This is a thread for quick tiny bits of wisdom. I've only bought and sold twice so there's always more to know and learn. But here's a bit:

ASK or find out (google earth is a good resource), if the home is near:
***fire station (good for safety but hard on the ears...we've lived near them and with the trucks coming and going constantly it makes for loud naps
***high voltage power lines, some studies have said this can cause cancer though I only read up on it briefly when I was house hunting, it was enough for me to turn down a really big great house that otherwise would have been perfect.
***airports/military base...is the home near these? same reasons as the firestation.
***train tracks...likewise.

Do you want a cul-de-sac or it doesn't matter?

Now, I had not given that much thought when buying my current place but had no idea my street which is not a direct street off a main road but rather smack in the middle of the neighborhood, I had no idea given stop sign placement (people will take the road that has less stop signs like mine!) and a middle school that my street T's into. Well, if you are house hunting in the middle of the day and the neighborhood is quiet consider----are cars parking in the street at night, find out, is the street used as a through street (in my case---getting a dozen school buses a DAY going down +++ the general public in cars)...

But on that note, you can buy a house in a cul-de-sac and in poorly designed neighborhoods the street will T off into a house. Well how would that be to own that house with headlights shining into it in the early morning and each night? Oft times a builder won't have one specific house at the end but just yard with 2 houses flanking it so this isn't a problem, but consider that.

Hmmmm...what else have I learned? We could all write a book couldn't we! So...share your wisdom!
