I just looked at tomato seeds in several stores, and as always I was disappointed by the lack of variety. Lots of Big Boy, Early Girl, Beefsteak, Roma II, etc. I have to say, though, that they did have Brandywine (didn't say which strain), Rutgers, and Big Beef (I coulda saved the mail-order postage on that one), so there was SOME variety. I wonder why the only gold/yellow they offer is still Jubilee - I got past that one a long time ago.

I'm planting both hybrids and OP's this year, and I bought a pack of Steak Sandwich Hybrid from Burpee. That's described as a large, pink, indeterminate 70-day tomato on a compact vine that's "tasty with a firm texture". 70 days sounds pretty early for a big tomato. I guess I'll have two plants of those in the garden.

Reviews of S.S.H. I found online were very mixed. Some people said the flavor was great with high production and it's the best tomato they've ever grown, and others said they wouldn't recommend it. Those who gave it a bad review sounded pretty amateurish - including one guy who said his plants wilted in the sun and perked up in the shade until they finally died (sounds like some deep watering was called for).

So - has anybody here grown Steak Sandwich Hybrid? What did you think of it?
