit disappointing, especially the old well was perfect, clear and good drinking water, but it was not deep enough.
At the moment we use cartridge filters too.
Yes, I tried bleach and discovered, the water was even more yellow-reddish!
I never have heard of "Iron-Out",which one do I have to use in a washing machine ?
We had some company coming around to take a test of the water and according to them, the problem could be solved...a hefty $ 4000.00 Filter system, but we too, don't want to spend that kind of money.
Swissy, we have the same problem with our water and have used a filtering system for many years. It involves rock salt (sodium chloride) to remove hardness and some other process to remove iron. I don't think it cost anything like what you're quoting, but around here water treatment systems are common so there's a certain amount of competition for customers and that may keep prices lower. We just dug a new well, too, because the point went bad on our old one after thirty-some years, and this water seems fine but I don't know for how long it will stay that way!
Greenhouse, thanks for your reply. Finally our water is clear and it is very good to drink (tested)
The 4000 Can$ they wanted us to spend, were not in our budget, especially digging a well cost 6000 $, with the soil test etc.
As usual, we were impatient. Somebody told us, to get good and clear water , after digging a new well, it could take up to a year .
It opens new Veins!!! We still use a filter under the sink, just to make sure...
Included a picture of the new well.
