I have just purchased a Chinese tree peony -- Yue Gong Zhu Guang. I would like to plant it in a container so that I can have it close on my deck and keep an eye on it while it is developing. Evenutally, I probably will want to plant it out in the ground, probably in one to two years. Any advice? Also, I live among voracious deer. Although I have been assured that peonies are not attractive to deer, I know that a vulnerable, expensive plant might present a tasting challenge. Any experience with deer and tree peonies? I live in Southern Oregon in zone 7/8.
