Unfinished Projects continued here.

Do you have a minimum of 5 UFO's? ROFLOL That's unfinished sewing or quilting projects that you'd like to get done. I read about an interesting game idea to be played with a group. You list five (5) unfinished projects that you'd like to complete then another playing member will choose one of your projects for you to start on. You have 2 weeks to complete the project, so keep that in mind when selecting your projects. It would be nice if you could take a picture and post with your list. We will offer encouragement to each other, so we'll see lots of neat projects getting finished. I'll reserve this post for the participating gamesters. New members can join at any time and we'll see how it goes.

The quilter who brought the pattern to show us hasn't been to the last two meetings. I hope she'll be at Thursdays meeting.

I did buy some popsicle fabric that will blend well with the unbleached muslin we plan to use for the background foundation. I remember that there were two different blocks. A single stick Creamsicle and a double stick popsicle. It should be a fun quilt, and will give everyone a change to make one block. That way everyone learns the pattern.

Okay, so I finished two baby quilts that I am donating to our daycare. They have chosen to support the American Cancer Society for this year. I am donating the quilts to be auctioned off and the money will be donated. I don't have pictures yet, but will be sure to get them before I give them away. I also have another quilt for donation finished, except the binding. My goal was 4 for the year and I have three done and it is only March!! With the Baby Quilt Challenge, I will complete my 4th and hopefully keep going.

That was when I was still all stoked up about CHRISTMAS and making NEXT year's even better!!! *sigh*, NOW, I'm lucky to get a tree up and put up the same old ornaments I've had the last several years. I used to change themes so that January project was important!

I slept LATE, then went back to sleep in the recliner another 3 hours and still went to bed and slept OK last night! Guess I was tired...

I got the rag quilt done a while ago and I have more quilt blocks for swaps to finish before going onto my next UFO. I'm going to have to quit joining /organizing more swaps if I ever want to catch up on my UFOs!

My goal for today was to finish some ordered potholders and cut borders for my Christmas swap block quilt. It just didn't happen. I got involved making orange marmalade this morning and by the time I had the kitchen cleaned up, it was time to go to work. I occasionally do weeding and repotting services. All around gardener chores. I love it and I get paid to do something I really enjoy. Naturally,the money goed to support my quilting habit.

I used the hexagon shape to make each of my grandchildren a twin size quilt. I had just learned how to turn photos into fabric with Bubblejet 2000 and put a picture of me and the grandchild in each of the quilts. Even with countless launderings the pictures are still pretty good. I wish I had pictures, but they are on the NY computer. I have one more to make for the latest grandchild, have started it, just another UFO.

put two hexs together with right sides facing, and whip stitch , just barely grabbing the edges of the fabric, and avoiding catching the paper...if you look close you will see I tend to grab too much fabric, so the stitching shows on many of my seams...

also there is a thread on english paper piecing with some great photos, and more info, look on the sewing and quilting forum page.

I work on these when ever somebody has doctor appt. testing etc...great take along project...throw some pieces in a big baggie..keep em' ready to go...I sometimes bring them to work also and use up some of my lunch hour...

I have put some together following the instructions on quilterscache. I think they look good. Now I am curious as to how they are backed. Do you use a regular backing or make another set to use for backing (reversible?) How would you finish the edges? I guess I'm a bit ahead of myself here but I'd like to know before I go too far. the directions I have, call for a thin batting, and a one piece backing (directions are for a crib size quilt) once all the blocks are sewn together, you make your quilt "sandwich" as you would for any quilt, baste and quilt as desired, leaving 1/2 inch of unquilted area from edges of top. then you are supposed to use the shape of the top as a pattern/template for trimming your backing, leaving 1/4 to less than 1/2 inch all around and fold the edges under,...whip stitch edges together, same as you did when putting two pieces together.

I can't remember what the size of the backing is to start out with, it needs to be bigger than your top and batting, to allow for the "take up" of quilting. the directions I have calls for the whole thing to be all done by hand. I have seen directions for machine quilting, and doing a decorative stitch with machine to put top and backing edges together. but I don't remember where ? sorry. I would have to dig and hunt to find my directions, stuffed them away somewhere once I figured out how to do the diamonds, and I am no where near ready for putting blocks together and/or putting on a backing.

I think doing another set of blocks for backing, making it reversible would be fantastic...if your into doing that much hand-work.

did you look at that other thread? I think there was some links on it to info on English piecing.

Thunder - thank you so much for your insight. I really appreciate it. For right now, I'm only making a small cirle for the center of a friends table. I made her a runner for her hutch some years ago and she would like something small for their table. I still have enough scraps from that to match. She wanted it round or scalloped and this pattern came to mind. It will only have three circles around the center so that is why I thought making it reversible might work. Since she wants to put a vase or other bowl etc on it should I use a batting? What about a piece of flannel? This is truly a labor of love since I can't do more than three to four pieces at a time. Arthritus is a B----!!!!

We can't move until at least one us has a decent job. If I get a job there first, he will transfer with the company he is with. There is an office an hour's commute away. If he gets an "ok" job, I will likely stay behind a while and continue at my job since it pays decent and we need the extra income. If our house sells before I am ready to leave, I will stay in a friends guest room. Nothing has a time line at the moment, other than "ASAP".

Thats quite an under taking Jumper! My mom and I used to make some of the clothes for my boyfriend and I when we did some "playday" competition. The price for "best outfit" was as good as winning in competition, heaven knows we weren't going to win in the events! hehehe

Good to see you jumper2. Yep it sure can get expensive. I grateful he has the opportunity to ride but he is just a beginner at this point. Yes, he's got the pants and boots and helmet and whip and gloves but that is all for now. We got him his pants and winter gloves for Christmas and I nearly died when I saw how much they had gone up in price. Of course if I had known DH would be laid off within a month we wouldn't have gone so far. I love the look of pride on his face though and that makes it worth it.

Since this is the forum in which I generally do swaps I thought I must share this with you from the group trades etc forum. I was in the Where you live" swap and these were my adventures.
I MUST share this with all of you in this swap. The person I sent my swap gift to thought she was to send her gift back to me. When her gift arrived here, I told her I had it and to please let me know where I should forward it. Well, it turned out hers was for our own Maid M. who as we all know was tied up away from home for a while. So I let Marion know that I had her gift and she had me hold it until she was done with her festival. I then sent it on to her. Well imagine my surprise when a second box arrived today from the same person who sent me Marion's gift. As this was addressed to me, I opened it. Inside was the sweetest note thanking me for forwarding Marion's gift and a gift for me for doing so. Look at what she sent. Isn't it gorgeous??? I absolutely love it. I told her that it wasn't necessary to thank me as any one of us would have done the same. That said, I'm keeping it!!!! It's like she knew I'm one of those people who is always cold and she made it just for me. I'm so thankful too.

And who did this for me??? It was Babsadventure from Wisconsin. Isn't she just the nicest ever????

I am going to machine quilt dh's leaves, so he will have that one soon, his stars are still sitting lonely and untouched in the big quilt frame ;-{

Hi Thunder, Those blocks are part of a BOM that I am doing through a quilt shop here in NH. They are part of a quilt by Marti Mitchell. She sells templates that her patterns are made from. I can get you the full quilt name when I go this month or sooner if I can contact my shop. Her system of templates and cutting instructions makes it almost impossible for a square to come out bad.
Sounds like your Mom's quilt is coming right along. I know how happy you will be when it's finished.
Must go work on DGD's quilt. Will post pictures soon. Hugs, Barb

barb that is so wild, that those blocks are Marti Mitchell, I was at the local sewing center today, and they had a new quilt on display...yup...Marti Mitchell.

some very nice blocks. and it was done in black and whites..with a bit of red.!!!!

I told them about the black and white swap, and that many of us are working on black and white blocks/quilt, with a bit of some other color !!!! The lady who did it was happy and sad at the same time, she thought she had a pretty unique idea adding in a bit of red !!!! but then she said "on second thought..leave it to a quilter, great minds think alike..LOL"

she also said, she was not thrilled with the Marti Log cabin rulers...one of the blocks .

looking forward to seeing your quilt...thunder

These blocks are from last years BOM also Marti Mitchell. I have not tried her log cabin rulers so can't judge them. Actually, I don't see a need for them with that pattern. These blocks have several different sized triangles and squares and I found the templates to be wonderful for that.

We ate lunch out and ate our lunch leftover doggy bags for dinner. It was one of the most restful times I had during my life, that was more than 10 years go now.

This trip we hospitalized my Mom, I'm hoping that she will discharge with more strength and less pain. I am praying for QUALITY not quanitity of time for my Mom. She has so many health issues and is in so much pain.

Mittsy is that a stippling stitch on your machine? or did you do that free motion?? Looks great! I have a stipple stitch on my new machine but have not used it yet, other than a small "test" to see what it looked like...I really like how that looks, maybe I need to give that a try on one of the baby quilts I am working on.

Barb, I know EXACTLY how you feel: I am right there with ya!! practice first on a scrap sandwich, then try a small wall hanging. I'm at the phase of still learning to stipple free motion...it's fun to fool with, But I have not yet dared to do any on a quilt!! just a few wall hangings. I have done a few quilts stitch in the ditch., and a small quilt with echo quilting around the design. Did you see the skeletons I am working on?? thinking of doing an echo out line of sorts on those blocks. and now looking at that snoopy mittsy did , I am thinking I may get brave enough to try the stitch on my machine in parts of the blocks, of the baby challenge quilt !!!

I have been very good at working every evening on Momma's quilt, I think I am about half way done !! today I want to do some glutton blocks, so I can send them with spring blocks for folks in both swaps. I have the spring ones all done. ;-}

I had picked a soft look for the Spring swap and a BRIGHT dynamic print for the Glutton. One day I felt like COLOR so I made the glutton one's first, not the smartest move since Spring blocks were due first! However, sometimes ya gotta sew on what ya feel like FIRST! There is no logic occassionally (OK, more times than not with me there is no logic!)

What is logic, but lack of spirit. If the spirit moves you, go with it. Every time I try to work on something I don't want to, I only end of with the chanting mantra "My seam ripper is my friend". Same result if I work at night when I am tired. This is especially true if I am using white tone on tone, I always slip one in wrong side up.

English paper piecing all by hand. It was a challenge with the arthritus in my hands but I am pleased with my first attempt. I made two of that size and put them together with a piece of batting cut to fit so it is reversible. I keep trying to convince myself that my hands will feel better if I keep using them but sometimes they just scream NO.

Barb, just beautiful. I envy you the hand sewing. I do not have the patience. I do appreciate anyone who can do it. My hand sewing is like a penance. It all reverts back to when I was a kid sewing an apron by hand that I had to rip out too many times to satisfy a GS leader. I have never really enjoyed hand sewing since that experience.

My mom will be 90 on June 16th. She crochets every day. She swears it keeps her arthritis from taking over and turning her hands useless.

That's why I knit and crochet too. Anything to try to keep these hands nimble. The arthritus creams do help but I can't use them when handling fabric or thread or yarn. So it's play for a while and cream for a while. I find if I read when the cream is on it works out good. I get to read books and all these threads on the computer too. Love it.

Well I am still stitchin away here and there on momma's quilt, I did a few new baby quilt tops, so I reckon I have to add them to the ufo list, need backs, and quilting...

I took my English paper piecing , tumbling blocks with me on the trip to Georgia, got quite a few more pieces done on that !!

I have totally decided, we just need to add a few more hours to every day...and find lots more energy, so we can get some more ufo work done!!!! ;-]

Had to add a frame to make it 12.5 inches but it will do for my bed quilt. I think it looks like a flower. The templates and pattern was $12.50. John Flynn 2003.

I have three baby quilt tops done...same story back and quilting needed.

and I just finished a top I started about five years ago !!! it got lost in the shuffle, and I just recently found it while re-arranging rooms. I was so excited to find it, I had actually forgotten all about it!! I will get some pictures soon and post. but now of course this will also need a backing and quilting...

and...I am still stitchin away on Momma's quilt, as a matter of fact I am off to do just that now... ;-}

I have so many ufo's, the aliens need their own room. And, all the hoopla about them being so gosh darn interesting is a bunch of nonsense. They don't do housework, wipe their feet or recycle their beer cans. Sooooooooo much has happened over these last months. My mother has died and spent a lot of time in Wa before her death.

I have changed jobs, TWICE!! I start the new job next Monday and we bought a house, we move in beginning this Friday. Our new job & home is in WA. So guess you can see my UFO's have multiplied!
