days ago, using some of your previous articles. This one just gets me some more details I needed, specifically when to set out and how they should be spaced -- both of which I've botched in the past!

The trays I bought for the transplant are 1.5 x 2 inch cells, 2.25 inch deep (48 to the flat). Too small?

I like slightly larger cells, but other people use the 48 cell trays and their plants do just fine... I'd say if you're starting peppers more like 8 weeks ahead than like 12 weeks, ahead, you'll definitely be fine with the smaller cells.

I have a friend who grows tomato seedlings in 48 or even 72 cell trays due to space issues on her light shelf (she plants out 300-500 tomatoes each year), and her plants grow like crazy for her. :-)

Thanks. I planted 10 weeks from target (last frost date 4/15 -- by your schedule I should plant 5/15), so they may get a little too root bound in those trays. They're cheap and I have a bunch of flower seeds to start, too, so I think I'll drop by Hummerts this afternoon and get some 36 cell trays.

4 weeks from last frost works for here... I'd go more by 2 weeks after your good time for setting out tomatoes.

Good luck!

I am giving it a go and trying some poblano peppers. We'll see...
