All of my other betas have bamboo plants in them and I was woundering if there is any other plants that would do good in a beta fish bowl? I have one lonely beta that doesnt have a plant at all.
I assume when you say "bowl" you mean one of the small unheated containers commonly sold as betta homes. I would encourage you to get a larger, heated tank for your betta. I found that moving our first betta from an unheated 1 gallon tank to a heated (80 F) 5 gallon made a huge difference in his behaviour (more active) and colour (much brighter).
My betta is thriving in a bowl (right now it's on the stove, by the pilot light), with a marimu ball in it. The marimu ball is a type of japanese algae that grows in a hollow round shape.
The betta bowl is on the stove because it keeps the temps are in the 70's, as opposed to the 50-60 degree range if I had left it in the window. When it gets warmer, the bowl will go back into the window.
I got the marimu ball from a site on e-bay. Very easy to grow, and the betta seems to like it, too.
The hard part about a betta bowl is keeping it warm- these guys like it warm; look where they come from.
yah i know my betas are in a bowl and then my daughter has one in a littlest pet shop tank think its about 2 gallons and then her other one is in a big tank with some other fish. both have heaters. eventually ill move mine to bigger tanks. ill have to check on that marimu ball. thanks for all the info :D.
I make these for folks as gifts and such and I always use peace lilies. When the roots start getting to "full" you can split the plant by gently prying it apart and either pot it or start another beta bowl.
hmmmm...I will have to check into that. I have a peace pilly but mine is the big version of it. I have seen the smaller ones with the smaller leaves. So, I will deff check into that. Thanks!
