Is anyone using any of the stock sites, like E-Trade or Scottrade right now, or is the market too shaky for anyone to want to get their feet wet right now? I'm just buying a little here and there when I have the extra money to do so, and a real novice when it comes to stocks...just wondering if there is anyone else still with this type of investment?

I think as long as you're investing for the long haul and not trying to time the market for short-term profits then there's nothing wrong with putting some money in now--but you need to be the sort of person who can see your values drop in the short term and not panic and sell everything. If you take a long-term view of things, stock prices are lower now than they have been in a while so as long as you're investing smartly (not putting $$ into companies that are in industries that are really having trouble) then you may find 10 yrs from now that you did a really smart thing. But you need to be careful and only invest money that you're not going to need to live on for the next few years because in the short term there's no guarantee that you're going to make a profit.
